Complete a HR workflow task in QuickBooks Online Payroll Premium and Elite

Employees can manage and complete assigned workflow tasks, such as performance reviews or document requests, directly within QuickBooks Online Payroll Premium and Elite or QuickBooks Workforce. This guide explains how to open your tasks, update their status, and understand what each status means for your progress.

  1. Go to HR workflows.
    • QuickBooks Online: Go to All apps A bunch of numbers and letters on a tile wall., then Team, then HR workflows (Take me there).
    • QuickBooks Workforce: Select HR Workflows.
  2. Review all instructions and information provided within the task details.
  3. Fill out all required fields. 
  4. Use comments to leave notes for admins or other assignees; you can edit these after posting if needed.

Note: You don't have to finish everything at once. The system automatically saves your progress as you go.

Understand task statuses

You can use these status labels to communicate your current progress to your manager:

  • Incomplete: This is the default status before you start a task.
  • In Progress: Use this to show you have started the task but are still working on it.
  • Blocked: Use this if outside factors prevent you from finishing the task.
  • Cancel: Use this if a specific task is no longer applicable to you.
  • Complete: Selecting this marks the task as fully finalized and displays a checkmark.
