Sales by customer type report

I have tried to customize a sales report to show our customer types along with the name of the customer and the sales, however when I run the report, the customer type is missing from the list.

"customize a sales report"

Which specific report?

"the customer type is missing from the list."

You filter On customer type; you don't actually see it. You would retitle the report and then Memorize it as a Memorized Report.

You can see this in my attachments.

Hello there, @careya2.

We can pull up the Sales by Customer Summary report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). It will include all the customer types. We'll have to customize the data and filter it.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Hover over Sales, and then choose Sales by Customer Summary.
  3. Click the Customize Report button.
  4. Select the Filters tab.
  5. Click Customer Type under Filter.
  6. Choose the type you want to show in the data from the drop-down arrow.
  7. Hit OK.

I'll be adding a few related articles below to help you understand reports in QuickBooks and how to customize them:

Keep me posted if you have follow-up questions about the reports in QuickBooks. I'll be right here to provide the information you need. Have a great day.

Sales by customer type report

Hi,

I do not need a filter.  I need a Sales By Customer Type Report - Summary.  Exactly like the Sales by Rep - Summary Report.  (I do not want to see the individual customers, only the Customer Types).   I sure wish someone could help - seems basic.  I spoke to HELP on Intuit and they said this Summary type report cannot be done?  Uggh.

Hi there, careya2.

I can see that a similar question was asked in a separate thread. Let me share this link with you so you can read the response and follow the steps as well: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/account-management/hello-i-am-trying-to-create-a-s....

That's a useless link. It goes to a QuickBooks Online question. This is a QuickBooks Desktop question.  So, the answer there doesn't apply in the least to the OP's question.

Maybe help the customer instead of sending them down a rat-hole?  You know, give them instructions to do what they asked for?

@careya2  RE: I do not need a filter. I need a Sales By Customer Type Report - Summary. Exactly like the Sales by Rep - Summary Report. (I do not want to see the individual customers, only the Customer Types).

Here's how to create the report:

- Start with a custom summary report. Find it at Reports | Custom Reports ...

- On the Display tab of the Modify Report window, for the rows and columns, select Display columns by "Total Only" and Display rows by "Customer Type".

- On the Filters tab, delete the default All income/expense accounts filter.

- On the Filters tab, add  the Items filter and pick "All Sales Items" from the list.

- On the header/footer tab, rename the report as desired.

It'll look something like this when you run it:

We're glad to see you visiting us here today. I've got steps to help you run the Sales by Rep report in QuickBooks Desktop.

When running Sales by Rep reports, you'll need to ensure you've created and assigned Sales Reps to your transactions. Doing so will allow them to show on the report you want to review. To guide you through these steps, here's how you can create a Sales Rep:

  1. In your QBDT account, go to Lists and select Customer & Vendor Profile Lists. Then, click Sales Rep Lists.
  2. Select New from the Sales Rep dropdown at the bottom.
  3. Enter its details and click OK.

To assign these Reps to your transactions:

  1. Open an existing invoice transaction and choose a specific Sales Rep from the Rep dropdown.
  2. Enter the necessary information, and click Save & Close.

Then, to guide you in running the Sales by Rep report, you can refer to the steps below.

  1. Go to Reports from the menu bar, and select Sales.
  2. Select the Sales by Rep Detail report.
  3. Click Customize Report.
  4. Under the Display tab, enter Rep in the columns section.
  5. Under the Filters tab, enter Rep in the Choose Filter section.
  6. Once done, click OK.

Moreover, you can further add specific data to your reports by customizing them.

Keep us posted in this forum if you have additional questions about running reports. We'll be around to help you. Have a good one!

Sales by customer type report

Hi dquinn121, I appreciate you for joining this thread and letting me know that you also want to run this kind of report. I'll walk you through generating the report with the information you need.

Before you pull up the Sales by Rep Detail report, make sure that you assigned a sales representative in your transaction. This way, the rep will populate in the report. Please take a look at  the sample screenshot below for additional reference.

If the Rep field is not showing, we need to modify the template to add it. Here's how you could do it:

  1. Open the invoice and click Manage Templates.
  2. Select the template you want to use.
  3. Pick the Additional Customization button.
  4. Tick the Rep boxes.
  5. Click OK to reflect the changes.

Once done, you're now ready get the information using the said report.

  1. Go to the Reports menu> Sales> Sales by Rep Detail.
  2. Click the Customize Report button.
  3. In the Display tab, tick Rep and other information you need.
  4. In the Filters tab, search for Rep.
  5. Hit OK.

On the other hand, if you're trying to get sales by customer type report, you can use the Sales by Customer Detail report. Then, add Type in the Display tab and Customer Type in the Filter tab.

To learn more about personalizing reports, here's an article for you: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please visit again if you have more concerns about running reports in QuickBooks Desktop. I'm happy to help. Take care and have a good one.
