Did a full/clean removal and installed QuickBooks Database Server Manager on the server that hosts the shared company files.
Only one folder is selected in the "Scan Folders" section. When I click "Start Scan", it runs up to Network Diagnostics then says "QBCFMonitorService not running on this computer" but it VERY MUCH IS RUNNING. Both the "Database Server" and "Monitored Drives" tabs show "...Status: RUNNING"
I tried spamming refresh on the services list while running the "start scan" and saw the Diagnostic STOP the service (QBCFMonitorService), then post "QBCFMonitorService not running on this computer", then it starts the service again but says "Network Diagnostics: Failed. Resolve errors and Retry!!"
Main issue is users getting H202 when trying to switch to multi-user mode. Tried all the solutions in "How to fix H202" article but none helped. Users can ping and access the server and shared folder. They can create files and modify etc.
Really confused on what the network diagnostic is doing...Unsure if there's a different log file I can check somewhere or something?
I'm here to route you in the right direction for support to help you resolve the issue with Database Server Manager that shows as not running, @Tonst3r.
I appreciate your effort in trying all the solutions to your issue. Since you're still having the same issue, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support as our potential solution. Thus, they have the tools to guide and give you the necessary information.
Here's how:

Know that you can always get back to me if you have any other questions with QuickBooks Desktop. I got you covered. Have a great day!
Thanks, yeah that's our next step but we're coordinating that with the person listed as "owner" so they can be on the call, and it'll take a bit. Figured this was worth asking in the meantime in case anyone else here is aware of the issue.
Install the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 Enterprise. Did you encounter the same problem?
I didn't know the networked version can have a trial, but the amount of time to fully remove everything and re-configure it for the trial, then to re-do everything back to the version we paid for is rough. We bill this client for I.T. time so was hoping to minimize the process if there was a known fix or something. At that point, we'd just call support though.
Ty anyway
Did you ever get this resolved? I am having the same issues.
Did you ever get this resolved I am seeing the same issue.
Wondering the same thing - did your issue get resolved? We also use Desktop Enterprise suite, have the files on a separate computer that does not have a daily user, and other users all access from their desktops.
This is an ongoing issue with us. We seem to get it resolved eventually through no actual changes, other than users having to constantly double check the "multi-user access" checkbox in the open dialog, or constant rebooting of everything. Then it hums along fine for months and then it goes haywire and inconsistent again, oftentimes seemingly in conjunction with big updates.
It take an inordinate amount of time and is highly annoying to the users and myself as the IT support.
Any new insights are greatly appreciated.
They never fixed the error on DB Manager, but they had us login and download the newest QB product directly on each computer and somehow that ended up resolving the multi-user problems.
Initially we were downloading it on a server and accessing/running the install from the individual workstations (like any other program in the history of ever) but QB support claimed we had to sign-in to the camps/portal on each user's workstation, get a fresh download, and install using that.
For w/e reason it did ultimately fix the multi-user mode. Idk if they pushed a new version between the last time we tried it or what, but by this point I was long past my witts'-end and just took whatever worked to make the client happy.
I understand your concerns, @GroverDG and @Tonst3r, as this will impact the team's workflow. Given the importance of multi-user access, any issues that arise should be addressed as soon as possible. Let’s collaborate to troubleshoot this and ensure an uninterrupted workflow.
The error QBCFMonitorService not running occurs when the firewall prevents your file from running or when the file has become damaged. Also, using an outdated QuickBooks Database Server Manager can cause this error. Therefore, our phone support team requires you to download the latest version to ensure that the QuickBooks Database Server Manager is up to date.
If your Windows firewall is preventing the QBCFMonitorService.exe file from functioning properly, we can configure your firewall settings to resolve the problem.
To begin with, let's download and install QuickBooks Tools Hub:
To proceed with Step 2 and Step 3, kindly follow the step-by-step guidance in this article: Set up firewall and security settings for QuickBooks Desktop.
If the issue persists, let's connect with our Live Support Team to troubleshoot the problem in real time. They have the tools and resources needed to identify the causes and provide immediate solutions.
Moreover, if you're opening a company file hosted on Fedora Linux or Citrix server and get the error message, here's an article you can refer to for a solution: Error H202: when hosting a company file on a non-Windows Server.
By collaborating and systematically going through the necessary steps, we can identify the root cause and implement effective solutions to resolve the problems. Always remember that the Community is always available for any problems you may encounter. Have a productive day.
Thanks but all of that has been verified when we were on the call with support and the SHORT version is that it wasn't relevant to our issue. (not firewall related, file is running and working, just the server manager which is the newest version isn't reading it properly)
Honestly I can't troubleshoot it further without billing the client for the time, and since it's currently working despite the error, no one wants to touch it.
If other users want to continue on here then by all means, but just wanted to post this as to why I won't be responding further since I made the topic.
Sorry, gl all.
Thank you for your response and suggestions. When we upgraded from 2023 to 2024, I left QB 2023 on the hosting computer for a bit while we ensured there weren't issues with 2024. Then a few days later, I uninstalled 2023. I notice now, however, that remnants of 2023 are riddled throughout the computer - users, DB services, etc. I have disabled and/or deleted those as applicable.
Although my firewalls already had the QB directory set as an exclusion, I added a few more exclusions as well.
Today things have operated correctly. Will give it a few more days to see what happens, but regardless, next time I am there (I work remotely out of town), I will uninstall 2024 from all computers, ensure 2023 was also fully uninstalled from all computers, reboot numerous times, see if any remnants are left that need to be removed, reboot numerous more times, and then do a fresh install of 2024 ensuring the steps to configure multi-user access for current versions meticulously, as opposed to assuming they've remained the same over the years. Additionally, I will ensure all of your suggestions have been followed.
If I have any issues after that, I will definitely contact tech support and try and wrangle my way to someone who has the expertise needed.
Thank you so much for your reply. While that option isn't ideal, I was about to strip all installs off and start fresh regardless, so knowing that extra twist about downloading from Camps is good if it will help ensure clean correct up-to-date installs.
And I agree - once it's working, back away slowly and tell everyone not to sneeze nor look sideways at it under any circumstances....
