QuickBooks teams with Compton Girls Club to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs

There’s a phrase we use here at Intuit®: “Diversity and inclusion isn’t just something we do, it’s who we are.” It means that diversity and inclusion is more than something we talk about and practice; it’s a core principle for our company and our employees. It’s the very foundation on which Intuit stands.

Intuit QuickBooks® is proud to work with the Compton Girls Club on the Business G.IRL Incubator, a virtual workshop running throughout January to teach young women in underrepresented communities how to start a small business.

QuickBooks and the Compton Girls Club have one major goal in common: to improve the world for the generations of people to come.

Compton Girls Club plans to change the world

The Compton Girls Club is a girls empowerment group based in Compton, California. Its goal is to connect Compton-area girls with resources in their communities so they can begin to see the value of their own neighborhoods. Through workshops and field trips, these girls are taught important life skills by mentors and speakers of color.

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Compton Girls Club began offering remote workshops. Following the success of those workshops, they created a new distance learning course called the Business G.IRL Incubator to teach young women in underrepresented communities how to start their own businesses.

By the end of January, girls attending the three-week course will have created a business plan, designed a logo, and curated branding assets. Graduates of the course will earn a business grant, professional headshots, and a business toolkit to help them get their new small businesses off the ground.

Through the Business G.IRL Incubator, the Compton Girls Club is on a mission to change the world, one girl at a time.

Over three weeks, attendees will hear from business mentors, entrepreneurs, and advocates of diversity and inclusion—including our very own Charissa Daggs, senior program manager for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Intuit.

How Intuit QuickBooks is championing diversity and inclusion

When Intuit was founded nearly 40 years ago, it was founded on principles of diversity and inclusion. These principles were built into our very first core values and mission statement.

Today, with more than 50 million customers around the globe, we seek to foster a workforce as diverse as the communities we serve. We believe that diversity and inclusion is essential to our company’s mission of powering prosperity around the world.

In partnership with the Compton Girls Club, and by investing in future entrepreneurs in underrepresented communities, we hope to improve the world for the generations to come.
