My banking menu is missing the receipts tab. How do I get the receipts tab to show up?

I'm trying to follow these directions but the Receipts tab is not there...
Step 1: Add receipts
Go to the Banking menu and select the Receipts tab.
Drag and drop receipts directly into QuickBooks Online, or select Browse to upload them. You can also email receipts to QuickBooks and they’ll show up here as well. You can use PDFs, images (jpeg, jpg, gif, or png), or info in an email.

My banking menu is missing the receipts tab. How do I get the receipts tab to show up?

Hi there, succulentbar.

There is no Receipt tab in the Banking menu. Though, you can select and click a transaction in the For Review tab and click Add attachment (see attached screenshot) to add a receipt.

You can also use the mobile app receipt scanner or save them as attachments when recording transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Please visit these guide articles about saving receipts and QuickBooks attachments for more details:

Add another reply below if you have follow-up questions. I'd be glad to help you again.

@succulentbar

They have Add Attachment (paper clip icon) under Banking/For Review tab.

Just click transaction row, you should see "Add Attachment" link to attach the backup receipt.

Where do you see these directions? This is not for QBO, especially "You can also email receipts to QuickBooks ";  maybe this is QBSE?  Or is it Bll Pay?

My banking menu is missing the receipts tab. How do I get the receipts tab to show up?

Thanks JenoP!  Yes the only way I found to add a receipt to a transaction within QBO was using the For Review tab and click Add attachment (see attached screenshot) to add a receipt, as you suggest.

However, when in QBO I searched "add receipt to transaction" and it gave me the following article.  I cannot locate a Receipts Tab option in QBO as it instructs me to do.  Is this for QBO or a different product?

Manage your receipts in the Receipts tab

Learn how to use the Receipts tab to enter, attach, and track your expense receipts.

After you select the Banking menu you’ll see the Receipts tab. This is where you can manage your expense receipts all in one place.

Step 1: Add receipts
  1. Go to the Banking menu and select the Receipts tab.
  2. Drag and drop receipts directly into QuickBooks Online, or select Browse to upload them. You can also email receipts to QuickBooks and they’ll show up here as well. You can use PDFs, images (jpeg, jpg, gif, or png), or info in an email.

Note: You can also use the QuickBooks Online app to scan receipts. However, they won’t show up in the Receipts tab. You’ll simply attach them to an existing transaction.

Step 2: Review, edit, or match receipts

Once your receipt is in QuickBooks, it will show up under For Review in the Receipts tab. From here you can select the row to have a side-by-side view of the receipt you sent and the data we extracted. You can also:

  • Select Review to edit the extracted information for the receipt. If there are multiple matches, selecting Review will allow you to choose the match you want.
  • Select Add if you want to create a new expense in QuickBooks with the receipt attached.
  • Select Match if you’re ready to match the entry with an existing record in QuickBooks. Note that if an imported banking transaction and a receipt are both in For Review, QuickBooks won’t suggest a match until you select Add for one of them.

Also, I have searched high and low for the Receipt Scanner in the Quickbooks app on iOS and cannot locate it.  Is there an article/video/post that shows step by step instructions on how to access this feature and then scan a receipt using the app?  Note: The video in the bottom of page https://quickbooks.intuit.com/features/receipts/ does not work. I get this error.

My banking menu is missing the receipts tab. How do I get the receipts tab to show up?

Hi Malcolm,

I found the instructions by clicking the help button and searching "add receipt to transaction" all while being logged into my QBO account.  The first answer provided was the following article.  If this is not applicable then why is it provided as an answer?  Is this not for QBO?

Manage your receipts in the Receipts tab

  • Select Match if you’re ready to match the entry with an existing record in QuickBooks. Note that if an imported banking transaction and a receipt are both in For Review, QuickBooks won’t suggest a match until you select Add for one of them.

Learn more about reviewing bank transactions.

Optional: Add a class or location

If you have QuickBooks Online Plus or Advanced, you might use class and location tracking. For now, you’ll need to add or match the receipt first. Then, locate the record under Recent Transactions or in the Reviewed tab. Once you find it, add the class or location manually. Learn more about class and location tracking.

My banking menu is missing the receipts tab. How do I get the receipts tab to show up?

I've got information about the Receipts tab on the Banking page, succulentbar.

Currently, this is not available to all QuickBooks Online accounts, but eventually, it will. In the meantime, we suggest to use the Add attachment option as pointed out by JenoP.

Lastly, thanks for sharing your experience with us. I encourage you to keep on using this space to search for information about QuickBooks.

Good question.

It looks like a new feature that has not yet been implemented.  They really should not activate the help article until it is.

Anyhow it does look like a great feature.

When will it be available here?  I have a client that has an Australian version and it is available on that one but not the US version.  They really want it in the US version as well

Trying this again.  I have a client that states their Australian sister company has that capability.  Why doesn't the US?  Will it be available soon?

Hi Claire!

Thank you for reaching out to us here on the Community page.

The Receipts tab is now being rolled out with the US version of QuickBooks Online (QBO). You can either click on the Transactions or Banking menu at the left pane.

I've added this screenshot for your visual reference.

If you don't see the tab on your QBO account, I recommend logging out and log back into QuickBooks to refresh the page. Moreover, you can access QuickBooks using a private browser to narrow down the result. This browser prevents any virus infections that can cause unexpected behavior when using QuickBooks.

To save you time, use either of these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Safari 11 or newer: ⌘ Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl Shift P

If it works fine, go back to your original browser and clear its cache to start fresh. Besides, you can log in to your account using another supported and up-to-date browser.

I've also added this article for more hints about managing receipts in QuickBooks Online.

If the same thing happens, I suggest reaching out to our Support Team. This way, a representative can check and review your account further. To contact support:

  1. Open your QuickBooks Online account, then go to the (?) Help icon.
  2. Choose the Talk to a human option (then type it again when prompted).
  3. When asked by the bot, enter a short description of your concern.
  4. Select I still need a human.
  5. Proceed with Contact us.
  6. Click Let’s talk, then choose either Get a call or Start messaging

For the support's business hours, I encourage checking out the details from this link.

Please feel free to get back to me here if you have any additional questions with your receipts. I always have your back. Thanks for dropping in, and cheers for more success!

Thank you for joining the thread, @kdurgaprasad.

What you said is correct. The Receipts tab is unavailable to the QuickBooks Online (QBO) India version. What you can do is upload bank transactions by hand. Follow the steps in this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online

I also recommend reconciling your bank accounts once a month. This way, it's easier for you to spot issues and correct them. See this article for the steps: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online

Post a reply in the comments below if you have other questions about the Banking tab. I'll be around to help you out. Enjoy the rest of the day!

Hi, kkdefi.

I'm here to help you bring those bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Manually updating your bank account in QuickBooks Online (QBO) helps refresh the connection between your bank and QuickBooks so transactions will show up.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Banking tab.
  2. Choose the bank account and click Update.
  3. If prompted, enter your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) credentials and tap Continue update.
