E trade bug "Security Code (leave blank ..)" but then it says "this field is required" anyways when left blank

You may have connected to the incorrect account provider, @stxvc. To resolve this, make sure to connect to the provider listed as E*TRADE by Morgan Stanley in QuickBooks Online, instead of E*TRADE from Morgan Stanley (Bank Accounts).

Please follow these steps to update the connection:

  1. Go to My Apps and select Bank transactions under the Accounting tab.
  2. Click on Link Account.
  3. Search for "E*TRADE by Morgan Stanley" and select it from the list.
  4. Enter your credentials for E*TRADE by Morgan Stanley and follow the prompts to complete the connection process.

Once you have successfully connected to the correct provider, your investment account should appear within your QuickBooks Online account.

Thanks for the update, @stxvc. Let's troubleshoot the security code error you've encountered while connecting your account in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before we begin, please note that even if you might be able to leave that field blank, your bank’s security protocol will determine whether it’s allowed. In that case, you'll want to enter the security code to proceed with the process.

If the same error occurs, one possible reason you encounter such an error could be that your browser has accumulated too many cached files. QuickBooks relies on the browser's cache to function efficiently, so clearing any outdated files can help fix the aforementioned matter and improve the overall system performance.

Click any of the links below for detailed step-by-step instructions tailored to different browsers:

If this issue continues, I recommend clicking the browser's Refresh icon (please see the screenshot below) or using other supported browsers.

There is no security code for this account.. It's just a bug between qbo and the eTrade connection. Who ever set it up, did it incorrectly.

To resolve this issue, we'll need to contact our support to fix the configuration problem with E*Trade, Stxvc.

E trade bug "Security Code (leave blank ..)" but then it says "this field is required" anyways when left blank

I am having the same issue. This is a QBO validation bug on the sign-in form of the connector: "E*TRADE by Morgan Stanley". (https://us.etrade.com/)

Context:

1. The platform allows users to login with user + pass OR user + pass + security code (optional)

2. The QBO connector should be able to handle both types of sign-in methods

3. When inputing data: User + Pass, the third field "Security Code" says: "please leave BLANK if not enrolled in VIP Access security", after leaving blank (as user is not enrolled), when clicking submit the validation of the form marks the security code as a required field, but the field it should not be required as this is an optional security measure intended for some (not all of E*TRADE users)

4. This QBO Bug, prevents some users of E*TRADE by Morgan Stanley of logging in correctly, as the form doesnt allow to attempt the connection if it not passes the (erroneous) validation, in this case the form expects data in the 3 fields when it should only expect data in user + password

I've patiently explained this to the support team, and followed all the possible troubleshooting steps indicated in this page and suggested by the back end team.

I request this to be escalated to a dev team so they can fix the bug on the validation form.
