Update to handle new 1099-NEC forms for QB Pro 2017 desktop?

Will any patches or updates be made available for those that use QB Pro 2017 Desktop so we can print the latest version of the 1099-NEC forms?  For the 2020 tax year, there was a work-around that we used by changing the box numbers so the amounts would print correctly on the NEC forms.  But now I've been told the IRS has changed the NEC forms yet again, to print 3 per page, that we will have to use for the 2021 tax year.  The work-around will no longer work.

Will Intuit offer any assistance at all to those of us with slightly older versions of Quickbooks so we can print our tax forms?

What the reps appear go be trying to communicate, but without actually saying it, is  "No".

Intuit will not update sunset versions of QuickBooks with new tax forms, which are typically delivered via the payroll updates, and which in turn are no longer available once your product sunsets (expires, dies, isn't supported anymore.)

QB 2017 died, from Intuit's POV, over a year ago. Currently Versions 2019, 2020, and 2021 are supported.

Update to handle new 1099-NEC forms for QB Pro 2017 desktop?

Hi there, JenFleet.

Thanks for reaching out to us. I'm here to assist you with your concern about the 1099-NEC updates.

I've got some steps you may consider doing to print the latest 1099-NEC forms. Please check this out:

  1. Go to the Edit  menu and select Preferences.
  2. Choose Tax: 1099 tab in the left panel.
  3. Select Company Preferences.
  4. Make sure that the Yes radio button in the Do you file 1099-MISC forms? is enable.

If the same thing happens, you'll want to consider upgrading your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest version. This way, you'll have uninterrupted access to our latest payroll updates and other services.

Please reach back out to me here with any additional information on the issue, so I can get you taken care of.

@GlinetteC

The question was: "Will Intuit offer any assistance at all to those of us with slightly older versions of Quickbooks so we can print our tax forms?"

I don't think you answered it.

The OP doesn't want to know how to turn on 1099's. They've clearly already done that.

Allow me to join this thread and clear things up, Jen.

Before anything else, I'd like to thank @BigRedConsulting for the clarification.

I can see how important it is to your business to be able to print your 1099-NEC form. QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) released an announcement that older versions of QBDT can no longer access Live support and other services.

Rest assured you can still access your QBDT 2018. However, add-on services will be unavailable to you. To learn more about this, feel free to check this article for reference: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information.

In addition to this, you'll want to upgrade your QBDT to the latest versions (2019,2020,2021). This way, we can ensure you'll be able to print the latest 1099-NEC forms.

Once you've upgraded your QBDT, you can now confidently print and file your 1099's whenever you're ready.

You can always get back to me if you have any other questions about printing your 1099-NEC. You can also add in your reply if you have other QuickBooks concerns. I'll be here to help and ensure to keep you on the right track.

Update to handle new 1099-NEC forms for QB Pro 2017 desktop?

Hi.  My question is regarding the 2021 1099 form being 3-part.  Will QB have an update to allow printing on the new forms?  We are running QB21 as of right now.

Thanks for joining us here, @Jenn0471.

I'll share some information about the 1099-NEC Tax Forms. We have the 2021 Pre-Printed 1099-NEC Kit that contains the following:

  • 2021 1099-NEC forms (three tax forms per page)
  • four free 1096 forms
  • compatible double-window envelopes

This is also compatible with QuickBooks Desktop 2020 or later. For more information about the form, please visit our website: QuickBooks Pre-Printed 1099 Kits.

Additionally, here's a link that'll help you with your year-end taxes: Year-end guide for QuickBooks Desktop.

A question asked earlier didn't get answered completely.  Will Quick Books Desktop provide an update to allow for printing of 1099-NEC 3 PER PAGE?  Currently mine is only allowing 2 PER PAGE.  Forms need to be ordered asap!  Please advise and thank you!

I appreciate you joining the thread, @kpbt.

Please be aware that QuickBooks will release an update that will allow you to print your 3 to a page 1099 NEC. The release update will most likely be implemented before the 1099 filing season begins.

QuickBooks doesn't currently have an update that will allow users to print the 2021 1099-NEC documents (three tax forms per page).

Update to handle new 1099-NEC forms for QB Pro 2017 desktop?

My understanding from another thread is that INTUIT is not yet supporting the new 3up format (cuss the IRS for changing)

This is not acceptable.... I have over 30 clients who rely and pay dearly for QB software and for INTUIT to not support IRS regulated changes is ridiculous.

Please escalate this to the correct department as this needs to be solved prior to Jan as the forms are due 1/31/22!

Also add to this thread *** which version of QuickBooks will have the patch to print 2021 1099-NEC 3 to a page format? I am using Enterprise 19.0 and need to know if the 1099 update will be available for this software version.

Hi shelliott423,

Normally, release updates are created for all supported versions. Let's just wait for announcements. You'll usually get a prompt about important updates in QuickBooks. When that happens, all you need to do is download them using the steps below.

  1. Go to the Help menu and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Update Now tab. Tip: You can select the Reset Update checkbox to clear all previous update downloads.
  3. Select Get Updates.
  4. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  5. When prompted, accept the option to install the new release.

Let me know if you have other concerns. Take care and have a good one!

I just got off the phone with someone at Quickbooks and the patch/update to print 3 per page will not be available until the 1st week of January of 2022.

I have been trying to do a trial run of 1099-Nec forms.  It is not allowing me to print on new 3 per page forms - are you going to update so we can print by year end?

Hi there, @RMB65.

The release update will most likely be implemented before the 1099 filing season begins. And, release updates are created for all supported versions.

Please know that its preprinted copies are only compatible with QuickBooks 2020 or later versions. If you're using a lower version, I'd recommend upgrading it so you can print them. You can check out this article for further info: How to Upgrade to a New Version of QBDT from within the Program.

Additionally, these articles offer even more details about filing 1099 in your Desktop account:

Please feel more than welcome to send a reply if there are any additional questions about printing the 1099-NEC 3 per page. I'll be right here to help you.

The 2020 1099 NEC forms are all 3up not 2 up.  Neither QBDT 2020, 2021, or 2022 print the 1099 NEC on 3 up forms. Will this be corrected or is there a current workaround.

Hello, murabitoassociates.

Thanks for turning to the Community for support. I'd be glad to provide some info regarding the 1099 form in your Desktop account.

The Payroll Team is aware of the changes that need to be  made and are working to get this updated as quickly as possible. Keep an eye out for updates that will most likely be happening at the first of the year.

If you have any other questions in the mean time please don't hesitate to reach back out.

Intuit is currently selling the 3-up forms and they say they work with QuickBooks:

https://intuitmarket.intuit.com/tax-forms/1099-forms

The site says QB 2020+, though I chatted with a rep and he said the site is wrong and the forms work with 2019+, so all currently-supported versions of QuickBooks.

Yes. The updated format of the 1099 NEC will work fine with QB 2019 and above. You will just need to wait for the release update for all supported QB version so it can print the 3 forms per page 1099 NEC.

Update to handle new 1099-NEC forms for QB Pro 2017 desktop?

HI. Today is the 27th of December and I have been ready to do my year end 1099NEC's for a week now.  QB Pro 2020 is still not updated.  I got my forms from the IRS 2 months ago. If they can update the forms that early why is your programming team not on the ball and have this already done.  I need to get mine out ASAP.

This is ridiculous - I know others need the program updated also.  Do you even have an exact date?

It is Dec 27th and the QB Pro 2020 pro is still not updated for the 1099-NEC 3 per page.  If the IRS can have the new forms why can't your programming department have this ready.  I got my forms over 2 months ago.  I need to get my 1099 Nec's out ASAP.  Do you have an exact date?
