QuickBooks Desktop 2021 startup issue

Hi - we're having an odd one here.

QB Desktop 2021 - several company files. Every now and again it gets in this weird mode where we open a file and it will get to the password login, we log in, it will display the home screen for a second maybe or not even that, and then crash, QB completely quits out. We've discovered a workaround which is to cancel opening the one of our files, open a sample business file that we downloaded when this problem started, and then close it. Then we can open our files as normal, until the problem repeats itself. My thinking is that there is a temporary file that is not being cleared properly, and that being able to open and close the sample file clears that file, and then we're ready to go again. Any thoughts?

Also sc*mmers that troll this board - I'm on to you - don't call me unless you want me to waste your time with a sandbox VM and some serious improv tech weirdness.

QuickBooks Desktop 2021 startup issue

I've got solutions to fix issues that cause QuickBooks Desktop to crash, bitboyenterprises.

There are possible reasons why the program crashes:

  • Your company name may be too long
  • You may have a damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
  • You may have corruption on your hard drive
  • Your program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation may be damaged
  • You may have a damaged Windows operating system

To fix the issue, let's download and install the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Here's how:

  1. Close QuickBooks.
  2. We recommend you download the most recent version (1.4.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it (like your Downloads folder or your Windows desktop). Note: If you've already installed Tool Hub before, you can find out which version you have. Select the Home tab. The version will be displayed on the bottom right or you can select About to view the version.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. When the install finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
