I have tried all the online suggestions. I have even done a troubleshooting session with QB over the phone using screenshare. Unfortunately, these unrecoverable errors continue to be a constant random occurrence.
Using QB Pro 2021.
Windows Error reporting shows numerous types of these errors "An unexpected error has occurred in "QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021":
FeatureDiscovery:NudgeConfig::GetNudgeConfigValue::Can't find nudge config value for key1: NudgeConfig, key2: PayrollCentreOpen, key3: WorkForceAutoEnableFTU, key4: ShowHighlighter"
Other errors are showing twice each of the following.
"An unexpected error has occured in "QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021":
Connection Error:Invalid user ID or password"
"An unexpected error has occured in "QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021":
Connection String:CON=QBConnectionPool-Probe-QB_data_engine_31; ;DBF=C:\Users\Removed\OneDrive\blank\Remved Drywall DBA.QBW;ENG=QB_data_engine_31;DBN=ea6a07f4b4a44cde836afb78e81356d9"
"An unexpected error has occured in "QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021":
DBConnPool::HandleConnectionError errorCode:-6069, dbCode:-103 from file:'src\connpool.cpp' at line 1043 from function:'DBMgr::DBConnPool::init'"
Also of note QB Tool Hub File Doctor never loads up after any amount of time waiting. The errors started appearing about 4/5 weeks ago after a QB update and restart.
Luckily the program saves data before crash, which can happen during any operation, or even sitting idle.
Hopefully someone in this community can help me get QB running smoothly again.
Thanks for sharing your concern today, @Wallboard.
There are various causes of Unrecoverable Errors and the codes that may come with it in QuickBooks.
Before performing necessary troubleshooting, let's make sure to:
Then, let's identify how many users are affected as our initial steps. Here's how:
If the Admin user is damaged, run the QuickBooks File Doctor from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This will help fix common errors.
If the issue persists, I'd recommend following Solution 2 in this help article: Unrecoverable Error: General Troubleshooting Steps.
Feel free to keep in touch if you need additional help. We're always around here to assist.
Thanks for trying to assist. I'm still struggling with this issue now it just gets more crazy.
It isn't the impression I'd like you to have, @Wallboard.
Things do break, as we all know. But we're here to assist you. To find the resources available to assist you in resolving QuickBooks Desktop difficulties, download the latest version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub (Version 1.5.0.0.). I recommend using Tool Hub on Windows 10, 64-bit.
Here's how:
Once done, you can use the Tool Hub as a launchpad for tools you'll use to fix the issue.
If you're still getting the same error, it is best to contact QuickBooks Desktop support. This way, they can investigate further and check the cause of the issue to provide the best resolution.
My colleague suggested backup your files before doing all the troubleshooting steps. When everything is working, you can restore the backup file.

Which Windows OS do you run? Win 10 or 11?
Have you tried to clean install?
https:// quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/product-delivery/clean-install-quickbooks-desktop/L6cDdojs7_US_en_US?uid=l4gemshm
I have been trying to make use of Tool Hub ver. 1.5
It doesn't help.In fact "File Doctor" appears to try and load up but there is no activity after the loading bars go away.
I am using Win 11. I am on the beta preview ver, 10.0.22621 Build 2261.
As stated in my original post everything was fine until QB updated about six weeks ago now.
I have reset my operating system and updated all my drivers.
I then downloaded and installed QB to a different drive.
I have not had any success with it yet. With the auto start QB modulus suppressed I can operate in windows. As soon as I try to open QB instant Bad_Pool_Caller and Windows restarts.
Try to reinstall your QBD in Win 8 compatibility mode.
We'll have to fix the error that you're getting first to get you back on track, Wallboard.
Generally, the Bad_pool_caller error means that you may need to revert to the previous configuration of your PC. To do this, follow the steps below:
However, if the issue persists I recommend reaching out to our support team to investigate further. They have the tools to pull up your account in a secure environment. Just a quick followup question from left field. I've been having similar issues to those reported in this thread, for several weeks now. Like the OP I am running Windows 11 dev build. I only use the app about once a month, and so I suffer through the crashes to get my data input and reports generated. But it's disconcerting and disruptive to say the least. I only found this thread because I searched specifically for the text "FeatureDiscovery:NudgeConfig::GetNudgeConfigValue::Can't find nudge config value for key1: NudgeConfig, key2: DelayedCoFileOpened, key3: SubscriptionEndingPlusToQBONudge, key4: MediaCommand" which was reported in windows event log as it crashed the last time.
For the OP, did any of the actions recommended help? Or did you resolve it in some other manner?
I appreciate you posting here and sharing your experiences, @PUCC_Treas.
