Track expenses for vehicles in QuickBooks Self-Employed

Use more than one vehicle for your business? Now you can track miles and match expenses for each vehicle in QuickBooks Self-Employed, which helps you get the max deduction and keep your books organized for tax season.
If you export your business info to TurboTax, it will use your info to help you choose the best option: the standard mileage deduction or actual expense deductions.
Add vehicles to track
You can add all the vehicles you use for work to track your mileage and expenses.
- Go to Miles.
- Select Manage vehicles.
- Select Add vehicle when the side panel appears.
- Add all the vehicles you use for work.
- Select Save.
Assign expenses to vehicles
In addition to tracking your mileage, when you have expenses that are categorized as vehicle transactions (Gas & Fuel, Insurance, etc.), you need to assign them to a specific vehicle.
- Go to Transactions. Vehicle transactions that don't have a vehicle assigned yet are labeled Unassigned.
- Select a transaction that is a vehicle expense. The transaction will have a Vehicle dropdown in the expanded view.
- From the Vehicle dropdown, choose a vehicle.
- Select Save.
If you want to assign transactions in bulk:
- Go to Transactions.
- Select the checkbox for each transaction you want to assign to a vehicle.
- Select the vehicle icon .
- Choose a vehicle name from the dropdown.
- Select Apply.
Get a list of your expenses by vehicle
You may want to see a list of expenses by vehicle to make sure everything is assigned correctly. You can also see a list of transactions that aren't assigned to a vehicle yet.
- Go to Transactions.
- In the Vehicles: All dropdown, choose a vehicle name or choose Vehicles: Unassigned.
- A list of your vehicle transactions will appear.
