I am having the same issue. I can print the 1096 but not the 1099.
It isn't the kind of experience that we want you to come across, deah.
If you've already tried the troubleshooting shared by my colleague above, yet, you're still unable to print the 1099 forms, I'd recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team. This way, an agent can take a look at your file and isolate what causes the issue.

If you're unable to print the 1099 forms right after going through the 1099 wizard on the Printer Setup page, we have an ongoing issue about this one. That said, I'd recommend contacting us we can add you to the list of affected users.

I’m here to help ensure you can print the 1099 forms smoothly. Let’s run some troubleshooting steps to accomplish this task.
We’ll have to download the latest maintenance release for your QuickBooks to apply critical fixes and enhancements in QuickBooks. This will also resolve any issues you encounter when using the desktop program. Then go back to the 1099 Wizard to print the tax forms.
Once done, close and reopen your QuickBooks to kick off the installation. Next, choose the option to install the new release.
If you continue to get the same result, download the QuickBooks Tool Hub and run the QuickBooks PDF & Print Repair Tool. The utility can resolve common printing errors.
If none of these suggestions work, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team for further assistance. They can review the mapping of your 1099s in a secure space. Then guide you on how to apply the permanent solution to get a copy of the tax forms.

For those others that were experiencing the same problem I have been I was able to find out from support that there is yet another box to be checked when updating QB. Go to the options tab and make sure BOTH Automatic Update AND Shared Download are checked YES.
That solved my problem with being able to use the new three-part 1099-NEC form.
I have same problem, Pro Plus 2022 w windows 11.
In vendor / 1099 forms / print vendors are checked but are greyed out , can’t do print preview or print. Have gone to tool hub 3 times done updates, rebooted 3 times
No change. I tried the repair printer and pointed my print settings at 1099 form
Maybe what I need is an old typewriter, would be faster since I have no payroll and only 4 vendors
any other suggestions?

I have been printing 1099’s since 2013 so I know screen sequence,
The first QB call back told me she could not help but I needed to call [removed] that # goes to a message that tells me to sign in and do what I did in first place ( another QB mis information)
now being transferred to level 2 rep after 15 min describing issue, Re booting again while I hold since there is no music so I wonder if anyone will actually answer
now providing actives # w prior rep but no help yet
QB Told me to call [removed], message said to go to help and request call back which is what I did in first place
So again time is ticking away. I feel like a simple report that I have done since 2013 has now taken 2 weeks
First call back said to call [removed] then that message said to go back to QB and request call back which is what I did in first place now 25 minutes into hold time to reach level 2 rep
I had the same issue. I had to go to employees and do the "get payroll update". Then it worked. Just in case anyone else wants to try that solution.
I am having the same problem as several others. I am able to print the 1096, but not the 1099's (from QuickBooks desktop 2021). I can go all the way through the wizard, but when I click print 1099's nothing happens. It doesn't bring up an error or send anything to my printer. As an accountant preparing 1099's for clients, I have several versions of QuickBooks loaded on my computer. I am able to print the 1099's in QuickBooks desktop 2020, but not 2021. With the deadline fast approaching for these forms, this is very frustrating.

After, running the ‘repair’ function w a level 2 rep the the $$ appeared but I had to reset thresholds. But then I went to print on the 3 part form but that failed since QB is set for 2 part. There are additional fixes for that but I was too tired and needed to do other things…
so, I loaded vendors to the tax1099 and paid to have them sent.
I am beside myself with this issue! I cannot print any 1099's even though I can print invoices and any other forms out of Quickbooks Premier Accountant 2021. There is clearly something wrong with the wizard. I've tried every single troubleshooting fix given in this thread by QB support and nothing is working. And of course, the next available call back time is on Monday, the deadline to file. This is so maddening! I've been using Quickbooks for 15+ years and do 1099's for multiple clients every year and never run into a problem like this!
