I am trying to “Save File for Accountant” and I keep getting “Failed Verification.” Does anyone know the cause of this problem and how to fix it? It says to rebuild your company data in the Utilities Menu. Which I have done - it says the rebuild is completed. I try again and the verification still fails. I need to send my accountant the info. Should I ignore the failure?
Thanks for sharing the troubleshooting steps you've done, salgal.
Let's make sure to click on this link to update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. Then, log out from your QuickBooks company and log in as the Admin user. This might be the reason why you're getting this error message.
Once logged on, go back and save the file for your account. On the other hand, you can try the solutions from the articles below. Before doing so, please make sure to create a backup copy of your company file.

I've got the same situation that "salgal" reported. But please note, your solutions reference solutions for the Windows platform, where the original problem posted, and mine, are in the QB Desktop for Mac product. Please adjust your recommendations accordingly.
The problem with this process is that the "verify" step seems optional, if it's possible to go ahead and create the Accountant's copy without first passing verification. Is it optional? The items being reported in the log file for the Verify step are "duplicate name" (hundreds of these), and at least one duplicate transaction number. There is no remedy path given, not sure what to do about any of these "errors." I've been through some of this before, with a much earlier version of QB for Mac, seems like it was around 2007. Some things never change! But please let me know if there are Mac-based solutions here. Thanks.
There isn't an Accountant's Copy feature in QuickBooks for Mac, @kgardner.
Allow me to share some information so you can successfully send a copy to your accountant.
With the latest version of QuickBooks Mac, you can share data with your accountant or other Windows-based users.
QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2019 can exchange data with QuickBooks Pro, Premier, and Premier Accountant Edition 2019 for Windows (U.S. versions between Mac and Windows).
Meaning, you’ll want to convert your file to QuickBooks for Windows to get this done. Before doing so, make sure to update QB Mac to the latest release. Here’s how:
To prepare your file, you can read and follow the instructions listed on these articles:
QuickBooks will ask you to verify the data if recommend. Otherwise, skip it. Once the verification isn’t successful, QuickBooks recommends rebuilding your company file to ensure that there are no data issues.
Let me know if you need further assistance while converting your file. I’m here to help anytime.
Please see screen shot attached for "Save file for accountant" feature, which indicates that the file can be opened by Quickbooks for Windows.
I have used this procedure previously, as well as "Export... To Quickbooks for Windows." Both procedures invoked the "Verify step" (optionally), and both produce what appears to be the same QBB file as output. The files are the same type (the icon says "WIN.QBB") and size.
The "verify" step fails in both scenarios, and as the original question, and mine, was what to do about this, I consider that question still unanswered.
Thanks.
I appreciate you performing the necessary steps to resolve the failed verification in QuickBooks, @kgardner.
Let’s uninstall and reinstall your QuickBooks software to start in a clean slate. Here's how:
Once completed, let's remove the QuickBooks PLIST files to revert all preferences back to its default settings. Here’s how:

Now, let's restart your Macbook to ensure that all components will be updated. Lastly, you can reinstall and set up QuickBooks on your device. You'll find more information about the process in this article: Reinstall QuickBooks for Mac using a clean install.
Keep me posted if you have other questions managing your QuickBooks data. I'm always here to help.
No, Quickbooks 2020 was just installed on this computer on Saturday, it's a new computer and new installation. I'm not going to go through the questionable exercise of reinstalling.
The question remains, from the very beginning, which has still not been answered: is it even a problem that it doesn't pass the "verify" step, and if so, how to fix it. If "Rebuild Data" can't fix it, and if there are utilities that go beyond this on the Windows side, what tools are available for Mac users?
There seems to be a lot of misinformation or unclear information here, and the actual question being asked seems to be lost in the shuffle.
Thank you.
Thank you for getting back to us here on the Community page, @kgardner.
Allow me to share additional information about saving a file for an accountant in QuickBooks.
As mentioned by MadelynC above, there isn't an Accountant's Copy feature available yet with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac. This could the reason why you're getting this error message. For now, you can talk with your accountant for more options. Or, you can export the file to QBDT for Windows and send your accountant the Window format QBB file so your accountant can wok with it, then return the file to you when done. This is called round-tripping.
For your guide and more details about this, check out the details from this link: Convert a QuickBooks for Mac file to QuickBooks for Windows.

I really don’t understand what’s going on here. I already submitted a screen shot showing the Accountants copy option for the Mac version. I’m going to withdraw from this endless loop of misinformation if someone can’t actually look at what’s been submitted, and answer the original question, which still remains unanswered. No one, for example, has even asked what kinds of errors are being flagged in the verify log. If they were to do so, they would see that these errors are coming from the way QB for Mac "does things" and the interface between the two platforms has never been smooth or fully functioning.
Hello there, @kgardner.
I appreciate your time and effort in performing the troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue. Allow me to provide additional information about saving a file for an accountant.
The Save file for Accountant option that you see on your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac is only for the QBB file. You can only open this if you're using the QuickBooks Windows version.
In the meantime, the verification error can be fixed by verifying and rebuilding the company file. This will scan the program for possible damage date file errors and help fix them. I'll show you how to do that.
Before doing the method in rebuilding your data, you have to save your current file in your Local Disk Drive.
If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Phone Support Team. They have the tools to perform a screen share and dig in further for the possible solutions to this issue.

I completely agree with you, I have Quickbook desktop for Mac ver 2019 and in the dropdown under "File" there is a tab for "Save File For Accountant". I've used this function for probably 4 years through multiple versions of the Mac version of Quickbooks. I also continually have the problem with the verification of my data but just bypass that step every time and just save the file. After my accountant corrects any issues he may find with my accounting he sends me back the revised file and I just use that new file. I wish the tech support personal would stop giving you the runaround and just answer the question or just admit they have a problem with the verification process and say they are working on it.

I'm having the same problem. I tried to look at the logs to fix the problem myself but it's like reading a foreign language. It doesn't really matter if the verification fails you can still proceed with saving the file for your accountant without any problems. At least that's what I've found. Good luck!
