Question

Large QBKS file

We use QBKS enterprise, hosted with Right Networks.  Our file is huge and I think it may be causing the product to load slowly and process transactions slowly.  I know condensing is not recommended, starting a new file might be but the thought of doing that is a bit overwhelming.  Looking for suggestions or advice from anyone with a similar situation.

We value performance seriously, @Amleecpa. I'm here to assist you to get past this so you can get back to business as soon as possible.

QuickBooks is operating more slowly than usual for a number of reasons. Here are a few potential causes:

  • QuickBooks is not up to date.
  • Your device/computer doesn't meet the minimum system requirements.
  • Missing or damaged QBWUSER.INI file.
  • The hard drive is corrupted.
  • The program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation is damaged.
  • The Windows operating system is damaged.

Both your server and workstations need to be optimized. This reduces QuickBooks Desktop performance issues. See this guide for the detailed steps: Resolve QuickBooks Desktop performance issues: Manage your computers.

If the issue continues, I recommend going through these additional fixes. It's likely that your company file is causing the problem. Here's the module you can browse: Resolve QuickBooks Desktop performance issues: Manage your data file.

Feel free to comment back if you need extra help regarding this matter or QuickBooks as a whole. We'll make sure to respond as soon as we can. Keep safe!

We are hosted with Right Networks so QBKS file is kept up to date and our computer systems are current.

I am trying to verify the file but having issues with that as well.  I will reach out to Right Networks to see if they have any suggestions.

Who said condensing is not recommended? How big is your file size?

QBKS support has told me condensing is not recommended.  I have done it in the past, have been using QBKS since it came out in the 90's.

You may have a company file with more than 3 years of data or more than 1 GB in size causing sluggish performance. You should consider reducing the file size to increase responsiveness and speed up performance. If the condensing tool doesn't solve the problem, you can purchase a third-party service to condense your file. You can expect a size reduction of 40-65%. Contact me in private for details
