This is the same advice that has not worked over and over.
Here is my issue and I can't find anyone with QBDT to give me a good answer and what am I supposed to do if it never goes past the submitted to intuit status?
So, I submitted my 941 efile almost 3 days ago and it still says submitted to intuit. I have called a few times and the only answer I get is that it is still processing and wait 10 days. It has never been this way, I submit to intuit and it says submitted to intuit and within 24 hours (usually much quicker) it will say submitted to agency and the agency accepted or rejected. The QBDT website says same thing so its like my submission is stuck within intuit and not being submitted to agency. Both people I spoke with QBDT said it was an IRS issue to pass the issue off. It's not an IRS issue it hasnt' been sent to the IRS yet, it's still with Intuit. QBDT website even gives the process. I can't re-efile as QBDT wont' let me do that.
I can share additional info to ensure you can submit EFTPS payments seamlessly in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), monikalynn.
Once we forwarded the form, we need to wait for the IRS either accept or reject it. We will send you an updates from your email time to time.
In addition, you can go to the E-Payments tab so you can check the status of the e-payed federal tax. You can check out this article for the complete information: Check e-pay status. It also contains instructions on how to check an e-file status.
For more details about this process, I suggest checking this article: Small business tax forms, terms, and dates to know for 2021
Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.
Good Morning and thank you for responding, however this is not about payments as I stated this is my efile 941 quarterly report. All my other efiles sent at same time, for state and w/2,W3 went thru fine. In my research the progression one efile is submitted it
submit to intuit
submitted to agency
agency accepts or rejects
My 941 quarterly report is stuck at the submitted to intuit stage and has NOT been submitted to agency IRS yet? Why, no one I talked to can tell me. I have tried now 4 times and no one can answer, they say wait. it does not take over 72 hours. Someone from a higher level was to call me back yesterday and NEVER did.
I'm seeing a pattern here....I too usually "send to Intuit...", "sent to the agency" and "successfully processed..." a federal tax form all within a 4-5 hour window.
HOWEVER, I TOO have my Form 941 4th Qtr 2021 "Sent to Intuit for Processing" on 1/2/2022 at 3:45 p.m. EST.....and there it still sits.
Should I mail a hard copy in the mail to be sure it gets to the IRS timely?
All payments were sent & processed within the same minute successfully over the last quarter.
I can provide some insights about the status of your payroll forms, MTV2day.
Once you've successfully submitted those payroll forms on time in QuickBooks, we'll take care of them. We'll submit those returns by batch.
Hence, you don't have to worry about getting them to the IRS. All you need to do is check your email since we send a notification if your e-payment or e-filing was accepted or rejected.
I'm adding again this link so you can trace the status: Learn how to check e-file or e-pay status for QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Enhanced. It explains each status and provides solutions if there's an issue.
Please get back to me by commenting below if you have additional questions about the status of your returns. I'm right here to help you.
First, I solved the issue myself back in 2019, so very happy I didn't have to wait until Jan 2022 for an answer from Intuit. Secondly, this answer is not accurate, It does not deal with the issue that I questioned.
For anyone still experiencing this problem, you'll need to sign on to your EFTPS account, change/update your password there, and then update the new password in QuickBooks. Might have to do this once a year from now on, so keep an eye on your federal tax deposits for rejected payments.
Problem is that Intuit has not submitted them to the agency- they are stuck with intuit. Another QB person sent me a private message with a phone number to a digital solutions company? Is that normal
I'm here to give information about your concern, @monikalynn.

Ashworkz, it is certain that we will need to update the EFTPS passwords at the EFTPS site and in QuickBooks at least every 13 months. I can't remember exactly where I got the info (I can tell you with certainty that it was not from Intuit), but it has to do with the fact that we use a third-party (i.e. - QuickBooks) to interact with EFTPS. Once I was told this, I started setting reminders to do this for my clients, because the only notice you get from QB is that your tax deposit was rejected.
Can give me those phone numbers as I am having the same problem not getting Accepted Tax Return emails from my 940 & 941 e-Files. I have called support twice and get stupid answers, first answer "IRS is closed." Yeah right. Second answer, it will come today, it hasn't and I am not hopeful. I know my EFPTS password is correct because we also e-file the 941 withholding every weekly payroll. SO the EFPTS password is not the issue. I think as was stated in previous posts it is stuck in Intuit somewhere. This is SO frustrating.
