Frequently asked questions

16% of employees admit to buddy punching

Buddy punching occurs when one employee asks another employee to clock in on their behalf—usually when an employee is absent or running late. In more extreme cases, it happens so employees can take entire days off work or accrue extra overtime. In fact, TSheets by QuickBooks found that 16% of employees admitted to clocking in for a colleague.** The survey also found that most common mistake people make is to add an extra 15 minutes to their timesheets.

Buddy punching costs businesses $373 million a year

Taking those statistics from the TSheets survey and combining them with data published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor indicates indicates buddy punching adds more than $373 million to the annual payroll bill.
With “old school” punch time clocks or outdated paper timesheets, it’s much easier for an employee to simply stamp their “buddy’s” time card. But facial recognition can help reduce time theft and requires no additional hardware.
