Stefanie Ostertag is Dermaclara’s account manager at San Diego Business Solutions. Ostertag is a long-time fan of QuickBooks Online Advanced, because of the many available automations and the convenience of working in the cloud. When the Dermaclara team was considering implementing Finale Inventory, Ostertag was happy to learn that Finale integrates seamlessly with QuickBooks–it’s a foundation she didn’t want to give up. One of the QuickBooks features that Ostertag and the Finale team quickly found invaluable is the ability to separate Cost of Goods Sold (COGs) into segments and report on each segment individually, linking them to separate accounts. With the distinct COGs and the consolidated transactions between QuickBooks and Finale, the Dermaclara team benefits from a clean, clear, and correct view of data in QuickBooks.


The search for structure, at scale

When skincare startup Dermaclara relaunched in 2020 after rebranding, they found themselves overwhelmed by rapid growth. In a scramble for greener grass, they left Finale Inventory and tried a competitor’s system to fill their need for accounting efficiency. Nothing matched the user-friendly interface and exceptional customer service they’d had with Finale. In early 2023, the team at Dermaclara, including their accounting manager at San Diego Business Solutions, Stefanie Ostertag, decided to give Finale another go.

The Dermaclara team found that Finale had developed into an even more robust solution than it had been before.  Ostertag noted the ability to access COGS (cost of goods sold) data monthly rather than quarterly, and a live inventory asset register that keeps their view of the business accurate in real time. With Finale, Dermaclara not only gained efficiency but grew sales orders. Currently, as they move from in-house fulfillment to using a 3PL (third-party logistics warehouse), Finale is with them every step of the way, rebuilding workflows and solving new pain points as they arise. 

Brandon Galusha continues to help the Dermaclara team by first structuring their operations for efficiency and then applying an accounting perspective to integrate these operations with QuickBooks Online Advanced. From there, Stefanie Ostertag can get a full picture of the financial health of the business. Using Finale and QuickBooks together saves Ostertag  8-10 hours of inventory reporting monthly.
