Portable Files

I appreciate you taking the time to post your concern here, @mikecronan. I'll gladly share some insights about deleting a portable company file and walk you through the process to restore your original file so you can get back to working order.

Before doing so, please note that when creating a portable file, avoid using the same name as the regular company file. If you save them in the same folder, the portable file will overwrite the regular one. 

Deleting a portable file is not possible in QuickBooks Desktop. If you want to access the original company file but is unable to locate it, we have an option to restore it. I'll guide you on how:

1. Go to the File menu in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), and select Open or Restore Company.
2. Select Open a company file, then Next.
3. Browse the location of the company file. For example: if your company file is mapped to drive E, look for Company Files Name (E:) in the list.
4. Click the company file (with file extension .qbw) from the list and select Open.
5. If prompted, enter your username and password.
