Turn on tips in QuickBooks GoPayment and the QuickBooks mobile app
by Intuit• Updated 2 weeks ago
If your business accepts gratuities, you can turn on Tips so customers have the option to add a tip during in-person transactions, including Tap to Pay on iPhone or Android, card reader, and key-in payments.
A QuickBooks Payments subscription is required to use the Tips feature.
Manage Tips settings
- Open QuickBooks GoPayment or the QuickBooks mobile app.
- Select the Menu
icon. - Go to Settings
. - Select Tips.
- Turn on or off the following settings:

- Accept tips: Turns the tipping feature on or off. When turned on, customers will see a tip screen during checkout.
- Show tips before card is inserted: Controls when the tip screen appears in the checkout flow. When turned off, the tip screen appears after the customer selects a payment method. When turned on, the tip prompt appears earlier in the flow before a payment method is chosen.
- Switch to dollar amount for transactions less than $10: When turned on, transactions under $10 will automatically show dollar-based tip options instead of percentages, since small-dollar percentages can feel unclear to customers.
- Percentage tips or Dollar tips: Choose how tip options are presented to customers. Percentage tips displays preset percentage-based options (such as 15%, 20%, 25%). Dollar tips displays preset fixed-dollar amounts instead.
When paying, customers can always select a preset tip, enter a custom amount, or skip tipping entirely.
