System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2024

QuickBooks Desktop 2024 requires a 64-bit Windows operating system and specific hardware specifications to run efficiently. To ensure the best performance and data security, use a supported version of Windows, such as Windows 11 or Windows Server 2022, installed natively on your computer.

Operating system requirements

QuickBooks Desktop 2024 requires a 64-bit Windows operating system; 32-bit is not supported. Click here to determine if your operating system is 64-bit.

QuickBooks Desktop 2024 is compatible with the following operating systems.

Supported Windows versions

• Windows 11, 64-bit, natively installed
• Windows Server 2022, Standard and Essentials
• Windows Server 2019, Standard and Essentials
• Windows Server 2016, Standard and Essentials

Note: QuickBooks requires you to use Windows natively. Linux, Windows 10 S Mode, emulators, and virtual environments are not supported.

Windows 10 support

Microsoft will stop providing security updates and support for Windows 10 after October 14, 2025. While you can currently install QuickBooks 2024 on Windows 10, we highly recommend upgrading to a supported Windows version to keep your data secure.

Database servers

For database servers, you must use a natively installed version of Windows:

• Windows Server 2022, Standard and Essentials
• Windows Server 2019, Standard and Essentials
• Windows Server 2016, Standard and Essentials

Hardware requirements

Your workstation and server must meet these minimum specifications.

Processor

Requirement: 2.4 GHz minimum

Note: QuickBooks requires a computer with an x86 processor (Intel or AMD). It does not work with ARM processors often found in tablets or thin clients. We do not support virtualization or emulation on ARM processors.

RAM (Memory)

• Workstation: 8 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended
• Server:
  • 1–5 Users: 8 GB
  • 10 Users: 12 GB
  • 15 Users: 16 GB
  • 20+ Users: 20+ GB

Disk space

• QuickBooks Desktop: 2.5 GB of disk space (additional space required for data files).
• Additional software: Microsoft .NET 4.8 Runtime (60 MB, included with installation files).
• Intuit Data Protect: Requires a minimum of 4.0 GB RAM and twice the size of the largest file set to backup plus 100 MB (or twice the size to restore). This space is only required from the work folder LocalApplicationData+"Intuit\Intuit Data Protect".

Note: Store your QuickBooks data file on a solid-state drive (SSD) for the best performance.

Screen resolution

• Display optimized for 1280 x 1024 resolution or higher.
• Supports up to 2 extended monitors.
• Optimized for the Default DPI setting for your computer.

Optical drive

• 4X DVD-ROM drive is required for physical CD installations.

Software requirements

QuickBooks integrates with various apps and software.

Browser

• Internet access and Google Chrome are required.
• Payroll and other online features and services require Internet access with at least a 56 Kbps connection speed (1 Mbps recommended).

QuickBooks Mac Plus 2024 requirements

If you use QuickBooks Mac Plus 2024, your system must meet these specific requirements.

Minimum system requirements

• Operating System: Mac OS X v12.0 (Monterey) or later.
• Processor: Intel or Apple CPU hardware.
• Server Processor (Multi-user): Intel Core 2 Duo or higher.
• RAM: 2 GB minimum (4 GB recommended).
• Storage: 250 MB available storage.
• Internet: Connection required
• Printer: Macintosh-compatible printer for invoices, checks, deposit slips, lists, purchase orders, mailing labels, reports, or graphs.
  • Use Intuit Checks to print checks.

Integration requirements

• Export report data: Apple Numbers v12.0 or later, or Microsoft Excel 2016 or later (including Microsoft 365).
• Email as PDF: Apple Mail, Microsoft Outlook 2016 or later (including Microsoft 365).
• File conversion:
  • One-way conversion to QuickBooks Online.
  • One-way conversion from QuickBooks Desktop for Windows 2021 and 2023.
  • Conversion to and from QuickBooks for Windows 2024.
  • iPhone features: Requires iOS 12.0 or later.

What if my system doesn't meet the minimum requirements?

If you find your systems don't meet some or all of the minimum requirements to run QuickBooks Desktop, you may be able to upgrade your system.