I have done this and it is still not working. Happening in multiple client accounts. Did this get resolved for anyone? I am making payments directly in EFTPS in the meantime but it is super annoying.
1. Log into EFTPS and change your password on a day that you need to send a payment from QBDT.
2. Use a password that is exactly 12 digits long.
3. Log out of EFTPS and log back in to ensure that you have the password correct and the change took place.
4. Log into QB and send the payment. Change the password at the saved password screen.
5. Set a reminder to change it again in 1 year.
6. Check email to ensure that the payment is accepted.
I've done this dozens of times. Sometimes, I send a $1 payment just to get it changed when I need it changed, between payment cycles. Then I short the next payment by $1.
Thank you. I think I'm getting locked out. I'm going to wait and retry and see if that fixes it.
Thank you for your post.
@KimW60 The IRS actually is "closed". Electronic filing is turned off currently for annual maintenance. Should be on next week.
I've done exactly what you've stated we should do. I was told the reason my 941 qtr 4 2021 hasn't been submitted to the agency yet, is because it needs approval in EFTPS....can you explain this?
Hi there, ucceldon.
It seems that you've posted similar questions. My colleague already shared their response on the other thread. You can view their answer through this link:
You can also check this article for more information on how you can check the status of your filed forms: Check e-file or e-pay status.
I'll be around if there's anything that I can help with. Keep safe!
I never had this issue until January. I did reset my EFTPS password, still rejected. I called and talked to 2 QB reps and not resolved. I tried this week to send my 941 payment thru QB and was rejected again!
Today I reset my password for EFTPS to 14 characters as suggested, (12 before).
Now I will manually AGAIN pay my 941 directly to IRS!!
I hope this issue gets resolved, I am paying for a payroll service annually!
Changed my EFTPS internet password to 14 characters and QBPayroll FINALLY is working. Thanks all!!
Yes-and no one can tell me how to re-insert my pin and pasword
I'm here to make sure you're able to enter the pin and password, @Mark.
To get started, let's ensure that you Update your QuickBooks to the latest release and download the latest tax table updates. This is to avoid any issue upon entering the pin and password.
Then, you can now enter the 4-digit EFTPS PIN and password when processing e-pay in QuickBooks Desktop.
Here's how:
Also, when making tax payments in QuickBooks, you'll be given an option to save your EFTPS password. QuickBooks will remember the information the next time you make a tax payment.
If you need a reference, you can check these articles:
I've also included an article that will help you handle rejected e-payments and e-filed forms in QuickBooks Desktop: Handle rejected tax liability payments.

OMG, Another rejected deposit from October 2022. I continue to experience this issue and just received another notice about a client - Just received an approved abatement for the same issue last July. Thankfully IRS waived the penalty on that one. I've checked emails for rejects for this client. Found nothing. I started diverting the reject emails to a designated folder, no reject for this client. This year I even routinely changed all EFTPS passwords December/January to prevent the expired password issue.
The only way I know a deposit has rejected is actually open the payment in the check register. The program, no matter which client, continue to crash when I attempt to access via the E Payments tab in the employee center.
I'll be begging the IRS for mercy once again. However, I think I really need to get on a new payroll provider for my clients.
If it is the same issue I had. It was because the password has to be exactly 12 characters long on the EFTPS website and quickbooks.
Here's the thing though. The password worked FINE just now when I signed into the EFTPS website. It is the same password I've used since January 2021 when I changed due to the last round of rejected passwords. Had another client with another notice their 940 payment made back in April 2021 rejected. Both times I've gone through all my emails, no email. I've tried accessing the epayments tab in the Payroll center and the program still crashes each time no matter which client QB file I'm trying to access. I've done screen shots and will be requesting abatement - the one is only 21 cents so I won't bother but still my clients are losing faith in me, and at this point I'm losing faith in myself thinking I failed to do something. But now I'm 100% convinced this is not me it's the program, set-up, bug, whatever you wish to call it. Sucking time and energy, AND money.
