quickbooks 2020 crashing when I'm using accountant's copy file. error code 19062 00238

I'm using quickbooks 2020 accountant's edition and have an accountant's copy file (more than one) that will crash when I enter anything new in the file.  The error code I get is 19062 00238.  I've used the tool hub to try to repair anything but come up with no errors.  Any ideas?

Let me help you fix this in no time, @Susanlynnmiller.

The error you received can be caused by a conflict between QuickBooks 2020 and 2021. We can fix this by updating your QuickBooks to its latest release of 2021.

Here's how:

  1. Close your company files and QuickBooks.
  2. Open the Windows Start menu.
  3. Look for QuickBooks Desktop, and then right-click the icon and choose Run as administrator.
  4. On the No Company Open screen, go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  5. Select the Options tab and then choose Mark All, after click Save.
  6. Go to the Update Now tab and click the Reset Update checkbox.
  7. Once you're ready, choose to Get Updates.

When the update is finished, close and reopen QuickBooks Desktop. Then, click Yes to complete the process. Once done, restart your computer.

I've also added this reference you can read for further guidance: Use the Accountant's Copy

That should get you going in the right direction. Please let me know how it goes by leaving a comment on this thread. I'm here to help you always. Have a nice day ahead.

YES!!!  Thank you so much!  I updated my QBs 2021 Desktop and went into the file and made one correction and I didn't get kicked out.  I will continue to do the rest of the work I had to do in that file!  I appreciate your quick response!!

I can help you fix that, DavidG68.

There are times that you may receive an unrecoverable error while opening or working in your QuickBooks Desktop due to data damage. To isolate the issue, you can run the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This program is used to fix common file errors and repair data integrity issues.

Additionally, it's recommended to use this tool on Windows 10 (64-bit) for the best experience. When you're ready, here's how to run it:

  1. Close your QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Then, save it in your local storage.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install, then agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Once done, you'll have to launch the Quick Fix my File function. I'll show you how:

  1. From the tool hub, select the Company File Issues tab.
  2. Select Quick Fix my File.
  3. Click OK when it completes.
  4. Open your QuickBooks Desktop.

If you still get an error message after performing the steps above, please follow the third step/solution in this guide to run the QuickBooks File Doctor.

Lastly, you can always check our articles here if you need some reference in completing your other tasks in the program.

I'm just a post away if you have any other concerns or additional questions. Stay safe and have a great rest of the day.

Hello there, fghartmann.

I do appreciate your time in updating QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. You can reset the update and download again to refresh and then try creating an accountant's copy.

Here's how:

  1. Select Help and click Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Options tab and click Mark All. Then, Save.
  3. From the Update Now tab, click Reset Update.
  4. Then, click Get Updates.

If you have a specific error when creating an accountant's copy, you can go to this link: Resolve errors when creating or working on an accountant's copy.

quickbooks 2020 crashing when I'm using accountant's copy file. error code 19062 00238

I recently downloaded  accountant's copies of two companies from the same client into QB 2019.  The company file opens with no problem and all reports can be accessed.  However, in one company when attempting to change the classification of a deposit to another account and then closing that window to save the changes, the box pops up with an unrecoverable error and code 19062  00238.  In the other company, when attempting to reclassify an expense to another account, the same box and code appear.  The 2019 QB program then terminates itself.

I have already reset all updates and installed them, ran the verify tool, downloaded the QB Tool Hub and ran the quick fix and the more detailed diagnostic test.  None of these fix the problem.  Strangely, or fortunately, the other QB company files that work with are having no problems and no error codes when doing the same reclassifications.  Any suggestions?

Thanks for keeping us updated and what steps you tried so far, TopCat1.

Aside from using the Tool Hub and Verify/Rebuild Data Utility Tool, I'd like to share additional troubleshooting steps that can resolve unrecoverable errors in QuickBooks.

Let's start by repairing the software. This process can resolve some of the most common errors when working in the software. Here's how:

  1. Restart your computer. This makes sure there are no programs that may affect the repair.
  2. Open the Windows Start menu, then select Control Panel.

Note: If you're using Windows 8 or 8.1, search "Control Panel" in the Windows Start menu.

  3. Select Programs and Features, then click Uninstall a Program.

Note: If you don't see Programs and Features, select Programs instead. Then select Program and Features.

  4. Click QuickBooks from the list of programs, then Uninstall/Change.
  5. Select Continue, or Next.
  6. Click Repair, then click Next.

Note: The repair should start right away, but it may take a while to finish. You can leave it running, and come back once it's done.

  7. Click Finish.

Once done, go back to the company file that's getting an error. Then, try to change the account of the deposit to check if you're able to save it.

Just in case you're still getting the error, you can uninstall and reinstall QuicBooks. Here's an article as a guide: Clean Install QuickBooks Desktop.

I followed the steps outlined in a previous post for the same issue happening with QB2020 when .qba files would crash the 2020 program.  The "fix" was to to update the QB 2021 program as it "interfered" with 2020 program.  I have QB 2019 on my laptop but no later versions so I tried using the .qba files there and had no issues and could save transactions without crashing and getting the fatal error.  On my desk machine, I did have QB 2020 loaded so I updated 2020 to the lasted version and now I can use the the 2019 .qba  accountant copy files without issues!  I am sure this is some unintended consequence of the latest program updates as I have never had this issue working with accountant copies in my 30+ years as a Pro-Advisor!

