I completely agree with you. Sometimes it takes about five minutes to open the page and read the information. I suggest to make verification at will, with a possibility of disabling of function.

The two-two-factor authentication is an additional layer that strengthens the security of your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. If this feature doesn't work for your business, then you have the option to turn it off.
Here's what you'll need to do if you're using the same phone number:
If you're using a different phone number, you'll need first to update your phone number so you can log in to the account. Once done, you can now turn off the two-step verification.

Is it possible to disable verification in part? That is to leave it on separate pages of a site?

Thanks for coming back to the Community, @IslaDuffy.
Right now, disabling the multi-factor verification in the separate pages of a site is unavailable. You can turn it off by going to the Intuit Account Manager, as my colleague mentioned above.

This is for two-step verification, not multi-factor verification. Logging into the Intuit account, there is nothing under sign in and security that references multi-factor authentication. How can we turn this off. This just started happening to me in 2021 and I'm required to authenticate every time I log in. It takes several minutes to get the verification code.

The steps for disabling two-steps verification/multi-factor authentication are the same. By logging in to your Intuit account, you should see the option there.
Please see attached screenshots for your visual reference:
Please let me know if you need anything else.
Mine two-factor is already off (apparently as default) yet still have multi-factor ID and have to pick out chimneys and get a text just because I left my desk for a half hour. It's ridiculous - I work from home! No one is logging in as me, and it takes time, multiple "asks" for a text, and makes me regret my new QB account - which is only 2 days old. My husband uses QB Online for our other businesses and he does NOT have to do this... I just asked him. There is no reason that my home computer cannot be authenticated ONCE. Even my bank does that!
I can't even sign in to switch off this stupid feature. I want a choice about whether I have to use this stupid method to sign in to my bookwork. I've got enough work to do without this making my life more complicated in a completely unnecessary way. Don't make us fight for the ability to disable this feature, please, if we want to use it, let us know that we have that option and those of us who want it can switch it on, those of us who don't can leave it off. Please make it simple as even now I can't sign into my account because I don't get texts and I don't get emails. Even if there's something wrong at my end, this verification is flawed!
Mine says it's turned off, but it's definitely turned on. Also, I tried to verify my mobile number, just in case that's causing issues, and nothing gets sent to me. Definitely some problems since this annoying feature appeared.
Hi claudiascafe!
I understand that you want an option to either turn off the verification when you log in or not.
As mentioned by my colleague, this method helps in protecting your data by making sure it's really you who access it. You'll want to check this link for more info: Verify your account with multi-factor authentication. This will also explain the difference between multi-factor authentication and two-step verification.
I'll let our engineers know about this. They may add more options in verifying your account.
I'll be here if you need more help. Keep your posts coming.
Mine also says it is turned off and yet it is still requiring the 2 FA. I turned it on and turned it off again and no luck. I never even turned if on previously and am the only user yet it turned itself on! I want this off ASAP.
Thank you for following up with us, @jskish.
I understand that some users aren't comfortable with multi-factor authentication. I'll also be sending the information to our developer team so they'll be aware of the feature needed. On the other hand, I would recommend checking out with our Support Team. This way, they can review the security settings of your account. Moreover, they can see why turning off the features is still requiring you with the two-step verification process.

Can someone please do something about this? I use multiple machines/devices to access my account. Every time I log in I have to go through the entire process to verify that I am not a robot by mouse clicking multiple images (which is a royal pain for someone who prefers not use a mouse) and then wait for a text or email which I then have to manually type into a text box. And God forbid you don't receive the text or mistype something and have to go through the entire process again. Does anyone implementing these solutions actually work with them? Truly horrible user experience.
This process is far and away what I despise most about using Quickbooks Online.
I had spoken with someone weeks ago when this first started. After about 30 minutes and several times being placed on hold, I was told this is just the default and there is nothing that can done! Gotta be kidding me.
Please speak to the engineers and make this problem prioritized. As many have said before, 2-step verification IS NOT the same as multi-factor verification. Despite 2-step verification being OFF on our acct, I still have to retrieve a code from my phone or email, multiple times a day. QB MUST address this inconvenience and include a disability option.
Hello there, AAgarage.
Two-factor authentication refers specifically and exclusively to authentication mechanisms where the two authentication elements fall under different categories with respect to “something you have”, “something you are”, and “something you know”.
A good example of this is the two-step authentication required by Gmail. After providing the password you’ve memorized, you’re required to also provide the one-time password displayed on your phone. While the phone may appear to be “something you have”, from a security perspective it’s still “something you know”
Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application, online account, or a VPN.
To do that:
Know that you have to use the Authenticator app to create your verification codes. Get the iPhone version at the App Store or the Android version through Google Play. Google Authenticator isn't available for Windows phones.
To disable Google Authenticator, simply disable the two-step verification feature.
For additional reference, I've attached a link you can use to learn about the QuickBooks multi-factor authentication: Verify your account with multi-factor authentication.

I don't think you are understanding the customer's posts. Therefore, none of the solutions proposed by Intuit staff have worked.
We don't want two-factor authentication. Two-factor authentication is already turned off. We don't want multi-factor authentication, but do not know how to turn it off.
This problem occurs (in my account) only in the browser version, not in the (soon-to-be orphaned) app.
How do we turn off multi-factor authentication, when the two-factor authentication is already turned off? Turning two-factor authentication on, then off again does not work to stop multi-factor authentication.
Quickbooks must stop changing customer's account settings without their permission.
I appreciate you reaching out to us, tkphi.
Let me share some insights about the multi-factor verification.
The Multi-factor is a security enhancement on top of the usual password requirement. You can receive the security code via your email or through your mobile device. Whereas the two-step verification will only give you the option for voice call and text in receiving the code.
Now to disable the multi-factor verification code, we’ll need to enable the two-steps verification code. Let me show you how.
You can visit our managing your Intuit Account page for more information.
If you need further assistance, just drop a message in the comment section. I'll be happier to help. Have a nice day!
I wrote that I had tried this solution, and it did not work. I tried it again, logging out between each step. It doesn't work. Turning two-step authentication merely toggles between two-step andf multi-step authentication.
I want NEITHER two-step NOR multi-step authentication. Turn them both off!
I agree, 2-Step verification is already disabled yet my team is still being asked to verify by text or call. No option for email or to turn off.
Please resolve this issue.
I can't sign in to change the verification steps because I can't get a text message with the code that allows me to sign in.

Thanks for joining in this conversation, @Searp.
I'll help you figure this out so you'll able to turn off the verification in QuickBooks Online as soon as possible.
Make sure that your phone number is updated or accessible. This way, you'll get a text message with the code that allows you to sign in within 2-3 mins.
If it's outdated, I'd recommend communicating with our Customer Care Team using our sample account. They have available tools to update your phone number and guide you further in turning off the verification. You can follow either the steps below or the instructions outlined by my colleague Angelyn_T above.
Please call them within business hours to ensure we cater to your concern quickly.
After that, you'll able to log in with your account quickly without entering the verification code.
Feel free to visit these links under on how to renew phone numbers and other business information.
Keep me posted if you need further assistance about verification steps or how the call goes. Support is just one click away. Take care.
