MOVE QB 2016 PRO TO A NEW COMPUTER

got a new windows 11 computer.  I am trying to move my QB 2016 Pro to the new computer.  I use the move tool in utilities.  When I plug the flash drive into the new computer and enter the PW I created for the move I get an error "something went wrong, try again later".  It never works.

MOVE QB 2016 PRO TO A NEW COMPUTER

The migration tool is not reliable.

1. Open the company file on the old machine and create a backup file

2. Install QB program on the new machine

3. Run QB on the new machine and restore the backup file

MOVE QB 2016 PRO TO A NEW COMPUTER

Hey there, @PALMBAYINS

Thanks for stopping by the Community with your question about moving to a new computer with your account.

The best route would be to do the following steps:

  1. Make a copy of the file and add it to the flash drive.
  2. Install QuickBooks Desktop on the new computer and plug in the flash drive.
  3. Move the file off the flash drive locally.
  4. Then open the company file in QuickBooks Desktop from the local place you moved it to.

This should do the trick! If you run into any more trouble, don't hesitate to ask. Have a great day!
