What’s new in QuickBooks Online: September 2019
Mileage Tracker coming to QuickBooks Online
In a nutshell: Mileage tracking, previously only available for QuickBooks Self-Employed , will soon be available to all versions of QuickBooks Online. We’re rolling it out incrementally, so you might not see the feature right away, but all users should have access in the next several months.
When it comes to tax deductions for mileage expenses, most small businesses and self-employed professionals end up leaving money on the table. It’s so easy to forget to log a trip, lose track of information from third-party trackers, or skip the hassle of manually logging your miles.
How it works: Just download the QuickBooks Online app, enable mileage tracking, and drive. It’s that easy. When you hop in your vehicle, your phone automatically senses that you’re driving and uses GPS tracking to measure the distance. When you arrive, QuickBooks prompts you to categorize the mileage with a simple swipe. All of your trips are stored in one convenient location within the app, and you can see detailed mileage reporting and potential tax savings estimates at any time.
- Create custom travel rules to tell QuickBooks that a trip from the office.
- Estimate the potential deduction for an entire year, or for one individual trip.
Performance enhancements to QuickBooks Online reports
In a nutshell: We’ve made a number of small-but-meaningful improvements to your QuickBooks Online reports experience. We’ve upgraded the performance and navigation to produce fewer errors, faster reviews, and less frustration.
Here’s a quick overview of some of the improvements:
- Optimized loading times and reduced error count for large batches of data.
- View all your transaction data immediately, rather than having to click “load more.”
- Closing the view/edit screen no longer returns you to the beginning of a report.
Multilingual invoicing support
In a nutshell: You can now send customer invoices in one of six languages: English, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese (Brazil), and Chinese (Traditional).
- How it works: From the Customer information pop-up in QuickBooks Online, select the new Language tab and select a default language for that user. From now on, they’ll receive the default invoice information in that language.
That’s all for now, until next time. And, as always, keep your feet on the ground and your books in the cloud.
