Learn how to update your Intuit account’s security settings and protect your personal and financial info
Keep your security settings up to date to protect sensitive financial and personal doubt. Keep them up-to-date when you change your personal information or security settings. This will prevent someone from getting into your account without your permission.
Security settings you can change
To change your account’s security settings, sign in to your account.
- Sign in to your Intuit account (Take me there).
- Select Sign in & security.
Change how Intuit contacts and identifies you
You can change your User ID, email address, and phone number. Intuit uses phone number and email address to send you security and account notifications, so keep them up to date. You’ll also need your email address and phone number to recover your account if you can’t log in.
Password
Your password is the basic way to log in to your Intuit account.
To keep your account secure, update your password regularly. Strong passwords usually include a mix of upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols.
Authenticator
Make your account more secure by adding an authenticator to your sign-in process. Once you’ve connected to an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator, you’ll need a one-use code created by the app to sign in along with your password.
- Authenticator codes change frequently, so they’re more secure than only using a password or SMS-based authentication.
- You don’t need to be online to generate a one-time code.
- You can generate codes for multiple accounts with one authenticator app, securing more than one account at once.
2-step verification
When you turn this on, you’ll need to enter a code sent to your phone or email after you enter your password to sign in. This makes it much harder for others to get into your account, even if they know your account name.
To keep your account safe, never provide this code to anyone else. Intuit will never ask for this code.
Passkeys
When you turn this on, instead of a password, you’ll provide an alternative security method provided through another site or app to sign in. These are both faster and more user-friendly than traditional passwords, and resistant to phishing attempts. Examples include a PIN, special pattern, or biometric information such as a face or fingerprint.
Before using passkeys, you’ll need to register with another web or app that provides it.
To turn off all device-based sign-in options, for Device sign-in select Turn off for all devices. For example, turn off device-based sign-in options if a device was lost or stolen, or if someone has access to biometric data used to sign in that shouldn’t be able to access it.
Monitor your account activity
You can see which devices and locations have recently accessed your account. Report any suspicious activity to make sure that no one can access your account but you.
If something doesn’t look right, change your password.
