How do i print 1099s

You need to purchase the 1099 forms. You can't print them on plain white paper. After you print the A copy, just reprint it with the proper form in the printer.

You can get the forms from the IRS; QB offers an Alignment function.

How do i print 1099s

I paid for QB to process my 1099's.  My contractors do not have QB account so they can't log in to get their 1099 from the email they received.  I read the instructions about how they can get an intuit account with the w9 info but it looks too complicated for me to try to explain to them so i will just have them wait until they get the 1099 in the mail from QB.  However, I have this PDF with what looks like the 1099's for all my contractors.  Why can't I just print that and give it to them?  I don't understand this requirement for "special" forms.  Why can't I just print on a plain white piece of paper?  Does the government require a special type of paper?

How do i print 1099s

Hello there, @BTC1984.

I’m here to share some details on how printing of 1099 works in QuickBooks Desktop.

In filling your 1099 form manually, you can print it  as many as you can as long as you use the pre-printed 1099-MISC forms then mail it. This is in compliance with the IRS Publication 1179 Section 1.2.2. While for E-filed 1099 forms, you can print the copies on a plain paper.

Here’s how to print your 1099 form:

  1. Click Vendors >> choose Print/E-file 1099s.
  2. Select 1099 Wizard >> click Get Started.
  3. In the Select your 1099 vendors window, check off the vendors who:
    • Needs a corrected 1099.
    • Was missed in earlier 1099 printing.
  4. In the Verify your vendors’ information window, make sure the data is correct and click Continue.
  5. Check that payment accounts are mapped correctly and click Continue.
  6. Review payments, then Continue.
  7. Confirm the 1099 entries and select Continue.
  8. In the Choose a filing method, choose Print 1099s.
  9. Check the printer settings, >> select Print.
  10. On each copy of the printed form, write an X in the Corrected box at the top of the form.

If you need further help with the steps, I’d recommend reaching out to our Payroll Support Team. A specialist could further assist you via secured remote access session.

Here’s how to contact us:

  1. Go to: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
  2. Choose your QuickBooks Product.
  3. Select Payroll
  4. Choose your type of Payroll Subscription
  5. Hit Payroll
  6. Click on the View Contact Info button to see the support number.

Keep me posted on how things work on your end. I’m always here to help you print your 1099 forms. Have a great ahead!

How do i print 1099s

Hi @3039356,

For the method of distributing the 1099 copies to your contractors, you have the option to choose USPS Mail or Email Recipient. You can also click on the Download Multiple PDF option if you want to send the copies to your contractors yourself.

As for the address that will be used for the USPS Mail option, this depends on the address you entered for the contractor. The same goes for the email address that will be used for the Email Recipient option.

@Ryan_M

Is your answer for QB Desktop?  Looks like Online to me, but the OP is asking about desktop.

We have the same portal for QuickBooks Online and Desktop, brconsultingid2.

When the customer clicks the 1099 Wizard, they will be routed to go to 1099 E-File Service. They will proceed here, https://www.tax1099.com/Intuit. This is where all the 1099 e-filing is done.

If you open the article provided by RyanM above, it'll show you the QuickBooks products supported with the steps.

I'll be here if you have additional questions on the process.

No, this is not correct.  I just tried it in QuickBooks desktop 2017, 2018, and 2019 and this is not the case.  The 1099 wizard is local.  I have created many 1099's using QuickBooks and have never seen the screenshots in your post.

I suppose this might be different after a user signs up for the 1099 eFile service.  But that's a huge minority of users.

Some of this info is incorrect.  ONLY copy A needs to be on the purchased RED forms or the free ones you can order from the IRS.  Copies B for your independent contractors can be printed on plain paper.  So can copies 1 and 2 for the state.  This is per the IRS, you can see right on their website.

However, QuickBooks won't do that - it won't print a substitute 1099 form on plain paper.

Yes, but everyone here was saying that they can't be on plain paper.  Which is incorrect.  Sometimes its more difficult to get the printed forms to print beyond just the red copy in QB.  So its beneficial for people to know that they can print the other copies on regular paper.  Use this link...just type and print.

I got the free ones from the IRS - I tore off the perforated tab at the left side so that all 5 sheets were loose, loaded them in the printer and told it to print 5 copies. I use a laser printer and it will not make an impression on the carbon paper, so printing on each sheet was necessary. When I am ready to send them off, I'll just staple them.

I'm trying to print my 1099's to send to contractors, but quickbooks is printing out two contractors per sheet.....the form says not to cut or separate forms on this page, but I obviously can't send this to my individual contractors.  What do I do?

How do i print 1099s

Hello there, @rachelb13.

Let me provide some information about the right process for printing the 1099s.

Our Payroll Tax Compliance Team is currently working with the IRS for the forms to be available. That’s the reason why the 2018 data won't show in the QuickBooks 1099 Wizard window.

Once we have them handy, QuickBooks will automatically fill in the information for your 1099s. I assure you we take this matter with the utmost urgency, so you can file the forms on time.

To help you stay on top of the year-end’s filing of forms, I’m adding links that can assist in preparing them. The other one outlines the key dates and deadlines when to send tax returns:

Let me know if you need more assistance with this. Thanks!
