A comprehensive integration closes critical gaps for omnichannel sellers: Automatic invoice syncing, bidirectional payment updates, and company mapping deliver seamless data flow for wholesale orders.
B2B ecommerce represents a $36 trillion global market, and financial technology is evolving rapidly to unlock its full potential. For merchants who sell through Shopify and use Intuit QuickBooks Online to manage their business, this may sound familiar: B2B orders create administrative bottlenecks. Invoice details, PO numbers, payment terms, and company information all require transfer between platforms. For wholesale sellers processing dozens or hundreds of B2B orders, that's hours of administrative work every week.
QuickBooks has launched comprehensive B2B support for the Shopify Connector, announced as part of Shopify Editions. It's the first native QuickBooks integration to fully automate the complexities of managing both direct to consumer (DTC) and B2B sales from a single connection, transforming what was previously an ecommerce tool into a complete solution for omnichannel merchants who have growing DTC & B2B channels.
QuickBooks now automatically imports B2B Shopify orders as invoices with company details, PO numbers, products, and payment terms already in place. For QuickBooks customers managing retail and wholesale through Shopify, accounting automatically happens in the background.
"Large merchants managing wholesale operations have specific needs that standard integrations don't address," said Joshua Hofmann, vice president of Global Partner Ecosystems at Intuit. "Payment terms, company hierarchies, and PO tracking aren't nice-to-haves for B2B sellers, they're table stakes. This integration ensures QuickBooks remains the financial source of truth for every order, whether it's a $50 retail purchase or a $50,000 wholesale invoice."
"B2B is growing at Shopify, with 80% GMV growth in Q1 this year, and our merchants need their back office and marketing to keep up,” said Jeff Kennedy, Partnerships, Shopify. “With native Shopify B2B support now available in QuickBooks and Mailchimp, B2B orders and company details sync into merchants' books automatically, and merchants can easily create B2B segments to power targeted wholesale outreach. Intuit's investment in these omni-channel integrations helps our merchants scale wholesale with confidence."
B2B ecommerce at scale
Modern B2B transactions require precision: invoice data flowing from Shopify into QuickBooks, payments matched to the right invoices, and clear separation between B2B and DTC orders to understand how your channels are growing.
The requirements are specific. Payment terms on B2B orders mean invoices and payments arrive as separate instances that need reconciliation. Company structures mean you need to invoice the business entity, not the individual who placed the order. PO numbers need to be tracked for customer reference. Get these details right, and the opportunities to scale become apparent.
With Shopify's recent expansion of native B2B features to merchants on every plan, more businesses now have access to wholesale capabilities. This QuickBooks integration launch for Shopify merchants is part of a broader Intuit commitment to B2B customers: QuickBooks also released new B2B invoicing features this month, and Mailchimp launched automatic B2B audience tagging for the Shopify integration. Together, these launches signal Intuit's focus on serving the full operational picture for omnichannel merchants.
Built for how B2B accounting actually works
With native B2B support, QuickBooks customers using the Shopify Connector can:
- Automatically import B2B orders as invoices with company details, PO numbers, products, and payment terms in place.
- Sync invoice payment status bidirectionally—when an invoice is marked paid in QuickBooks, Shopify updates automatically, even if payment was made outside Shopify.
- Map Shopify B2B companies to QuickBooks customers correctly, ensuring invoices are attributed to the business entity rather than individual buyers.
- Segment customers by type (B2B vs. DTC) to run channel-specific reports and compare profitability.
- Track B2B-specific data points like payment terms and services to maintain accurate financial records and track cashflow.
The integration operates the way B2B accounting actually works: Invoices sync when orders are placed, payments update bidirectionally, and company structures stay intact. No manual data entry. No reconciliation spreadsheets. No guessing which payment belongs to which invoice.
For merchants whose ecommerce, business and financial management, and marketing all live on the Intuit platform, this is another step toward a genuinely integrated back office. Sales, marketing, and accounting finally work from the same source of truth.
"Managing B2B and DTC shouldn't mean managing two different accounting workflows," Hofmann added. "For QuickBooks customers running wholesale alongside DTC this removes the friction that's been costing them time and accuracy."
