Hey there, @Dcmef.
Please know that we understand the importance of your concerns. Our Payroll Team is aware of the forms and is working on getting this matter resolved.
As mentioned by my colleague above, we don't have an exact time when this will update and become available. However, we suggest keeping an eye out for updates that will most likely be happening at the first of the year.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Take care, and have a wonderful day ahead!
I just don't understand why Intuit didn't have this change done by now - Intuit should have known about this a long time ago and updated programs.
I have Pro Plus, I have been on the phone with QB they tell me they do not have an upgrade to print the 2021 1099 NEC. Will this be coming out soon??
Please respond
Julie

The updated information is here, Julie.
Allow me to share updates about the 1099 NEC form in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). This way, you can file them on time.
Upon checking our sample QBDT account, the 1099 NEC forms are already available. Make sure that your account is in the latest version so that you can print the updated form. Also, this is to ensure you have the latest features and fixes.
Here's how:
For more details, see this article: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise.
Once complete, recheck the form if it's already available on your side. If you already see it, you will now be able to print and file the form.
You can check out some of these guides below for some additional insight into the 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC forms:
If you have any other concerns or follow-up questions about filing your forms in QBDT, you can always get back to me in this thread. I’d be happy to assist you. Keep safe, Julie.
Does the sample company file that you have has the option to print the 3 forms per page 1099 NEC?
the question is NOT about setting up NEC forms...we got that done last year. The question is about how to print the NEW 3 to a page NEC forms now. when will qb desktop send out updates to allow for that to happen. We can already collect the information to be printed..but the forms have changed AGAIN..new for 2021. thanks.
Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2020 is NOT ready to print the 1099-NEC's. When I open the program there is no notification that there is an update. I went into the program to try and update that way also- nothing. That means that no one at this point in time can print their 1099 NEC's. So I am not sure why MichelleHB said it was ready. Maybe it is in your sample company and just have not pushed it out to us. Or am I miss-understanding something.
I can see the urgency of Printing 1099-NEC in QuickBooks, Dcmef.
I understand you need to be able to print the 1099-NEC forms since it’s time for tax filing. And with that, I have good news to share with all of you. You should now be able to print 3 to a page for 1099-NEC. All you need to do is make sure you are on the latest releases with the appropriate critical fixes.
Here’s how:
1. Go to the Help menu.
2. Click Update QuickBooks Desktop.
3. Go to the Options tab and click Mark All, then Save.
4. Tap the Update Now tab.
5. Make sure Critical Fixes is checked.
6. Then click Get Updates.

