I am extremely angry with Intuit right now. I have been using QB for 17 years and now it looks like I will have to abandon it! My latest version is 2019 and it runs fine, but it will no longer support payroll unless you upgrade. So, I dutifully upgraded to their subscription model, which advertises that it comes with unlimited support by the way.
The software will NOT launch. No error messages it just starts buffering as if is going to start and then doesn't. Nothing I have or they have tried is working. The last tech support person just gave up! Here is what I have done to date...
1. Downloaded the Tool Hub and run all the various applications there. Nothing
2. Turned off my windows firewall and tried launching it. Nothing
3. Launch it as an admin. Nothing
4. Hold the CTRL key and launch it. Nothing
5. Completely uninstall it and reinstall it. Nothing
It tries to start and buffers and then just ends without starting. I have tried every single solution I can find online. I have spent hours on the phone with their reps and they can't solve it and just give up!
I am not sure what I am supposed to do here. It is their software. I am being forced to upgrade because payroll will no longer run on my version in about a month and version 2022 won't work at all!
Am I supposed to find a brand new accounting software?

If you are using QBD Enterprise, you may have a few options to explore. But if you are using using Pro/Premier, I couldn't recommend anything yet.
Back to your existing problem:
1. Which Windows OS do you run? Which version?
2. Have you tried to install the trial version for QBD 2022 Enterprise?
3. Is your QBD 2019 still working normally?
I am running Windows 10 Version: 21H2. It is QB Desktop Pro 2022 that I am trying to set up. Yes, my 2019 version still works fine. I have not tried to install Enterprise, trial, or otherwise.
As a test, I decided to install the 2022 Desktop on my laptop, which also runs Windows 10, but does not have any other version of QB on there. It works on there. Both systems are pretty close to each other in configuration other than my desktop having QB 2019 on it. I don't want it on the laptop because it is slow and I don't work on there daily. I only use it for travel only.
So, now I am wondering if something with version 2019 is causing the conflict, but the problem is if I remove it as a test and that isn't the problem I am totally screwed because I can't put it back on. Intuit removed the 2019 download from my account so I have no way of putting it back if my test doesn't work. I would be without any working QB at that point and that is just too high of a risk for a test.
If there were a way to get my 2019 download back I could try and put that on the laptop as well and see if that stops 2022 from working, but I don't know how to get my 2019 install file back in my account.
Do you have the same exact Windows OS on your laptop? Don't remove QBD 2019 on your desktop and you should be able to run both versions at the same time. As I mentioned earlier, consider to install the trial version for QBD 2022 Enterprise to make sure on your desktop machine.
Thanks for coming back, webgold.

Yes, I double-checked yesterday and both systems are running Windows 10 Pro with the exact same version. I am beginning to suspect the issue is that I have both versions (2019 & 2022) trying to run on the same system. I think what I need to try and do is completely strip both versions plus all company files and registry entries off my desktop and try and put just 2022 on and see what happens. That would be the closest configuration to my laptop where I was able to successfully install it.
I will need to get a copy of 2019 first and put that on my laptop as a backup in case this doesn't work. That way I have a running copy of at least what I have now running in case I need to get stuff done and can't get 2022 running.
I purchased 2019 directly from Intuit. It used to be in my portal when I logged in, but yesterday when I tried to upgrade the tech made a mistake and tried to upgrade my existing license of 2019 instead of giving me a new 2022 version. Once she did that it wiped out my 2019 download and license. It now shows it is a version of 2022 with a new license, but doesn't work. I can't download it and I am thinking the license number is different.
If you guys (Intuit) can restore my 2019 download and license in my account where I can download it again I can try my experiment and see if it works.
Login to your CAMPS and you will find your license code and the link to download the installer file for QBD 2019.
@Fiat Lux - ASIA, No, it is gone now. Yesterday an Intuit employee made a mistake trying to process my upgrade and tried to upgrade my 2019 license instead of giving me a new 2022 Pro license. When they did that it wiped out both my download and license. My account now shows 2 versions of 2022. One of those used to be my 2019 download and license, which no longer work and one is the new correct version of 2022 Pro which I can install, but can't get running on my deskop.
Hey there, webgold.
Running the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic tool is a good start when it comes to fixing program-related issues.
Here's how:

