well then offer a LIFETIME subscription, this is horrible what Intuit is doing to it long time loyal customers!!!
Thanks Asia, pm sent
It doesn't sound like you use Online Banking to sync your bank accounts with QBs. But keep in mind if you want to do this in the future, all of the QB versions to date have only been good for 3 years *IF* you do use Online Banking. Otherwise they will keep working until you OS (Windows or Mac) will not run the program.
If you are thinking about using Online Banking, which is a great time saver if you have a lot of checks/transactions to reconcile, remember that QB2021 will stop working with the Banks in 2 years. (Released in 2021 + 3yrs = 2023). At that point you will have to go to a subscription.
I'm not a fan of subscription software, but Microsoft, Adobe and others switched over a few years ago. It is the future of software, regretfully. But my point is that if the QB2021 is not drastically discounted, then think of the total cost of that purchase for a couple of years and then having to go to the subscription. Is it better to just switch now? It may not be, I'm just saying to look long term.
I don't use QB for payroll or online banking downloads. I use it once in a blue moon to backup a client's data to review for adjustments. My client has their own version of 2021, which they purchased late 2020 so they were not required to pay for an annual subscription. They do not use it for online banking or payroll either.
I'm still using Microsoft Office from years ago, which still works well, so I have no need for their subscription software. All of my older versions of software (Microsoft, Adobe, QB, etc) all work perfectly without upgrading to the most recent version or being FORCED to pay for subscriptions. All those "it's only $5/mo, it's only $10/mo, etc" add up to A LOT of dollars a month eventually that consumers should not be forced to pay.
We replied your PM. Hope it helps.
Yes, I know that they do not need to.
I am the one that might need to review their data on my computer. I bought the 2021 version many months ago not realizing that it had become an annual subscription. It is MY version that I am complaining about the annual subscription ENFORCEMENT by Quickbooks.
I've seen a few posts online that you could contact QB and still get a one-time license but I've called Sales several times and not even one individual had an understanding of what I was saying.

I've already called "support" 3 times. They are only interested in signing me up for 2022 or telling me there is NO resolution to my problem.
I realized things have changed a lot nowadays and I probably won't be able to find a Quickbooks desktop version without having to pay a subscription each year. I can find a Desktop Pro Plus 2022 from Costco, Staples, Bjs for a 12 months subscription + 3 months free, my question is that can desktop products continue to support multiple company files? I am using an old QB desktop version that is almost 10 years old. Now I need to upgrade my PC and need a new software to work with windows 11. I don't currently use banking products or payrolls, only need it to track income/expenses and generate balance sheet and income statement. But I need multiple company files, although each company only a few transactions a month. Thanks!
Being able to use multiple companies in QuickBooks is our top priority! Let me provide you with some information about this, JCAcctx.
In QuickBooks Desktop, you can have as many companies as you like. You'll want to create a new company file and use your business information. To do this, follow the steps below:
Please know that with the old version that you're using, you won't be able to subscribe to live technical support or any of the other Intuit services that can be integrated with QuickBooks Desktop. You'll want to upgrade to the latest supported versions to receive the latest security patches and updates.
I've also added this link to know how business is doing with an income statement: Income Statement - Profit And Loss Statement Template.
Reach out to us if you have any questions about your subscription. We'll be here to help you.
Yes, QBDT still supports multiple Company Files. (QB Online is the one you need a subscription for each.)
If you're using something like QBDT2012, then you may need Supports help to bring it up to QB2022. It is possible, but you'll need to convert to a couple of versions in between 2012 and 2022 to make sure your file will run in QB2022.
You might also ask your Accountant (or multiple Accountants). They often keep multiple versions of QBs because they have clients with multiple versions. If you find one that still has them loaded on their machine, you may be able to get them to update the company file for a small fee. Or have them do your taxes this year and ask them to do it as part of the process.
You can still purchase a one time license for QBD 2021 from several partners.
QBD doesn't run on Win 11 natively at this time. If you are using a pre-installed Win 11 on your new machine, consider to clean install Win 10 with the same OEM license you received for Win 11. You can upgrade it later when the time is come. I expected we should wait until June at the earliest time to receive any update regarding Win 11 or IE 11.
Actually, you probably do not need to downgrade from Win11 to Win10... If you're concerned or have issues, just run QBDT in Win10 Compatibility Mode.
I was going to upgrade, but will NOT as there are only subscription options. Guess it's 2019 until Intuit changes policy or I can find an alternative.
Software technical support has been a useless time waster for the last decade, and a subscription is just Intuit collecting rent on a product I've bought repeatedly with very little innovation for the last 20 years.
My upgrade cycle is every 2-4 years, not annual.
Intuit: Make a product worth paying for an upgrade, or provide technical support that makes a subscription worth it, or F off.
Intuit remains a scourge on accounting.
You can still buy the one time license for QBD 2021. If you prefer to use QBD 2022, you can buy the one time license for QBD 2022 Premier Accountant edition. You can only buy the one time license of those editions from several partners.
Where to find those partners? I tried google nothing is 2021, all 2022 with subscription. Also, what’s QBD Premier Account edition? Does that cost $900? I saw some websites say accountant edition needs a Proadvisor account which is $450/year. I just want to have access to my company files as long as I want and not have to pay annually just to have access to the files. I also need multiple companies, although each company has quite small numbers of transactions. Thanks!
Contact us in private for details. We can help to provide those licenses.
QBD (Premier) Accountant edition with the one time license doesn't need to subscribe as ProAdvisor.

This is why I'm moving everything to Freeware platforms, Linux, open office, gimp, and will find a optio. To leave quickbooks after I do my taxes. They jumped the shark. I've been a customer for a decade. They lost me with the subscription bs and holding my reciepts hostage. Namaste.
@Pete_Mc Sorry you are wrong on your last point on pricing!
They making this just as expensive as purchasing a stand-alone copy.
I too can't fathom doing this every year! I have clients that need a copy on their end to review financials and telling them they have to pay $350/year just do do basic stuff and then I too must pay $350/year for my copy... that's just STUPID. Come on Intuit, hope you are reading these posts!
@cgraytn Their PRICING model needs to change big time if they expect their loyal customers of the desktop version to stay with them! There is no way they can expect us to pay $350/year (when most of us have been doing that every 2-3 years)... If they are going to suck us into their stupid subscription plan than that pricing needs to come down to $150/year!
This is a joke Intuit... hope someone is still reading these!
@motch6 No disagreement from me.
That's why I see a lot of people bailing on QBs. There are discounts from from various sources, but even then the price is getting why out of hand. Originally it looked like the annual fee would be about 1/3 of the stand-alone version. And if you wanted the online services, you had to update about every three years anyway.
That made a lot of sense because everyone should, in theory, always be working with the latest version. So the scripts the Support people read would actually match what you had on your screen. And if issues (aka BUGs) were found or great new Feature Requests were added, they could easily be addressed without the users having to go by a new version.
But as usual, the people making the decisions are not listening to the customers. Well, maybe that's not true because those customers that don't agree with the pricing are no longer customers.... :)
"ou can only buy the one time license of those editions from several partners.
How can we find those partners?
