Join nowI use Desktop Pro. I manually uploaded transactions from my bank. Quickbooks made me create a login & password after adding lighting bolt to that account. I am not having any auto logins and did not provide any routing information or account numbers. Quickbooks does not need to protect me from myself, there is nothing there for anyone to steal to get my identity.
After I closed out, I can no longer get back into my file. I get logged in and it puts up a screen asking me to log in again to access on-line Payroll etc. I can't say I am the Admin, I can't pick that I am not the admin, I can't Cancel or Continue. There is no way to close the box. The only thing I can do is kill Quickbooks from the task manager.
I use desktop because I don't want internet. I won't be Ordering checks, using help, applying for a loan or any of those other buttons.
How can I get past this screen to get back into my file?
It's nice to have you here, Gromito.
Let me share with you some information with logging into your QuickBooks Desktop. Passwords are required for security and protection of your company files. For you to be able to get back into your files, you can reset the password. You just have to click on I forgot my password. Please follow the steps below on how to reset your password:
To reset your Admin password:
To reset a user password:
You can refer to this article for more detailed information: Reset your password for QuickBooks Desktop.
If you have any other questions with resetting the password in QuickBooks, just click the Reply button. I'll be sure to assist you further.
I know my password. I am on a desktop machine, they don't need to protect me.
I get past the first log in:
Then I get this screen which I cannot get past. Picking a radio button does not highlight the Continue or Cancel and I can't close it. There is no X to close that window and I can't get out of Quickbooks by clicking any of the other X. I have to kill the program with the taskmanager.
I know my password (that it only made me create once I manually uploaded the transaction file). I get past the first screen to this one which I cannot get past. Picking a radio button does not highlight Continue or Cancel. The only way out is to use the Task Manager to kill the program.
Thanks for the screenshots, @Gromito.
The first sign-in is for your Company File and the second sign-in is for your Intuit account. To get past this, you'll need to choose the top bubble "I'm the admin, and I'm the primary person..." and sign in. If you don't know your credentials for your Intuit account, then you can reach out to our Desktop Support. Rest assured, they have the tools to get you back into your account and get past the second sign in. Here's how to get in touch:
You'll hear from an agent shortly! If you can't get help through in-product, you can use this link instead: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/en_US/contact.
Let me know how this goes for you. I'll be here if you have additional questions or concerns. Have a beautiful day.
I am the Admin (the only user) I know the password, I still don't get the Continue button. I don't want to connect to my Intuit account, why do I need it? I purchased the DESKTOP version as I don't have good internet. How do I tell it I DO NOT want any of the additional services and DO NOT want to connect to the internet?
Hello again, Gromito. Thanks for keeping us updated.
Since you're entering bank data, QuickBooks requires a password to protect your account. You'll have the option to remove the admin password and just enter the admin credentials without it. You just need to create a new user with a password.
Here's how:

I can't click the company button without getting past the second screen. I guess I start up a hot spot to get back into my file.
Once I do this, the second user won't require the second login?
Thank you for getting back here, @Gromito.
You need to log in to your Intuit account to get past the second screen. You can reach out to our phone support team to know your credentials for your Intuit account.
Here's how:

Again, I know my credentials, I do NOT have internet access so it hangs and sits there. There is no way to get past that window. I have the DESKTOP version because I did not want, need or ever intend to use connected services. I manually downloaded a banking file, manually moved it to the desktop version and uploaded it. It has been downhill from there.
I can set up a hot spot to potentially get past this screen but if I have to do it each time I go into my file it makes the DESKTOP version next to useless for me.
What I am asking is how do I convince the DESKTOP version that I won't be connecting to the internet? I can live without the help features, I won't be buying payroll, labor law posters, checks, applying for a loan, etc. etc. etc. I will not be getting any of the add-on features.
Allow me to chime in for a moment, @Gromito.
I can get it sorted out and get you back to running your business. You can configure the internet connection setup within QuickBooks to access the program in offline mode.
After following the steps above, please try accessing your company file again. In case the issue persists, It would be best to proceed with contacting our QuickBooks Support Team.
One of them will need to take over and perform additional troubleshooting on your behalf. Here's how you can reach them:
Meanwhile, I've attached an article you can use for more insights about QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation, as well as the list of supported products for your reference:

This looked real promising but the same thing happens. When I go back up to the Internet Connection menu, it had switched back to "Use my Internet Connection" and logging back into my file gets me back to the second screen that can't be bypassed.
So, I guess the end of the story is that the HOURS of work I did to categorize all my 2019 transactions to get a snapshot of my life is no USELESS since I can't get back into my file. All my transactions that I typed in manually before that time are also lost. I guess it is my own fault for closing out my file.
So rather than having a useful DESKTOP program to manage my finances, I am back to using Excel.
Hi @Gromito,
QuickBooks desktop works without an internet connection. Since you've connected your bank account online, you'll have to disconnect it. Let me walk you through how.
After that, try logging back using your second account and check if you're still getting the Intuit account page. Please contact our Technical Support if you're still experiencing the same result. This way, we can check your file and investigate further.
I'll share with you this handy article for your reference: Verify and Troubleshoot QuickBooks Desktop and Internet Explorer settings.

This also sounds promising if there was any way to get in to allow me to do it. I log in as the Admin (the only account) but it still takes me to the second login screen for "Inuit account" . If I could get past that, I could deactivate the lightning bolt.
I never connected the bank account on-line. I did not enter the web site, routing number or personal account number or password. I manually uploaded a file I downloaded on a different machine.
OK, I set up a hot spot and logged in to my Intuit Account (the only way to get past that second screen). I got rid of the lightning bolts and now it does not ask for the second login. Why does manually uploading a file make it default to connected?
Still seems like it should never have asked me in the first place but at least I am back into my file.
Looks like no one wants to solve your problem. I have the same problem and I have called before. It is a few keys to push in order to close the account page and allow you to use quickbooks ; however, I do not remember the keys.
I appreciate you joining the thread, Ben. I'll share information that could help you.
As my colleague stated in the thread, the first sign-in page is for the company file, and the second is for Intuit Account. One must choose the "I'm the admin, and I'm the primary person..." and sign in to get through the next one.
