Disable Intuit Data Protect

If you are having any problems with Intuit Data Protect, please see our Troubleshoot Common Intuit Data Protect (IDP) Problems article for help to get you back up and running.
If you do not use Intuit Data Protect and wants to remove it from your computer, you may do so by disabling the service. Disabling Intuit Data Protect will also resolve issues such as:
- IDP window that continues to launch even when it is not in use
- IDP that needs to be transferred to another host computer
Disable or remove Intuit Data Protect
Ensure that QuickBooks and Intuit Data Protect are updated to the most recent release before performing the steps provided.
- To update QuickBooks, go to: http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/Support/ProductUpdates.aspx
- To update Intuit Data Protect, go to: Verify you have the latest update for Intuit Data Protect
Note: If you have an active subscription to IDP or other QuickBooks products bundled with Intuit Data protect, see the steps below titled "Active Subscriptions". Otherwise, continue with the following:
- Remove Intuit Data Protect from the Startup folder.
- Windows 10
- Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
- Right-click Intuit Data Protect and click Delete.
- Windows 10
- Stop all IDP processes.
- Open Task Manager.
- Go to the Processes tab and find the following processes:
- IntuitDataProtect.exe
- IBUEngHost.exe
- QBIDPServices.exe
- Click the processes one by one and click End Process.
- Stop all IDP services
- Windows 10
- Press Windows+R to open the Run dialog.
- Type services.msc.
- The Services window will open.
- Find QBIDPService.exe and double click on the service.
- Under Service status section, click Stop. From the Startup type drop-down box, select Disabled.
- Windows 10
- Rename the Intuit Data Protect folder
- Go to: C:\Users\(Windows Username)\AppData\Local\Intuit\Intuit Data ProtectNote: Windows Username is the name of the windows user currently logged in to the computer.
- Find and right-click the folder.
- Select Rename. You may add the word "Old" as you rename the folder.
- Restart the computer. Intuit Data Protect should no longer launch or you may start the process of transferring IDP to another computer.
Active Subscriptions
If you have an active subscription to Intuit Data Protect or have bundled subscriptions such as QuickBooks Plus or QuickBooks Enterprise, try the following:
- From the System Tray, right-click Intuit Data Protect and select About Intuit Data Protect.
- The About Intuit Data Protect window opens. Press CTRL+F2 simultaneously to open the IDP Diagnostic tool.
- Click Log out.
