To narrow down the exact solution, are you seeing an error message that your beginning balance is off before you even start, or are you at the final screen where the ending difference doesn't match $0.00?

If your beginning balance is incorrect or past transactions were altered, you can check the Reconcile Discrepancy Report in QuickBooks. This report allows you to identify changes made after a previous reconciliation and fix those transactions.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to All apps > Accounting, then select Reconcile.
  2. Choose your bank or credit card account from the dropdown.
  3. Find the alert: "Your account isn't ready to reconcile yet. Your beginning balance is off by...", then click We can help you fix it.

If any transactions were deleted or voided, check your Audit log and re-enter them with their original details to match your historical bank records.

Here’s how:

  1. Navigate to the Gear icon > Tools, then select Audit Log.
  2. Filter by the account and the period since your last completed reconciliation.
  3. Review for any deleted or voided transactions.
  4. Once done, go to All apps > Accounting, then select Chart of Accounts.
  5. Find your bank and click View register.
  6. Locate the re-entered transaction and click the checkmark column repeatedly until it displays an R (Reconciled), then click Save.

Return to the reconciliation page, and your total discrepancy should now be $0.00. This confirms your beginning balance matches your bank statement, allowing you to proceed with your reconciliation without any error.
