
Export accountant's changes to a client file

In QuickBooks Desktop, bookkeepers export their work as an Accountant's Changes file (.QBY) to send to a client. This file lets the client to import and apply all corrections to their company file. You can send this change file from QuickBooks using the Accountant's Copy File Transfer (ACFT) service. You can also save it and send it through other ways.
This article is for bookkeepers who are sending changes to their clients using QuickBooks Desktop.
Export changes for a client
Follow these steps to create the Accountant's Changes file (.QBY) from your client's Accountant's Copy.
- From File, select Send Company File.
- Select Accountant's Copy, then select View/Export Changes for Client.
- (Optional) To review a detailed list of your changes, select the + icon next to a category. You can save or print a copy for your records by selecting Save as PDF or Print.
After reviewing the changes, choose one of the following methods to create and deliver the file.
Option 1: Send the file using ACFT
This method sends an email to your client with a link to download the change file directly from our secure servers.
- Select Send Changes to Client.
- Enter your client's email address, your name, and your email address in the appropriate fields.
- (Optional) Select the Notify me when the client imports the changes check box if you want to receive an email confirmation.
- Select Send.
Option 2: Save the file locally
This method saves the Accountant's Changes file (.QBY) to your computer. You can then attach it to an email, or share it via a secure online storage service.
- Select Create Change File.
- Choose a location on your computer to save the file. Make sure the file name doesn't contain an asterisk (*).
- Select Save.
- Select OK. You can now send the saved .QBY file to your client.
