INKED by dani: Wearable Art That Lets People Express Themselves

Dani Egna is the CEO and founder of INKED by dani , a company that produces a line of fun, chic and creative temporary tattoos. She launched the business in 2015 after graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in fine arts. It was at USC where she was able to fine-tune her artistic creativity and understand the different styles and trends that would make for a successful business. All of her designs are made in the USA.

“I wanted to create a brand of temporary tattoos that can speak to different ages, passions and style,” said Egna. “My designs are unique, on-trend and a great way for people to express themselves without the commitment of a real tattoo. By drawing inspiration from my paintings and my fine arts background, we’ve created more than just a tattoo – it is fashion-forward, wearable art.”

After being in business for just over two years, INKED by dani has created a buzz and found remarkable success. You can find her products in over 1,000 stores worldwide, including Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Urban Outfitters, American Eagle and Hilton Hotels. However, that growth does not come without pain and sacrifice.

“As a business owner, my mind is never at rest,” said Egna. “There are so many facets to running a business. Not only am I working on the day-to-day logistics to make sure everything is running smoothly, but I constantly have to work to create new opportunities, innovate with new designs, and work to expand and grow.”

She has collaborated with brands such as American Express, Saks Fifth Avenue, Brandy Melville, Nasty Gal and Fifth Harmony to co-design and partner on exclusive tattoos, and has a ton of exciting new partnerships in the works. While she is just scratching the surface in the retail world, the sky is the limit for INKED by dani, as her lifestyle brand connects to so many industries.

“I’ve always been inspired by art and truly believe we have gotten such positive feedback from press and retailers because of our unique point of view on design,” said Egna. “We are fresh and new to the industry, but always stay ahead of trends and know just what our customers want.”

Egna has been using QuickBooks® to help run her business, and it has been a valuable tool for her to continue to grow.

“I started using QuickBooks in 2016 and I couldn’t imagine using anything else,” said Egna. “It’s super simple to use and very user friendly. I can easily access reports that show how my business is doing.”

One of the most important features for Dani is the ability to create an invoice online, send it to her customer, have them click the link to pay and have the transaction processed on a secure system. It makes collecting payments quick and easy, while she can also track overdue invoices.

Egna’s advice for others is to make sure you are passionate and persistent. It is easy to have great ideas, but you have to be willing to go through sleepless nights and put blood, sweat and tears into growing the business.

“It is important to stay educated on your business and the industry so you can always innovate. Plus, it helps to listen to your customers.”

Egna is following her dream to bring her passion for art into the world of beauty and fashion. And, QuickBooks is proud to be backing her every step of the way.
