Install/Uninstall errors

Hello,

One of the people I am supporting has been having some major issues with Quickbooks; it won't uninstall or re-install, the HUB doesn't detect any issues, and the program crashes immediately when it tries to open.  He's running Quickbooks Desktop 2019 I believe.

I worked on it for a while and got it down to an install error that it's having an issue placing an icon on the Public desktop, not even sure why it's trying to do that, and was wondering if anyone had seen this:

INSTALLMESSAGE_ERROR Message: Error 1336.There was an error creating a temporary file that is needed to complete

this installation. Folder: C:\Users\Public\Desktop\. System error code: 2INSTALLMESSAGE_ERROR Message: Error 1712.
One or more of the files required to restore your computer to its previous state could not be found.  Restoration
will not be possible.ERROR Installing C:\Users\CHRISZ~1\AppData\Local\Temp\Pro_us29r7\qbooks\quickbooks.msiMSI
returned 1603: Fatal error during installation.

Thanks,
Solved

Good job for doing the steps my colleague recommended, LTenhet. One more step to try to fix your issue.

Although, if it didn't make any difference, I'd suggest reaching out to our customer care support. This way, an agent will help you uninstall/reinstall the program without any issues. Here's how:

  1. Go to Help inside QuickBooks.
  2. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Enter "Install/Uninstall errors" in the description field, then click Continue.
  5. Select either Message an Agent or Talk to a Specialist

Install/Uninstall errors

Hi LTenhet,

Let's do additional steps to fix the error, so you can complete installing your client's QuickBooks.

Aside from checking the QuickBooks Tools Hub, you can also do the Quick Fix. Then, you can try installing QuickBooks after. Please follow the rest of the steps in this article: Error 1712 when installing QuickBooks for Desktop.

If the solutions in the article above won't work, you can repair or reinstall Microsoft .NET Framework and Microsoft MSXML. These components are necessary then installing QuickBooks and cause errors if damaged. Please follow Step 4, and then Solution 5 (if still not fixed) in this article: Fix QuickBooks Desktop install errors.

Please let us know how the steps in the articles work for you.

I have done the Quick fix with the same errors, nothing on the Tool Hub has fixed the issue.  I did re-install .net framework, but I'll try the MSXML.

Install/Uninstall errors

I just installed QB 2020 less than a month ago. I keep getting the message there is a critical update to be made. I am instructed to turn QB off then restart. But it is not resolved. Now, I am supposed to do a Payroll Update and it will not finish it. Should I just uninstall and re-install?

I can help you sort this out, @PDBK.

Let's update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release so you won't be prompted with a message about critical updates needed to be installed.

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Choose Update QuickBooks.
  3. Select the Update Now tab.
  4. Click the Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.
  5. Once ready, click Get Updates to start the download.
  6. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  7. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

You can read through this article to learn more about how you can update and install the latest release: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

I'm just around if you need further help on how to update and fix errors while working in QuickBooks. I'm always around if you need any help.