Let me know if you have other questions about this topic or if you ran into a different situation below adding a reply below so I can look further into this. Have a lovely week.
You said your QBD 2019 is still running on your desktop, correct? Open your file and hit f2 key or ctrl+1. You will find your license and product code.
@Fiat Lux - ASIAOK, that worked, I was able to grab my license and product ID, and using the link in the post above I was able to download 2019. I am going to try another experiment. I know that 2022 is currently running on my laptop. Now I am going to install 2019 on there and see if both will still run. If 2019 does and 2022 does not then I think my original assumption might be right. If neither or both run I am still in uncharted territory.
In either case, I can at least put 2019 on the laptop and have it running as a backup and give it a try by stripping everything from the desktop and going from scratch.
My bookkeeper is coming on Tuesday so I may wait until after to try stripping the desktop clean so she can at least do her monthly stuff. I don't want to potentially mess everything up before she gets here or make her work on my laptop, which is much slower and more finicky.
Thank you for your help
OK, so my experiment took an interesting turn. I was able to install both 2019 and 2022 on my laptop and both work. They both need to be activated, but they both start and load fine. So, now I am baffled and wonder even if I totally strip my desktop and put just 2022 back on if that will work.
I thought originally if I did it on my laptop and 2022 stopped working that I would know the cause of the problem on my desktop, but they both work on my laptop.
I suspect there is a problem with your Windows OS on your desktop machine. That's why I recommended installing the trial version for QBD 2022 Enterprise.
@Fiat Lux - ASIAAnything is possible, but I am curious why a trial version of QBD Enterprise would work if Desktop doesn't? Second, even if it does work it wouldn't be the product I would use going forward so I still have to solve the 2022 desktop debacle that occurring.
I have been using QB for 17 years and this is the most trouble I have ever had, but it seems like the problems were all saved up for this one incident given the amount of time I have already and still will have to invest in this.
Let me ask if Windows is the problem how do I go about fixing that problem? Would I be looking at a total HD wipe and re-install of Windows and all programs? God, I hope not.
@Fiat Lux - ASIAYour theory just rose to the top of the pile. Following your suggestion, I downloaded a trial of QB Desktop Enterprise and installed it. The installation went fine and I launched it with a sample company file. It seemed to get a little further in the launch cycle than the Desktop 2022, but ultimately failed and would not launch.
So now I am not sure what to do. If as you suspected, I have something corrupted in Windows I am not sure what to do. Everything else on my system seems to function fine. This is the only issue I seem to be having. If my Windows was corrupted I would have thought that something else on my system would be giving me problems.
I think I have a Windows 10 Pro disk around here I guess I could run a repair function on that and see if that fixes the issue.

As another option, consider installing a trial version for QBD 2021 to be sure before you try to repair your Windows OS.
@Fiat Lux - ASIASo, I found some stuff online to run an SFN scan, which is supposed to repair corrupted Windows files. I ran that and it did find and fix some corrupted files, but ultimately that didn't solve the problem. There was a more advanced option and I ran that, but that didn't work either.
I have a friend that is an IT manager and he directed me to a Windows media creation file that I can create on a USB drive and use it to upgrade to Windows 10, which I already have on there, but he said the upgrade will just reinstall Windows again, theoretically fixing the files by "upgrading" the system. I am creating the USB drive now.
However, I like your suggestion of installing QB 2021 trial and seeing if that will work. If it does that is a potential solution, but I am not sure how to get a license for it if it does work. I would ideally just upgrade to 2021 and stay with that for a couple of years if I can get Intuit to sell me a license for it. That would be a lot easier than wiping my system and rebuilding it just to get 2022 (maybe) to install.
If the 2021 trial doesn't work then I can use this upgrade option before wiping the system and see if that lets me run QB 2022 on there. I have a few things I can try. We will see where this goes from here.

Well, I thought I was on the right path here. I did a quick search for 2021 Desktop Pro trial and found a download page, but that turned out to be to download a licensed copy of 2021. I clicked on the link to get a trial, but that only takes you to the current software trial downloads.
Where do I go to download a QB Desktop Pro 2021 trial version so I can test this and see if this solution works?
