Error code 9000 again when submitting payroll

Is anyone else having problems with the error code 9000 when attempting to submit payroll.  I have had it off and on now for about six months.  It resolves itself, and then appears again.  I was able to get a QB support person on the phone last time and they updated the payroll software several times, and then the file was able to be submitted.  I can't get through to support now.  I get a number to call, and then I get thrown into a perpetual loop.  The QB support has vanished compared to how helpful they used to be, and the availability of getting someone to assist.  I'm running out of time to submit.  Is there another payroll product available that actually has support staff?  Looking for recommendations.

Error code 9000 again when submitting payroll

Hello, vholloway.

I also don't want an issue to become recurring, and I expect the support people would be there every time I need help. I want to turn the tables around and help you resolve the error code 9000.

I checked our system and we don't have any reported issue about the error code 9000 when submitting payroll. The error is usually caused by an internet connection issue. This is why it resolves itself and reappears again soon after. There are other causes for this as well:

  • Invalid security certificate.
  • Sending in multi-user mode.
  • A network time-outs that prevents the program from accessing the server.
  • General Internet connection issues.
  • Internet security and personal firewall software settings.
  • Incorrect system date and time properties.

For this recent instance of the error code, have you tried updating the program and your payroll tax table? The updates help resolve error codes such as this. If you don't have the updates yet, please check these articles for the steps (payroll and program updates are separate):

After getting the updates, reboot your computer. Afterwards, submit your payroll again.

If it still persists, I recommend flushing your DNS (Domain Name System) cache. This might contain outdated data that prevents QuickBooks from accessing the internet properly. Here are the steps to do this:

  1. Click Start, then choose All Programs.
  2. Select Accessories, then click Run.
  3. In the run box, type CMD.
  4. In the Command Prompt window. type ipconfig /flushdns
  5. Press Enter.

After running and submitting your payroll, you can check out the articles in the Taxes topic if you need help managing your taxes and liabilities.

Currently, we're handling a large volume of contacts during this tax season. There will be delays when you reach out to our phone support.

I want to address other concerns you might have for QuickBooks Desktop or your payroll service. Please visit this thread again if you have more questions.

We have been told each time it is an Intuit issue and it won't happen again.  Well today trying to submit our payroll and I am on hold again for the same issue.

In addition we have issue trying to invite new employees to view their paychecks as of last weeks payroll.

Let's resolve the error you're encountering to submit your payroll smoothly, @bbtruck.

As mentioned by my colleague, that error 9000 is usually caused by an internet connection issue. That is why it resolves itself and reappears again sometimes. The following also causes this error:

  • Invalid security certificate.
  • Sending in multi-user mode.
  • A network time-out prevents QuickBooks Desktop from accessing the server.
  • General Internet connection issues.
  • Internet security and personal firewall software settings.
  • Incorrect system date and time properties.

You can resolve it by either rebooting your computer, checking your system time and date settings, or making sure to have the latest payroll tax table update

Here's the troubleshoot Payroll Service Server Error or Payroll Connection Error article for detailed guidance.

You can also refer to this article for more information on how to create paychecks to pay your employees.

Feel free to add a comment below if you have any other payroll concerns, I'm always here to help you. Wishing you the best!

All of those issues have been tested.

In fact each time we encountered the error and contact tech support, they acknowledged the issue was on QB's end and it wouldn't happen again.  Here we are 2 1/2 months later still encountering the issue with no resolve.  Each time requiring us to call into tech support and spend a minimum of an hour on the phone as they escalated to higher supper.  I am just thankful the Direct Deposit at least were transferred to be deposited to our employees accounts and it is just a matter of QB server syncing back to our file to update the paychecks as sent and upload the VMP.  Extremely frustrating when you are dealing with employees pay and livelihood.

Error code 9000 again when submitting payroll

Hello,

I have been receiving this error code off and on for the last two months.  I clicked on the help tab in Quickbooks and chose get a call, which I received right away.  The person I spoke to transferred me and the next person was able to resolve the problem.  It ended up being that my internet security software was blocking my transmission.  I hope your solution is as easy as this because with other representatives I have been on the phone for over an hour with no solution to the problem.

Error code 9000 again when submitting payroll

I was told today the issue has something to do with "other tax".  I found this item was created with the Covid pay.  Does anyone know how to resolve this issue.  I made the item inactive as the company I do the payroll for is not paying Covid pay anymore.  I will see next week if that helps.  Any other suggestions?

