QBO Payment Links Not Working (Advanced)

Wondering if anyone else is having this problem or has found a solution.

We switched from Desktop to QBO about 6 months ago and everything has been going great.

We wanted to add some features offered by QB Online Advanced so we decided to upgrade.  Since the upgrade, we have lost the ability to generate 'Payment Links'.  We used this feature successfully for months on lower versions, and it still works for other companies/files we manage on the lower versions.  But on the highest QB Online Advanced, the option to generate a custom 'Payment Link' does not appear on any screen or any menu?  and if we try to force load the page (app.qbo.intuit.com/app/paymentrequests) we get a 404 page not found error.

Called customer service and no solution.  I really want the features in the upgraded version, seems crazy i need to downgrade to get 'Payment Links' to work.

Anybody else run into this?

QBO Payment Links Not Working (Advanced)

I appreciate you for sharing the details of your concern as well as the error message you received on your end, @Longtimer556.

I checked here on my end and found no reports of a problem with the Payments Links in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Rest assured, I have some suggestions for how we can solve this problem.

The 404 error simply indicates that the web page you are attempting to access could not be reached or was not found on the server. To isolate this, I recommend accessing the payment link from your QBO account in an incognito or private window.

This allows us to determine whether the problem is due to browser caching. Too much data stored from the browser causes inconsistencies that affect your account's performance. Using a private window helps to verify the issue as this doesn't save any data.

To open a private window, you can refer to these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N for Google Chrome browser
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge browsers
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari browser

If you can access the Payments Links menu, I recommend clearing the cache in your default browser to refresh the system. Using other supported browsers also aids in narrowing down the problem.

Once you're ready, here's an article to help you match your online payments and invoices to avoid duplicate entries: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Do you require additional assistance with managing your invoices and online payments? Please do not hesitate to include them in your response. I'll be right there to help you whenever you need it!

Thank you for the response.

Tried Incognito, other computers, downloaded and tried Mozilla Firefox, all get the same error.  The 'Payment Links' Option is missing from the menu (see attached).

We have other company files we manage with lower QBO license types and it still works.  The two company files we upgraded to QBO ADVANCED immediately broke the Payment Links option.  The Intuit merchant is still connected, we can process 1 invoice payment at a time.  But we lost the ability to generate a custom payment link.  It was working just fine for several months before we upgrade to QBO ADVANCED, and it stopped working.  Called customer service and they said it has been an error since December???

QBO Payment Links Not Working (Advanced)

I am in Canada and we are running Quickbooks online Plus and have been having all of these same issues the last few months.  I have tried all of the fixes described here with no solution.  Is there anything being done?  is there really no problem that has been detected on Intuit's side with this?  It is getting very frustrating not being able to get paid by our clients easily.

We have had the exact same issue - upgraded to QB Online Advanced about 3 weeks ago and we can no longer create a 1 time payment link.  It is so frustrating.  Have called support a couple times and still not resolved.

QBO Payment Links Not Working (Advanced)

Well, today we got an answer.

It is a known issue - that Quickbooks does not plan to fix.

I had to downgrade from Advanced to Plus to get it back.

Hope this helps the others having the same problem.

QBO Payment Links Not Working (Advanced)

Let me chime in and share some insights with you.

You'll want to check the account of your sister company they've already set up or connected to QuickBooks Payments account. If not, don't worry, I'll show you how.

First, refund any outstanding transactions before connecting our accounts, as you will not be able to refund transactions created prior to the date you connect your payments account. You should also delete any recurring payments in Merchant Services. Before you begin, Sign in to Merchant Services and disable recurring payments.

Next, you can follow these steps to connect your payments account to QuickBooks Online:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as an admin.
  2. Go to Settings ⚙, then select Account and settings.
  3. Choose Payments.
  4. In the Existing account section, click Connect or Link Merchant Service.
  5. Choose the QuickBooks Payment account you want to connect to. Then click Connect.
  6. Review the account info and make sure it's accurate. If everything looks good, tick Connect.
  7. When the connection is finished, sign out and sign back into QuickBooks Online.

For detailed information and steps, refer to this article: Connect your QuickBooks Payments account to QuickBooks Online.

I'll be adding this article so you can read and learn how to personalize and add specific info to your sales forms in QBO: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