At the moment, there is no other similar concern shared on the QuickBooks Community page.
Crashing of QuickBooks is usually caused by a damaged component in the program. To fix the issue, you'll want to make sure that you're . To fix the issue, you'll want to make sure that you're using the latest release of your QBDT product. This way, you'll always get our bug fixes and security patches.

Thank you, I will step through the processes you have described. We normally have one user (me) on one desktop. About 2 months ago I upgraded from 2019 to 2021 version and each month do the manual check for updates and ensure they are installed. Last month when creating reports, I did a repair installation as well as attempting to use a couple of the tools Intuit provides to determine if there is corruption, and most everything seemed to work fine. I did even reset the password on the login account, (but cannot remember now if I actually created a new account or just reset the account password). I notice that sometimes if I avoid having too many actions / windows /etc open that I can get more work done before the crash occurs.
In windows event log, I saw a lot of the errors (dozens within a second or so) that were posted in my last post (about 'nudge'), but they were preceded by some login error.
An unexpected error has occured in "QuickBooks: Premier Nonprofit Edition 2021":
FeatureDiscovery:NudgeConfig::GetNudgeConfigValue::Can't find nudge config value for key1: NudgeConfig, key2: DelayedCoFileOpened, key3: AssistedPayrollIsAllSetNudge, key4: PositiveAction
(I say dozens of these occurred within the same second, I should clarify the keys vary, particularly key4).
However, the most recent crash only generated this in the event log:
An unexpected error has occured in "QuickBooks: Premier Nonprofit Edition 2021":
QuickBooks has experienced a problem and must be shut down, ErrorCode:1986556210.
As I scroll through the different events, even the nudge errors seem to be preceeded by something like the above, or maybe like this one:
An unexpected error has occured in "QuickBooks: Premier Nonprofit Edition 2021":
V31.0D R10 (M=1066, L=335, C=249, V=0 (0))
If I am patient and avoid doing too much too fast, it seems I can usually get the job done. None of this happened in the 2019 version on the same laptop.
I will create the new user account as you have suggested and try this again. Failing that, I do have another user account on the same PC, so I can try to open QB through that account.
Just to note.
At your step 5, Close Company/Logoff, I was presented with the option to rate quickbooks (would I recommend to a friend?). When I went to click that interaction, I got the error (and did send to support with my email address attached). I will now attempt to login with the new account.
errm. Okay, I logged in. The new features wizard popped up and when I went to click okay, the whole app just went away (no error dialog at all). I will restart my pc and try this again.
After creating new user and then restarting (following problematic first login) I do seem for now to be able to manage accounts, create and export reports to excel, and various other things that took me some time to do earlier in the day while navigating around the application errors. So, fingers crossed that this remains working. I will update this thread in the event of further crashes.
And before I hit post I went back to QB and this happened. The event log snap below is the only entry that was logged for this particular crash.
Thanks.
We're seeing this issue as well. It started occurring late May early June.
We've done all the steps suggested.
It happens to all users.
We're on the Accounting Desktop 2021 R10 - the most current release
Permissions are correct on server
UAC is disabled
- the first time a user tries to open a company file it takes 10 minutes to open!
-use task manager to close QB, relaunch and we get QB has stopped working
-third time we launch a company file it opens right away.
I've spent 2 hours on the phone with QB support with 3 different technicians.
And no effective solutions have been offered.
Thanks for getting back with the Community, PUCC_Treas. I appreciate you performing AbegailS_'s troubleshooting steps.
If you've already troubleshot with our QuickBooks File Doctor, I'd recommend suppressing your copy of QuickBooks.
Here's how:
If the error continues displaying and QuickBooks continues crashing, you'll want to try opening a sample file to identify if the problem's with your company file or with QuickBooks itself:
In the event your sample file opens, the company file may be damaged or your folder where it's saved is damaged. In this case, you can try copying the company file to a different location.
If the error persists and you have any recent backups, try restoring to them. You can also use Auto Data Recovery (ADR) to restore your data.
In the event QuickBooks continues displaying the message and crashing, you'll want to try troubleshooting with our Quick Fix my Program utility.
Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any questions. Have an awesome Tuesday!
OP here.
Since I am a very small business (Sole Proprietor) I needed to stay on track before I got derailed.
I purchased a new laptop just to run QB. It runs fine using the file from the troubled machine. In fact my file is readily available on either machine via OneDrive.
I have been able to overcome the system crashes by wiping and re install of QB on the trouble machine.
I still get the Unrecoverable Error and closing of QB only on the trouble machine. Sometimes right away, sometimes while in the middle of invoicing, estimating, payroll. Totally random.
I've found that I sometimes get more time if I open QB and minimize, wander off for a bit and come back to it.