Error code 9000 again when submitting payroll

Since December 2020, when we upgraded to Enterprise 21.0, we have been receiving Error code 9000 when we submit our payroll data.  Since December 2020, each payroll we run (13 payroll in total) we have received this error code.  Every time we speak with a QB rep, we are told time and time again several different answers- nothing is consistent with their responses.  In that time, I have spoken to Priority Circle and 15 other QB reps, but to no avail there is never a permanent solution.  I am beyond frustrated with this issue.  I spend well over 2 hours on the phone each time this happens. It even got to a point that we had to redo an entire payroll over again as I was told "this would correct the problem."   We have had our IT company make changes to firewall settings, security settings, etc. We have gone through each possible solution as suggested by QB (even including all of the above mentioned solutions in the above threads).  We even reported this via the bug report under the help menu.  We are told that QB engineers know of the issue but that there are other projects ahead of this one.  Yesterday, I was told that the QB rep could no longer stay on the phone with me as she had to get to other customers.  We should be the priority at the moment.  We are getting to the point of switching vendors as we cannot seem to get answers or resolutions.   I am hoping this goes to the top of the chain and that management or engineers get this resolved.

Error code 9000 again when submitting payroll

Candace,

I appreciate the reply. As mentioned in my previous post, we have been in contact with Customer Support for the past 8 months on this issue.  The issue continues to occur each time we do payroll.  When we call Customer Support the rep mentions that their backends team has to make a change on their end.  Once the change has been completed- then the payroll goes through.  The entire process takes 1-2 hours for this to be done.  I do not have time every payroll to go back and forth trying to get the problem corrected.  We have been told several times that QB is aware of the issue- but that the issue is not a top priority to fix.  It is getting to the point that we would switch our payroll processing to another vendor.  We have been with QB for 17+ years and have never had these types of issues.  Can you please research a permanent solution to this issue?

Error code 9000 again when submitting payroll

Hi BuckServ88,

Putting myself in your situation, I would also look for a permanent solution than to call each time I process payroll, especially that this has been going on for a while now.

As much as I want to help, we're also relying on the solution from our engineers. All I can do is suggest the same thing; contact the team.

We're just around to help if you have any other questions. Take care!

Thank you for your posts BuckServ88.  We are now experiencing the same issue and beyond frustrated on what do do.  Like you, I have been on the phone with QB and our I.T. people for hours.  We are Gold Level Priority Circle, but that doesn't seem to mean anything!

Yep I'm having the same issue. I'm ready to give up and tell my employees that I'll just run payroll a day earlier and you can get your checks mailed the old fashioned way.  I don't have time to sit on the phone for hours with tech support....plus I can't get anyone. I thought maybe it was my firewall?  It just popped up a second time in 6 months. No warning!  I'm done!

I can see the urgency in running payroll and the convenience to have it done automatically. I have other troubleshooting steps to help you fix your payroll issue, ptramirez.

First, you'll have to make sure that QuickBooks is updated to the latest release to keep up with the latest payroll fixes. After that, get the latest tax table update. The payroll tax table provides up-to-date, accurate rates and calculations for federal and supported state taxes, payroll tax forms, and e-file and e-pay options. To download the latest tax table, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Go to Employees, then select Get Payroll Updates.
  • To know your tax table version:
    1. Check the number next to You are using tax table version:.
    2. To identify if it’s the correct version, see the latest payroll news and updates.
    3. To find more details on your tax table version, select Payroll Update Info.
  • To get the latest tax table:
    1. Select Download Entire Update.
    2. Select Update. An informational window appears when the download is complete.

Secondly, if you're still having the same issue, you can check your system time and date settings.  Then, update them.

After that, reboot your computer. Once done, try to submit payroll if it's successful.

However, if the same thing happens, I recommend reaching out to our support team so they can double-check your issue further. They also have the tools to pull up your account in a secure environment.

Also, our phone support team may be receiving a lot of calls at the time you made a call that's why it takes a while to be connected. But eventually, an agent will be assigned to assist you. But I appreciate your time and effort in waiting in line.

Additionally, QuickBooks provides a variety of reports that cater to your business and employees' information. You'll only have to customize them to show the data you need most. Learn from this article for your reference: Customize Payroll And Employee Reports

Please get back to us if you have further questions about payroll. I'll always be right here to help.
