April 2017 QBO Features & Improvements

At Intuit®, we’re constantly working to make improvements to improve your understanding of QuickBooks® Online (QBO). Here’s a summary of our most recent enhancements. To see our previous updates, click here.

Two Improvements in QuickBooks Self-Employed

If you haven’t yet discovered the advantages of QuickBooks Self-Employed, then you’re in for a real treat. Check out the benefits of QBSE here, and note these two new features:

  1. QuickBooks Self-Employed Receipt Snap:  Previously, if you wanted to add receipts to QBSE, you had to manually match receipts to expenses; if you paid cash, you had to enter expense information by hand. The new QBSE Receipt Snap eliminates those manual steps. Just take a picture of the receipt and QBSE automatically extracts key data, and then uses that information to match an existing transaction, or to create a new expense. Of course, you should keep receipts for audit purposes. But, thanks to QBSE, managing receipts is now a snap.
  2. Putting a Logo on a QuickBooks Self-Employed Invoice:  QuickBooks is helping you strengthen your company brand. You can now upload their company logo to invoices sent to their clients. Just click on Work Info in the Invoicing tab to upload an image of your logo. Your invoices will look more personalized and professional.

Coming Soon: Navigation Update For All QBO and QBOA Users

Here’s a peek at what’s scheduled to come this spring. Very soon, we’re introducing a number of helpful navigation improvements for QuickBooks Online. Here’s a peek at what’s coming in the next few weeks:

  • Banking will move to the top of the Navigation bar, so you can jump right into Banking without hunting. Bank Rules will also get its own tab.
  • All sales-related activities will be managed on a single “Sales” tab, from finding customers to handling products and services.
  • A new Invoice tab tracks when invoices are viewed, paid and overdue.
  • A single new Invoices tab handles all spending-related tasks, including vendors, with no jumping back and forth.
  • Our new Accounting tab lets users quickly and easily find the Chart of Accounts, Registers and Reconcile functions.
  • The page will be renamed from “Home” to “Dashboard” – just the name will change; all of the data will still be there.

These changes will help you find things faster … and that’s good news for any business!

TSheets Time Tracking Inside QuickBooks Online

Tracking employee time is crucial to any business, and key to reliable payroll, billing and invoicing. However, managing time traditionally required manual processing, often leading to invoice problems and costly payroll errors.

Intuit has solved the time tracking puzzle by integrating TSheets Time Tracking inside QBO. The result? A faster, simpler and more accurate way for your clients to track and manage employee time.

With TSheets now available directly in QBO, managing time has never been easier in QuickBooks. Just click on the “Approve Time” in QuickBooks and say goodbye to manual entry. Then, easily review, manage and approve timesheets. Changes automatically sync with the client’s TSheets account, so the data is always accurate. Mobile time tracking with GPS reports employee location, time and status.

With TSheets/QBO integration, you can:

  • Track billable time for customers, jobs, classes, service items and employees.
  • Directly invoice customer billable times immediately after time approval.
  • Manage jobs and shifts, and inform employees with text, email or push notifications.
  • Eliminate paper time cards and error-prone manual data entry.
  • Bill up to 20 percent more thanks to more accurate time tracking.
  • Gain real insight into job costs and profitability.

Keep track of what’s important! If you and are already a TSheets user, you already have access to this awesome new integration. If not, click here to start a free 14-day trial and sign into QBO, if prompted.

New Filtered Transaction Values

When you filter transactions by customer, vendor or other variables, it would be great to see values for all related transactions without pulling out a calculator.

Now, you can, thanks to powerful new filter capabilities in QBO. When they apply a filter on the Customer or Vendor grids, QBO automatically displays the sum of values for the filtered transactions. If transactions go across multiple pages, totals are shown across all pages. Checkboxes allow users to combine or separate specific transactions, and see the resulting sum.

You can quickly get a sense for the total transactions for any customer or vendor, or how much a donor has given to charity in the tax year. We are also expanding filter capabilities on the Transactions grid, which will now display totals on all applied filters.

As always, stay tuned for monthly updates!