File Doctor will not open and run from the Tool Hub but will on the new laptop. I even have the File Doctor Icon on the laptop.
So for now I'm begrudgingly using a laptop to do my QB work.
I do qb work in spurts - usually when monthly reports are due. I was able to navigate around the errors and generate some reports yesterday so then I did a database backup, did a complete uninstall of qb, renaming all the folders under c:\user\xxx\appdata ; c:\programdata ; c:\program files (x86) ; to .bak extensions.
I then did a reinstall from base software of 2021 version. The installation went cleanly. Instead of reopening my file, I went through registration and opened the sample we care community foundation database. When I first went into it I navigated around. No problems. I went to File menu... Fix company file and network issues pulldown under utilities ... no problems there either (this would usually trip the fault in earlier testing yesterday). So the last thing I did yesterday before running out of time was to use the Update Quickbooks under Help. It installed updates and prompted me to close / reopen quickbooks to apply updates. At that point I closed quickbooks and left it for the evening.
This morning, I opened quickbooks. As before, I am able to do a few tasks (using the community foundation sample db) and then when I navigate to File menu... Fix company file and network issues pulldown under utilities, I experience the same crash as yesterday.
The only difference between this and the successful navigation before I quit yesterday was the application of the recent hotfixes and/or updates. Again - this is using default installation with sample DB. Is there any information you need about my software levels, etc?
I am happy to uninstall and go back to base 2021 and really hit it hard to see if I can reproduce without the recent updates, but I won't do that without an indication of whether you think it's worthwhile.
Regards,
Treas
2nd reply of the day. As noted earlier I did a full uninstall, cleanup, reinstall.
At first things appeared to be okay.
I then applied all pending updates.
Now, with generic setup and sample file only, crashes are back.
Per instruction in last comment by support, I opened the tool hub and did a quick fix my program. After restarting, the same problem continues to occur.
Edit: Back to tool hub, next option is Quickbooks program diagnostic tool, which is described as: will run through a variety of repair processes for all the Microsoft components ... I went ahead and ran that, rebooted, and as soon as I open the sample file, return to the utilities page to look at repair options it crashes again.
Based on where I can always trigger, I would suspect that your IE replacement code/browser is not playing nice with new versions of Windows 11, because it is always in the website browser page where you can download the tool hub, but before I actually have any interactions with the site. And since that IE replacement browser code is probably always present in QB in some form, it might explain the intermittent nature of when this occurs. If that change was implemented in the May timeframe as IE was approaching end of support then that would explain why the generic 2021 install without updates didn't seem to be problematic. Is there a way to switch back to IE mode via a software switch/ini file/configuration setting to see if the issue stabilizes? Just wearing my IT hat here, as my day job is software support. I could be out in left field. But I suspect if I load QB 2021 on a generic windows 10 or maybe even an off the shelf Win 11 pc, then I'd probably be okay but the dev builds of Windows 11 do sometimes have cutting edge restrictions that haven't been put into the real world yet. That means whatever the OP and I are experiencing (and apparently another group of users per the comments), may become a very, very widespread issue if Microsoft does a patch cycle that pushes a change on their side triggering this. It would be useful for all of us to narrow down the focus to what is actually happening and not keep trying to put bandaid fixes on it.
Regards.
Manderberg,
We just updated to 2022, having the same 10 minute to open a file issue for a number of our company files. Upgrading, which was forced as Intuit dropped logging into Intuit website with IE forced our hand on upgrading, which has been nothing but pure nightmare for us for the past 5 days. Worst product ever.

In regards to the above comment I made in last post I am attaching a lot file that would seem to agree with the observation. A couple of errors are being logged including this:

We upgraded from QBD 2021 Enterprise to QBD 2022 Enterprise
Hello, PUCC_Treas.
.
I appreciate your patience in following the troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. We shouldn't want you to have an experience like this. I'll share one more step with you so you may keep working on your QuickBooks tasks.
The most likely causes of unrecoverable errors are outdated versions of Windows or QuickBooks, damaged data, and computer problems. I know you have already attempted most of the troubleshooting methods my colleague provided above, except for fixing the QuickBooks application.
Let's repair the QuickBooks Desktop application to ensure all the components of running the program are updated. I'll show you how.
You can also ask your IT staff for help in manually installing Microsoft components. Check out the following articles below to guide you through the process:
If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support. They'll be able to pull up your account and submit a ticket for further investigation.
Do you need to run reports after repairing the problem to check your finances? For information on the kind of reports, you can utilize, see this resource: Understand reports.
Please let me know if you require any additional help with QuickBooks or with recording your entries in the future. I'll be here to assist you.
