Working with client custom fields in Intuit Accountant Suite
by Intuit• Updated a day ago
Organize your firm's client list using client custom fields to segment clients by metrics that make sense for your firm — such as industry, geography, or service line. Once you've created a field and assigned clients to it, you can use it to filter your client list and access insights for specific segments.
Prerequisites
Primary and company admins can create and manage client custom fields by default. Other custom roles can be granted permission to access this feature.
Create a client custom field
- Sign in to Intuit Accountant Suite and select
Settings. - Select Custom fields, then select Create new custom field.
- For the field type, select Dropdown. We recommend this type for client segmentation but all types will work.
- Add your dropdown options. Common examples include industries like Manufacturing, Retail, or Restaurants.
- Under Apply to, select Customer. In Intuit Accountant Suite, customers and clients are synced, so this applies the field to your client list.
- Save the field.

Apply a client custom field to clients
After creating a field, you'll assign it to the relevant clients from your client list.
- Sign in to Intuit Accountant Suite and hover over All apps to select Clients. Then choose Client list.
- Use the checkboxes to select one or more clients.
- In the pop-up toolbar, select Apply client custom field.
- From the panel that opens, select the field and value you want to apply.
- Select Confirm to save.
View and filter by client custom fields
- Sign in to Intuit Accountant Suite and hover over All apps to select Clients. Then choose Client list.
- Select
Groups and choose the field you want to filter by. - To display multiple fields at once, select
Customize table.
- In the Customize table panel, select the fields you want to display. Use
Search to find a specific field by name.
- Select Apply when done.
Client custom fields also appear as filters in Client Insights, allowing you to build segment-specific views with relevant data for each client cohort.