If you have any other questions about viewing the 940 forms, let me know by adding a comment below. I'm always here to help. Keep safe!
It's not about Form 940. Form 1099-NEC has a new format where there are 3 to a page instead of 2. When will the update to the 1099-NEC form layout be released?
Yes. The 1099 are what we want. the new 3 page, still no update and the accountants want to get their submissions in so they can make corrections if needed. Submission date is pretty early in Jan, no? any true ETA would be great for us to pass on out here.
Thanks for joining us, @aamilton and MountainTecGuy.
I have some information about printing the 3-page1099-NEC forms. Currently, we don't have a specific time frame when the printing option will be available in QuickBooks. I recommend turning on the Automatic Updates. This process will keep your data file updated to the latest release when they're available.
Here's how to do it:
Once new updates on the program is available, you'll be prompted, accept the option. For details about the updates, check out this guide: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
About the submission date, this form should be filed with the IRS, on paper or electronically, and sent to recipients by February 1, 2021.
I'm also attaching this link to help you manage your taxes: Year-end guide for QuickBooks Desktop.
If you still have questions or concerns with 1099 forms, please let me know. I'm always here to help. Take care and have a great day ahead.
Hi all and thanks for this thread!
I have the opposite problem. I ordered my 1099/1096 forms back in August to get the best price on them since I generally have to print between 100 and 150 per year for 10 different company files. The forms I received are 2-UP, not 3-UP. Just today, I went into one of the company files to make sure I had all of the Vendor information and did a print preview and it is showing as 3-UP and I cannot find a way to change it back to 2-UP. I have QBD 2020 R13P and 2021 R8P. I don't know what to do! The IRS must still be accepting 2-Up forms or these guys wouldn't still be selling them, would they? I have sent their support department a note as well, but don't really expect to hear back from them this week.
Thanks in advance,
Linda
I'm having the same issue! I just want to print 2 to a page NOT 3!!
Hi @Linda S and @alaskamaia,
I'll share the steps on how you can print 2-UP 1099-NEC form. Let's go to your printer settings to see it.
Here's how:
For details, check out this article: Print your 1099 forms.
About the IRS accepting 2-UP forms, I recommend contacting IRS directly. They'll be able to answer your questions if they're going to receive them or not.
Additionally, here are some handy articles that'll guide you along. It contains information and details about which forms to file and their due dates.
Please know that you're always welcome to swing by if you have follow-up questions or concerns with 1099 forms. I'll be around for you. Have a good one.
Linda S & Alaskamaia
The 1099-MISC is still 2-Up. It is only the 1099-NEC that changed to 3-up that we are all waiting for Intuit to update. Doesn't look promising that it will happen soon. Hopefully they won't make us all wait till the middle or even the end of January when the forms are due. I am STILL UPSET over this.
Dcmef - I am able to print 1099-NEC in the 3-Up format yesterday and today with QBD 2020 R13. The alignment is a little wonky, but I was able to adjust enough that it should be usable. Hoping they fine tune it a bit before I print the majority of my forms in the first week of January. I am upset that the change in format was not widely publicised by either the IRS or Intuit. I had to run out and purchase the new format forms, when I already had a supply of the old format that I will now have to toss. I also realized that I don't have the appropriate envelopes for the 3-Up format and have to buy those as well. I have several hundred 2-Up envelopes and only a few of those forms to mail, so wasted money on buying those as well. Not happy overall.
ShiellaGraceA - The article you reference and instructions do not apply to tax year 2021, even though the article seems to be dated November 2021. This is very confusing and misleading and should be updated by Intuit. It is not helping since the commands referenced are not available, and apparently the IRS is only accepting the 3-Up format for 1099-NEC this year.
I totally agree.
I just got off the phone with Intuit and speaking with Jayna. She told me that both the 940 forms and the new 1099-NEC 3 up forms will be ready tomorrow-1/1/22 - we will see if that holds true.
Well - I guess it was wishful thinking that it would be true that the 1099-NEC 3 up and the Form 940 would be ready today, Jan 1st, 2022 like Jayna said it would. IT IS NOT READY. Maybe they are just telling us things to get us off their backs. GET THIS FIXED!!!!!!!!! :( :( :(
Well my fellow frustrated posters. Today is the 2nd of January and STILL NO 940 form update or 1099-NEC 3 up forms. I have to get mine done also.
Hi there, Dcmef.
I appreciate you for coming back to the thread to add further details about your concern. Also, this isn't the kind of impression that I'd like you to have, and we know how much time it can take when something isn’t available or no updates about forms in QuickBooks Desktop. With this, I'll ensure to share additional details about 940 and how 1099 works in a new tax year.
As of now, Form 940 is not yet available in QBDT. We're unable to provide an exact time frame as to when this form will be available in QBDT. However, this will usually be available within the first week of January 2022. We'll keep you updated with its availability through email or in-app notifications. Just ensure that your QBDT is on the latest release with an updated tax table so the form will flow in your account.
On the other hand, Intuit offers 1099 Forms (two per sheet) with a size of 8 1/2" x 11" and compatible double-window envelopes of 5 5/8" x 8 3/4" for the new tax year 2021. However, with the new tax year 2021, form 1099-NEC was resized, and the height of the form was reduced to accommodate three forms on a page. That said, QuickBooks can print 1099's three to a page instead of two to a page.
For further details on how printing 1099's works in QuickBooks, you can click each article below.
Additionally, before year-end, QuickBooks update the form to be compliant with IRS. Thus, I recommend checking our Product Updates page for reference to be notified of any news and updates about QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

you say that qb pro 2020 can handle 3 to a page 1099 NEC...that is not true. at least not on my mac 2020 qb pro desktop..there is a drop down on the print screen but that only has options for 2, 4 or more to a page. that's not the correct format. i've tried downloading any updates. they they all say i've got the latest update. it's time. we need to get these out now. what's going on with this. Just another example of the continuing downgrade of quickbooks services. Very dissappointing.
Hi SMB2020. I am on a Macbook Pro 2020 using QB for Mac 2020 and having the same issue (except I don't even see an option to change from 2 to 4 or more on any screen!). I am a one person company and not very tech savvy. Would you email me at [email address removed] as I'd appreciate having a person to connect with to figure this out?
Hello. Saw that you posted that QB 2019 is still supported. I have the Mac version but have not yet seen an update. I just chatted with a QB tech and he advised that my 2019 is NOT supported and in order to print my 2021 1099 NECs i will have to upgrade to 2022! Is this correct?
