2022 1099 forms

I just received this email (below) from QuickBooks. It blames 3rd party forms for the problem. I use, forms ordered from the IRS, which is the 1st party & the offical forms. For QuickBooks to fail to provide the printing capablity on the offical forms is their failure not anyone else. Therefore QuickBooks compatilbe forms should have matched with offical IRS forms. This problem should be shown to the CEO of Intuit for him to see the lack of support and incompetence of the staff members/managers that let this happen. To make this worst QuickBooks apparently didn't know they had a problem, till they were questioned about it (so much for pre-testing). These correct/offical forms have been available from the IRS months prior but the problem became a end of year crisis. They seemed to have sat on the problem & still have no fix, but cast blame on someone/something esle. Taking blame for their error would mean that staff members/managers would have to answer to customers and their bosses.

Dear Employer,
QuickBooks Desktop customers using third party forms when printing 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC Forms from QuickBooks may notice an issue with the "For calendar year" box. The box shows 202022 because 20__ is pre-printed on the form.
What do I need to know?
Our products are designed to print on Intuit forms (they are guaranteed to be QuickBooks compatible). Forms from third parties may or may not be compatible.
If your 1099 form stock shows 20__ in the "For calendar year" box, you aren't using QuickBooks-compatible forms. While you don't have to use QuickBooks forms, the year box may print as 202022.
Will my 1099 forms still be processed accurately by the IRS?
The printed text is in black ink on the red form stock. The 1099 processing systems don't read the red text. The IRS confirmed that forms with the following date formats will still be accepted: 22, 2022, or 202022. You can print your 1099s on Intuit stock or from a third party.
This email is to inform you that although the 202022 on the 1099's may be alarming, the IRS will still process the forms accurately. For more information on 1099 forms, please visit our Print 1099 and 1096 forms article.
We hope this email clears up any confusion surrounding the "For Calendar Year" displayed on third party forms.
Sincerely,

The QuickBooks Team

Thank you for joining the thread, @Amisha2022.

I'll share some information about printing 1099-NEC forms in QuickBooks Desktop.

The reason why the For calendar year field showing blank is that the form you're using isn't QuickBooks-compatible. You can print your 1099s on Intuit stock or from a third party. However, it'll print as 202022 since you don't use QuickBooks-compatible forms.

You can check out this article to learn more on how to print 1099s in QuickBooks Desktop: Print your 1099 and 1096 forms.

Try updating your Quickbooks -- Help>Update Quickbooks Desktop>Update Now     Maybe this will help  I just printed mine and it printed 2022 in that box.   This is a huge fail on QB/Intuit's part.   The answer given from QB about a third party form doesn't make any sense for your issue, it's just their pat answer because everyone is having such trouble with 1099's this year - IMO.   It either prints the year or doesn't -- it shouldn't matter what kind of form you are printing on ..... Hope this helps

I submitted 1099s FY2022 two days ago. At Taxes-->1099 filings-->View 1099s, the pdf only contains Copy A, B, and C. Where are copies 1 (State) and 2? Where can I download them from? Please confirm. I need to file 1099 Copy 1 with my state. Contacted your help line multiple times with no luck. Please review and reply.

Hello there, @user65235.

I've come to share some insights about creating and filing state 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Our 1099 e-file service in QBDT can help you file 1099s separately with your state. However, please note that this service has an additional fee.

Since you've already submitted your federal 1099s, you'll have to go through the creating process again (make sure to enter the information under the appropriate state boxes) so you can download the form (Copy 1) you need. Please see this article for the step-by-step guide: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Desktop.

Once you've submitted your 1099s to the state, go back to your account to check their status. Then, if you wish to view, print, email, or mail your forms, you can check out this article for the complete guide: Where can I See My Submitted Forms?.

Also, you may want to check out this article as your reference to answer the most commonly asked questions about 1099 forms and how you can prepare for the tax season in QBDT: Get answers to your 1099 questions.

If you have other Form 1099 concerns or questions about managing vendor transactions in QBDT, I'm always ready to help. Take care, and have a great day, @user65235.

Thank you for getting back to us and providing us with more details, @user65235

I can share some information with state 1099 e-filing.

Currently, filing with your state isn't supported in QuickBooks Online and Contractor Payments. You can check out the following article to know  if your state requires1099-NEC and 1099-MISC: File your state 1099 forms. It'll also provide you with further guidance on how to file 1099s in your state manually.

