Learn how to transition from Classic to Modern View reports in QuickBooks Online, Intuit Accountant Suite (IAS), and Intuit Enterprise Suite.

Classic View reports have moved to Modern View, but our data and saved reports came with you automatically. Nothing was lost, and no action was needed on your end. Here's everything you need to know about the change and what comes next.

Why we're moving to Modern reports

Classic reports have been a reliable part of QuickBooks for years. But as your business grows, your reporting tools need to grow with you.

Modern reports are built on a new foundation that lets us:

  • Add new features faster.

  • Handle larger amounts of data without slowing you down.

  • Give you clearer insights right where you need them, like dashboard KPIs.

What stays the same and what’s new

Your data doesn't change. Modern reports show the same information as Classic, with all the tools you count on today which includes:

  • Reporting periods.

  • Filters.

  • Accounting methods.

  • Display options.

  • Comparisons.

  • Show or hide active or non-zero-value rows and columns.

And with Modern View, you get more of the following:

  • Add almost any attribute as a column.

  • Group and pivot data for deeper analysis.

  • View built-in charts alongside your numbers.

  • Customize the look with banded rows, color-coded columns, and flexible gridlines.

  • Export to Excel with live formulas intact for calculated rows and columns.
Note: Some visual options are only available in higher plans, like QuickBooks Online Advanced and Intuit Enterprise Suite.

Recent improvements to Modern reports

Modern View has been updated based on real feedback from accountants and small businesses. Here's what's better:

  • Cleaner formatting: Reports like General Ledger and Trial Balance now follow standard accounting order (Assets, Liabilities, Equity, Income, and Expenses).

  • Smarter defaults: Inactive and zero-balance accounts are hidden by default so your reports stay focused. You can always adjust filters to bring them back.

  • Faster customization: Set your filters, columns, and groupings all at once, then run the report. No need to apply changes one at a time.

  • Accurate sorting: When you group by customers, vendors, accounts, or other attributes, results sort correctly every time.

  • Auto-refresh: Edit a transaction from a drill-down and the report updates automatically.

  • Easier navigation: Scroll the full page instead of a small box, and use Ctrl+F (or Command+F on Mac) to search within longer reports.

  • Persistent settings: Your customizations, including drill-downs, stay exactly where you left them, even after a page reloads.