I am getting the same error when I try to import my accountant changes to my client's QuickBooks.   Today is the second time its happened in the last week.  The first one I didn't have many changes so I just did them manually on the clients and discarded the accountants copy restrictions on the client's computer.   This time there are many changes that I don't want to have to re-enter.  What is the fix?  I have tried everything suggested here.   First time was with QB 2018 and this time it is with QB 2019.  Has never happened before.  FRUSTRATING

I understand how frustrating it is when the error keeps coming back while working on your file, 928359.

Let me help ensure you're able to get rid of the issue this time. You can start by making sure both the client and the accountant's QuickBooks are installed with the latest release.

Here's how to update QuickBooks:

  1. Click Help
  2. Select Product Name, then click Update Now.

You can also download specific updates directly from our website. Before doing so, you need to backup your company file.

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page.
  2. From the Select Country drop-down, choose your country.
  3. From the Select Product drop-down, choose your product.
  4. From the Select Version drop-down, choose your version (year).
  5. Select Search.
  6. Click Get updates. Save the downloaded file somewhere that's easy to find, like your Windows desktop.

When the download finishes, open the file to install the update. After the install, restart your computer. Then, open the newest download QuickBooks and restore the file from there.

Once all set, your client can create an Accountant's copy again and send it so you can make changes to their books.

Check out this link to learn the workflow of this feature: Use the Accountant's Copy.

If you're still receiving the same error, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Team. They can isolate why you're still getting the issue.

Let me know if you have follow-up questions by commenting below. I'll be around until the file is error-free while working on the Accountants' copy.

I attempted using this fix but nothing appears to change. Anytime I attempt to make a change (add an account, make an AJE) I get a Unrecoverable Error and the program closes.

Any other suggestions? I'm an experienced QB user and this has only happened after the new release requiring an online login.

Hi there, @JohnHoodCPA

Thanks for sharing your concern in this thread. I'm here to help you fix unrecoverable errors in QuickBooks Desktop.

There are some reasons you're getting an unrecoverable error. The most common are:

  • Missing Windows or QuickBooks updates
  • Damage to your data
  • Computer issues
  • Program code needs repairing

Here's an article that can help you handle and resolve the unrecoverable error when importing accountant's changes

Thanks for your reply. Please allow me to provide some additional information.

I am the accountant, attempting to enter journal entries or add accounts. The issue first occurred in Desktop 2020. I went back to a different client's QBA file, this time in Desktop 2019. I worked extensively in this file prior to year-end without issues. When I tried to add an account to this file the same thing happened. It is the same error code #19062 00238.

The only change I have noticed is that there is now a new procedure to log into my online account and have my client authorize me to log into the file. This seems like an unnecessary step.

Let's resolve the error you've encountered so you can enter journal entries or add accounts seamlessly, @JohnHoodCPA.

If your client is using a QuickBooks Desktop Pro or Premier 2019. Then, an Accountant must use a QuickBooks Desktop Premier Accountant Edition 2019 or 2020 to make changes to the

If it will detect an error, proceed and Rebuild your data:

  3. After creating the back-up file, the Rebuild Data utility will run automatically.
  4. Click OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed.

Step 3: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release. This process can help fix known issues, add features and enhancements. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top to choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. A new window appears, select the Update Now tab.
  3. Mark the Reset Update box to remove previously downloaded updates and hit Get Updates.
  4. Click OK to continue.
  5. Once completed, restart QuickBooks to kick off the installation and accept to install the new release.

Step 4: Recreate the change file in the Accountant's copy in QuickBooks Desktop. Access and open the file to create a working file (.QBA).

See this unrecoverable error when importing accountant's changes article for more information.

quickbooks 2020 crashing when I'm using accountant's copy file. error code 19062 00238

Thank you for your assistance, but I'm still having issues.

I am a long-time Pro Advisor using QB Accountant Desktop 2020. This same error happens in v. 2019 and with multiple client files. I had another staff member attempt to recreate the error on their workstation and they did not have issues.

I attempted to repair the installation of v.2020 which failed, so I completely uninstalled and reinstalled 2020. It appears to be up to date (R10_45). I did note that the other staff member seems to have a different version on the "Update QuickBooks Desktop" window. My version is v.31.0.4001.0 while she has v.30.0.4010.0. So, it would seem my version is more current.

This began to happen when I had to log in online when a client sent me a QBX file.

This is obviously crucial to my practice as we enter our busy season.

I appreciate the steps that you've taken and the update that you shared, @JohnHoodCPA.

I'd like to ensure that this Unrecoverable Error that you've encountered gets resolved so you can get back on track.

In QuickBooks Desktop Accountant, once your client sent you a .QBX file, you'll need to access and open the file to create a working file (.QBA). This way, you can work and make changes to their company file smoothly.

To give you in-depth information on how to utilize a .QBX file type, please scan through this article: Use an Accountant's Copy working file.

However, to further investigate and fix this matter, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. They have the necessary tool that can help isolate the root cause of this problem since it continues after performing the resolution shared above.

Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Click on Help at the top.
  2. Press on QuickBooks Desktop Help
  3. Select QuickBooks Support
  4. Choose your preferred way to speak with our representative.

Please update me if you have any other questions about this or with QuickBooks. I'll make sure you're all set. Have a good one!
