My employee used Uber to go meet a customer.  How do I enter that in QB and what type of expense is it?

Enter it the same way you paid for it.  I expect it's transportation or something similar.  Likely same as a taxi or car rental.

Hello there, @tnichols914.

@197905 is correct! Allow me to share additional information on how you can record expenses in QuickBooks.

There are two ways to record your expenses in QuickBooks Desktop:

  • Recording and Tracking Expenses as Items

  • Recording and Tracking Expenses as Expenses

If you opt out to record your Uber fare under the Expenses tab, it will be recorded directly to your chart of accounts. However, if you record Uber fare under Items tab, you'll be able to generate a valuable report that will show costs, sales, and profit data for a specific item or customer:job.

On the other hand, I'd also recommend consulting with your accountant in determining the specific account from the chart of accounts to use in recording your Uber expenses.

Stay in touch with us here in the Community if you have other questions about recording your expenses. I'm always here to help.

The OP asked about QB Desktop, not QB Online.
