Let's fix the error message you've encountered when opening QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) so you can use the program and get back to business in no time.

 

The error message 80029c4a occurs when QuickBooks components are blocked from loading essential files in your computer. When you see this error and can’t open QBDT, update the software to its latest release. This ensures you have the latest features and product improvements.

 

If the error continues, you need to check your antivirus software and the area of your program that lists blocked files (sometimes called your “quarantine”). Once you see any QuickBooks programs (like, AutoBackupExe.exe; Dbmlsync.exe; or DBManagerExe.exe, etc.) in the quarantine, give them permission to go through your firewall. Please note that most of these files are located in C:\Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks (year). Files with (x86) in the location, such as C:\Program Files (x86)\Intuit\QuickBooks 20XX, are 64-bit versions.

Hi Vicky, when I sign on to online it brings up my accounts. I pick the account I want and then it brings up another sign in from intuit, but were it has for me to put in my phone number, it has one of the emails associated with my account in that place and there is nothing it lets me do.

Close the company file in the other copy of QuickBooks. Then you can open it in this copy of QuickBooks.

If you're using QuickBooks Desktop and you're unable to open a company file while no other company files are opened, I'd recommend performing some of our recommended troubleshooting steps for these types of scenarios.

 

Initially, Intuit recommends making sure your books are up-to-date with the latest release.

 

Here's how:
 

  1. In your top menu bar, go to Help, Update QuickBooks Desktop, then click Update Now.
  2. Hit Get Updates.
  3. When the update finishes, close and reopen QuickBooks. Once you're asked to install your update, select Yes.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions when your installation's finished.

 

Next, you'll want to confirm the file you're trying to open is a company file (.QBW). Other types of files, such as backups (.QBB) and portable files (.QBM) can't be opened the same way.

 

If you're still unable to open it, you'll want to make sure your file isn't compressed or encrypted:
 

  1. Right-click the company file and choose Properties.
  2. Click Advanced.
  3. If your Compress or Encrypt options are turned on, untick their checkboxes to turn them off.
  4. Select OK.

 

In the event your file still won't open, you can move on to solution 2 in our Can't open your company file article.

 

If you're working with QuickBooks Online, I'd recommend troubleshooting your browser initially. In the event that doesn't solve it, you'll want to confirm you meet each of our system requirements for the product.

 

Regardless of which product you're using, if you've performed each of our troubleshooting processes for your product and the file still wont open, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

I can help you with resolving the error you're having when trying to create a back up data, @deejay49.

 

First, make sure to update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release to have the latest features and product improvements. Then, try to create a backup data. 

 

In case you're still having an error, try running the Rebuild and Verify Utility tool to fix possible data damage on your company file.

 

lease follow the steps below:

 

  1. Open your company file again.
  2. Go to the File menu, then select Utilities and choose Rebuild Data.
  3. Click OK in the QuickBooks Information window.
  4. Wait until the repair is done. Then, click OK.
  5. Then, go back to the File menu and select Utilities and choose Verify Data.
  6. Click OK if QuickBooks doesn't find any problems. Or Rebuild Now if it finds issues with your company file.

 

If you still get the same issue, let's try running the QuickBooks File Doctor to fix common issues. 

 

  1. Open your QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Select Company File Issues.
  3. Click Quick Fix my File.
  4. Choose OK when it completes and launch your QuickBooks.

I am trying to activate my subscription to QuickBooks self employed.  I have paid for the subscription through Apple but whenever I try to login it says "subscribe" as if I have no subscription.  I used to use QuickBooks and wonder if the old accounts are somehow causing this.

Hello, nisaak1. Yes, your old QuickBooks accounts may have caused your reactivation issue with QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE). With this, let's ensure you're using the right app or website while logging in so you can access your account accordingly.

 

From our description, the website or app you may be using to access your QBSE account is likely associated with other QuickBooks platforms. I'd recommend downloading the appropriate QBSE app in the Apple Store or logging into your account through the correct website. From there, input your correct login credentials to access your newly reactivated account.

 

On the other hand, since you're subscribed through Apple, your billing is handled by them, not directly through QBSE. With this, I'd encourage you to check your Apple billing history to help us make sure your subscription is activated properly. To verify my understanding, are you working with QuickBooks Online (QBO) or QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT)?
 

If you're using QBDT's Intuit Data Protect (IDP) feature to perform your backups, you can troubleshoot with the steps in our Unable to back up with IDP article.

We can perform some troubleshooting steps to ensure you can successfully backup your company file using Intuit Data Protect. Let's start by checking if QBDT file is open via network drive. Intuit Data Protect will not be able to backup the file if it is open.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Close the QuickBooks company file.
  2. Right-click the Intuit Data Protect icon in the system tray (next to the system clock), and choose Open Intuit Data Protect.
  3. Select Back up now.

 

If the same thing happens, verify if the BuEngHost.exe is running as the System user and not the local user. Here's how:

 

  1. Right-click on your Taskbar and select Start Task Manager.
  2. Locate the process IBuEngHost.exe and look at the user listed in the User Name column. You may need to select 'Show processes from all users' in order to see IbuEngHost.exeNote: If the users showing is anything other than System, IDP will not be able to back up opened files.
  3. To correct this, verify QBIDPService.exe is started and reboot your system.
  • To check if QBIDPService.exe is running open the Services Console from the Windows run line by typing in Services.msc and hitting Enter.
  • QBIDPService.exe

Let me share some insights as to why you cannot find your company file after signing up for QuickBooks Online from QuickBooks Desktop Mac.

 

To begin, you should log in to Quickbook's official website. Since you already have an existing account, you should be able to view your Company File using the same credentials in signing in to your QuickBooks Online from QuickBooks Desktop Mac:

 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Desktop file as the admin.
  2. Select FileExport, and then To QuickBooks Online.
  3. (You can also use the keyboard shortcut Shift + Command + D).
  4. Select Get Started.
  5. Select Export all your company file data or Export specific data.
  6. If you use inventory, you can choose whether you want to move inventory or not.
  7. If you already have a QuickBooks Online account, select Yes, sign me in, and enter the credentials.
  8. Select the QuickBooks Online company to move your data to, then select Continue.

 

You can only transfer QuickBooks Desktop for Mac files to the US version of QuickBooks Online. You'll need to condense your file with more than 350,000 targets.

 

After you move your data to QuickBooks Online, you'll receive an email confirmation once it's done. Confirmation can take up to 12 hours.
