Need to get 940 and 941 filings from the period of time when I was on Assisted Payroll

I was on Assisted Payroll for about a year starting in early 2019. I've recently realized that I don't have any of the 941 or 940 filings that were done for me by Intuit during this time. I'd just started this business and didn't think about making sure I had copies of all of the paperwork that Intuit was doing on my behalf. I've since learned QB a lot better and switched to Enhanced Payroll. The problem is that I can't figure out how to get copies of the 940 and 941 filings that Intuit did while I was on Assisted. I've searched the internet, searched QB help, and both called and chatted with Intuit payroll support, both times for over two hours. The first support call ended with the agent telling me that she was literally looking at my filings on her screen but that she had no way to securely get them to me and therefore I was out of luck. The second chat ended with the agent saying that I needed to log in to the Assisted Payroll portal but that I couldn't do that because I wasn't an active Assisted Payroll subscriber and that he couldn't help me any further and to call a phone number for more assistance. Of course I called the phone number and got a recording saying that the number was no longer operational and to use F1 inside QB.

 

I've now spent over a day and two support engagements just trying to get the 940 and 941 forms that Intuit filed on my behalf so that I can satisfy good document retention practices. I know Intuit has them since both agents told me they could see them. I was paying for the Assisted Payroll service at the time the forms were generated and filed and Intuit doesn't seem to disagree that I have the right to have them. They just can't figure out how to get them to me. I even asked if they could just print and mail them to me. No dice.

 

I'm just really frustrated and surprised that Intuit can't:

a) supply me with tax forms that they filed on my behalf

b) stop giving out a support phone number that's been shut down for many months (a different agent gave me the same number months ago to call regarding a different issue and I got the same recording way back then so this is not a recent change)

c) give me any reasonable reason why they can't do item a.

Open your QuickBooks Desktop to connect with us.
 

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Tap Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then hit Continue.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Post a question and get an answer from expert and other customers.
    • Start messaging with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from an expert (availability may be limited).

Hi Deb,

 

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, I already took the steps you outlined above and they resulted in the first support engagement I had. This is the one where the agent told me that she was looking at the forms on her screen but couldn't give them to me be cause, as she said "agents don't have access to secure email to transfer these types of documents to you and there is no other way that QB permits these forms to be sent to a customer".

 

So, that method did me no good. Nor did chatting through the Intuit website which I believe is the same backend chat as I would reach if I followed your steps above and chose "chat".

 

I reached out here because I feel like I've already exhausted all other avenues of support now that QB has disabled the old support number and consolidated everything behind the support method that you've outlined.

So... that's it? Your gave me one suggestion and now that I've said I'd already tried it and it didn't work, that's it? No more help, I'm just SOL?

 

I've contacted support every way that I know how at this point and no one will help me. I'd understand if someone had said "no, that's policy, we can't give you those forms because yadda yadda reason". But everyone I've talked to seems to agree that I AM allowed to have these and that Intuit DOES have them but that no one knows how to get them from Intuit to me. The frustrating part is that both agents I've talked to and now the person who answered this post all seem to just throw their hands up once they have tried the easiest answers and those solutions don't work.

 

So is ANYONE willing to actually put some effort into helping here?

Once Intuit files the forms for you, all forms are available to view or print approximately 35 days after the end of the quarter. There copies are available in the Payroll Tax Center for 4 years after the filing period ends for current QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Assisted customers.

If a copy of a filed tax form isn't available in the Payroll Tax Center, you can ask for a copy for a fee by completing a request form and faxing it to the number shown on the form.

The second agent I spoke to already took me through the process of trying to access the Payroll Tax Center. He even reset my payroll PIN and did something else that he thought might give me temporary access, but neither of those things worked.

 

I really appreciate your help, though, and am very open to any other ideas you might have!

Going back and forth isn't easy, ellengross. 

 

I'm here to make sure you'll get the support you need  to get your 940 and 941 forms. 

 

Since you can longer access the Payroll Tax Center after switching from QuickBooks Desktop Assisted payroll to QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Enhance. I suggest contacting our Support Team to request copies of your tax forms.

Thanks for your reply. I'll step through it one by one:

 

1) Contacting Support Team - As I've said a couple of times, I've already done this twice for over two hours each time and both times the agent ended by saying that they could see the tax forms and that they would like to give them to me, but that they didn't have a way to do so. I'm not looking to spend another two hours on the phone to be told the same thing a third time. That's why I came here.

 

2) Filed return is not available in the Payroll Tax Center - this article starts out with the assumption that you have access to the Payroll Tax Center which I've already said I don't have.

 

3) Access payroll tax forms and tax payments. - this article discusses the normal process for filing and viewing these forms but gives no assistance in accessing a form that was previously filed under Assisted.

 

4) e-file 940, 941, 944 tax forms in QuickBooks Desktop. - this article just explains how to e-file a form and does not even mention accessing previously filed forms.

 

Do you have any other suggestions? Maybe there's a level 2 support that I could get in touch with somehow?

Thank you, Alcaeus! I was contacted yesterday by Rhonna from the QB Escalation Team. We're going to have a call this morning to hopefully get this thing solved. I really appreciate your help.
