Remove duplicate transactions in QuickBooks Desktop

SOLVEDby QuickBooks10Updated December 01, 2022

In QuickBooks Desktop, you can remove duplicate transactions right from your bank feed.  How you delete transactions depends on the mode you're using. Learn more about switching between bank modes.

Remove duplicate transactions in Register mode

In Register mode, you see your register on the top part of the screen. Your downloaded transactions are at the bottom.

If you know that QuickBooks is correct and want to delete the transactions that don't match, match the appropriate transactions anyway. Then delete the entire statement.

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Select Bank Feeds and then Bank Feeds Center.
  3. Find and select the statement from the Items Received From Financial Institution sectionThen select View.
  4. Match the appropriate transactions. Select Done to match them.
  5. Select Yes in the Not Finished Matching screen. You'll return to the Online Banking Center.
  6. Find and select the same statement from the Items Received From Financial Institution section. Then select Delete.

Deleting the statement prevents unwanted transactions from appearing the next time you download a statement. If you don't delete the matched statement, the transactions that weren't matched keep appearing.

Remove duplicate transactions in Side-by-Side mode

If Side-by-Side mode, downloaded transactions are on left side of the screen.

  1. Go to the Banking menu.
  2. Select Bank Feeds and then Bank Feeds Center.
  3. In the Items Reviewed section, select the account with the transactions you want to remove.
  4. Select Items to Delete.
  5. Select the transactions you want to delete.
  6. Select Delete Selected. Then select Yes to confirm.
Tip: If you're already matched your statement, you can select Select all downloaded transactions older than and set the date to the last statement end date. Then select Delete Selected. You may need to switch to Register mode to delete everything.