Refer to this article for more information about how you can automate your taxes in QuickBooks Online: Manage automatic tax payments and form filings. It'll show you how Intuit file and process your tax payments for you.

Let me know if you have other concerns about e-fling 1099s in QuickBooks or inquiries. I'm just around to help. Take care always!

I know Quickbooks Online (QBO) does not file with my state. For past 4 years, I have filed with my state manually. Each year, after E-filing my 1099s in QBO, I downloaded 1099 "Copy 1". Where can I download 1099 "Copy 1 and Copy 2" for this year (FY2022)?

Hi there, @Amisha2022. I want to ensure you'll be able to print 1099 correctly in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Let me share insights about printing 1099 in QBDT. The following date format 22, 2022, or 202022 is approved by the IRS. They will accept forms with a 4-digit date. In the form, it may look like a 6-digit number but, all red text is invisible to the IRS scanning machines that process these forms so it will only see 2022 printed. That said, this is working as designed. The 1099 processing systems will not read the red text. The printed text is in black ink on red form stock. You can also print your 1099s on Intuit stock or from a third party. For reference, please read this article: Print 1099 and 1096 forms.

If you don't want to print the forms this way, you can either manually fill out the forms, e-file, or get the 1099s provided by Intuit that were optimized for QuickBooks.

Tracking your submitted form is a breeze. To do so, refer to the steps in this article: Where Can I See My Submitted Forms?

If you have any other concerns about printing the 1099 in QBDT, please don't hesitate to post again here. I'm just around the corner to help. Have a good one.

Why do you keep telling us that this date issue is acceptable with the IRS when many people including myself have said that we did call and was told the IRS will only accept a 2 digit year?  I'd like to see something in writing from the IRS before I send out one!  Intuit's forms don't have a state copy (which I found out the hard way after wasting a lot of money on your overpriced forms).  Fill it out manually?  Why have an accounting software?  Is anyone from Intuit able to tell us if engineering is intending on changing the format before it's too late or are you leaving everyone high and dry?

I've filed my 1099's through QB online for the last few years without any issues.  For 2022 however, I'm confused about the options.  I don't want to print my own since I don't have a printer.  Also, I hadn't in the past.  I want to file the 1099's with the IRS and have them also mailed to the recipient. My question is which option do I choose? E-file?  Will I also get a copy?

Thanks.

Thank you for posting here in the Community, @Susan CRA.

If you use our e-file service, the 1099 forms will be mailed to your contractors to the addresses indicated in the contractor's profile by January 31, 2022.

It's time to e-file once you've created your 1099s and ensured that all of the information is accurate.

Yes, you can choose the E-File option and follow the on-screen steps to complete your 1099 e-file.  If prompted, enter your billing info. You'll also be able to review each contractor's 1099.

Copy A of the Form 1099 on paper is for your records. This form should not be printed or sent to the IRS by mail.

Then, you can check the status of E-filing.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes then 1099 filings.
  2. View the E-Filing status either Not Submitted, Submitted or Received by IRS.
  3. Select View 1099 to view a PDF copy

You can also check this article as your reference of the complete process of E-Filing: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Online.

For your future reference, you can check this article if you need to correct or change 1099s: Correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks.

If you have any other follow-up questions about your e-filed 1099s, let me know by adding a comment below. I'm always here to help. Have a good one!

Hi there,

I'm hoping someone can help me out with a problem I have with 1099's. I electronically filed everyone as 1099-NEC but then realized that one of our contractors should actually have been 1099-MISC as we pay her rent. How do I make an amendment to her 1099 to switch it from NEC to MISC? TIA!

Thanks for joining this thread, @Shara.

Let me share some insights about correcting a filed 1099-NEC form in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

You will need to work directly with the IRS to make a manual amendment to your 1099 forms. Feel free to use these IRS instructions to do so.

For more information about making corrections to your 1099 form, see this article: Correct or change 1099s in the QuickBooks.

Additionally, I've included a couple of helpful articles with more info about 1099s:

@user65235  have you figured out how to get Copy 1 and 2 from anywhere?  I spent at least an hour on the phone with Intuit and got nowhere.  Now I have no idea how to get the state forms.  I thought about using wagefiling.com but the IRS forms are already filed.  Not sure I can file again using wagefiling.com just to get the state forms.   Have you come up with anything?

Did you get any answers? I've been asked by QBO support what I mean by ''copy''. I've been bounced from messenger to support, and none seems to know anything. The best thing ask your accountant because you don't want to double file with the IRS.
