Merge duplicate customers in QuickBooks Online
by Intuit•38• Updated 1 month ago
Merge any customer profiles you have accidentally duplicated into a single profile. This deletes one profile and moves their existing data into the profile you want to keep.

Prerequisites
Check that neither customer being merged has sub-customers before merging them. If they do, change their sub-customers into regular customers first.
Merge two customers together
- Go to Sales and select Customers (Take me there).
- Select and open the customer profile you want to keep.
- Copy the Customer display name field.
- Select and open the customer profile you don’t want to keep.
- Select Edit.
- In the Customer display name field, paste the name of the duplicate customer profile you want to keep. The names need to match exactly.
Note: If this is a sub-customer of a parent customer, select the Is a sub-customer checkbox. Then, enter the name of the parent customer. - Select Save.
- When asked if you want to merge the two profiles, select Yes.
The merged customer is deleted from your records and their transactions added to the other profile’s transaction history.
Note: Like all deleted customers, the merged customer is saved as inactive. Their transaction history will be empty even if you make them active again. Learn how.
