job costing inventory

In our business we purchase some things in bulk for stock/inventory and use them on construction jobs that we do.  Is there a way to apply those inventory materials to the job so it will show up in our job profitability report?  ex: We purchased bulk thermostats in 2019 and used 3 on a recent job and I would like to be able to apply the costs of those thermostats to this job.

Thank you

Hello @Adyn,

When purchasing an item you'll have to select a billable customer or job so it'll show up on your Job Profitability report. Let's say, you purchase a bulk of thermostats and enter it as an expense, check, or bill, you'll have to select the correct job under the Customer:Job column.

Since all items have been purchased way back 2019, you can consider deleting and recreating the transaction to post the costs correctly. But I'd still recommend contacting your accountant for additional guidance and professional advice.

In addition, here's an article you can read to learn more about the job costing and its related functions: Tracking job costs in QuickBooks Desktop.

Lastly, I've got you this helpful article for ideas about other utilization you can do with your report: Understand reports in QuickBooks.

If there's anything else that I can help you with, let me know in the comments. I'll be here to lend a hand.
