QuickBooks Live gives business owners confidence and time

You may not know her by name, but it’s possible you’ve heard Lindy Flowers’s voice before. That’s because Flowers, a busy mom, entrepreneur, and wife, is an accomplished voiceover artist

“I'm the person that gets hired to do the voice behind all of the commercials or animation, or any of the corporate narration you might hear,” she explains. “I [give] life to the words behind commercials.”

Flowers’s work is diverse; her repertoire staggering. Past projects include not only commercials and narration but also video games, TV shows, audiobooks, and eLearning. She’s got a wide range, but her particular specialty is health and wellness projects, having spent over ten years in the fitness industry. To these, Flowers brings the perfect combination of serenity and strength, encouraging listeners to power through tough workouts and find inner peace.

Listening to her recordings, it’s hard to imagine Flowers ever feeling overwhelmed. But like any small business owner, she’s faced her share of learning curves and anxieties. At one time, that included bookkeeping — until Flowers found QuickBooks Live and acquired a whole team of bookkeepers ready to lend a hand. Now, Flowers not only has more confidence in her business’s finances, but also time back in her day.

Flowers gives voice to her bookkeeping insecurities

“The idea of running a business felt very intimidating to me,” says Flowers, thinking back on the early days of becoming an entrepreneur. “I didn't have much knowledge of any sort of bookkeeping when I started. I thought it was as simple as just like, [sending] an invoice. They pay me, everything's great.”

But running her own voiceover business turned out to be a bit more complicated than that. “[After] my husband and I got married and we [began] merging our accounts and doing taxes together, I quickly realized that there were some things I was missing.”

Flowers found that when it came to her business’s finances, she needed more information. “It was really hard to acknowledge that I needed some help,” she admits. Fortunately, she found QuickBooks Live.

“I called and someone immediately called me back,” says Flowers. “She was so patient. [She] walked me through, calmed me down, and said, ‘We're gonna get through this,’ and got me the answers that I needed.”

QuickBooks Live boosts skills and confidence

Since Flowers began working with QuickBooks Live, she’s developed new skills and taken command of her bookkeeping.

“All of the experts that I've spoken with have helped me decipher the language of bookkeeping,” she says. “They'll explain to me how to pull the reports, what a P&L is, what accounts receivable means, and just different things that were sort of out of my knowledge base before.”

Flowers acknowledges that this sort of work can be self-taught, but working with experts gives her more time for the parts of her business that matter most to her. Plus, she appreciates the confidence working with an expert allows.

One area Flowers feels more confident in is her taxes. “Just [having] the peace of mind of being able to call someone who is an expert, who knows all the answers, who can guide me through it, is very helpful,” she says. “I feel confident going into tax season because it feels like my books are correct. I have the confidence of knowing that someone has looked this over with me. I know how to pull these reports now. I know how to give our tax preparers what they need. And I know that it's done correctly.”

A busy business owner gets time back

As a mom, wife, and entrepreneur, by far the most important commodity Flowers holds dear is her time. Thus, any tool that puts more free hours back in her day is appreciated.

“Connecting with experts through QuickBooks Live gives me peace of mind and saves me time so that I can do more of what I love,” she says. “Just to have that extra hour makes a huge difference in my day. The time that I have for my son — to get to hang out with him and my husband — is invaluable.”
