Same customer with multiple projects at different locations at the same time, project 1 at address A , and project 2 at address B. How you do this when project get address from the customer and not from project itself? If you change address to reflect project 1 location, then all the transactions on project 2 shows the address of project 1

That has been a long standing issue with QB, the only thing you can do is make a customer for each location.  Change the name slightly, I add a period, middle initial, etc

Thank you Rustler,

That doesn't"t work for me, I am a subcontractor and work with the same contractors for many years in many projects, and to find any records on the future will be a mess, this is a simple need, I think the solution should just to add an address field on the project itself, that have to come from developer itself, hope they listen to the users.

Hi, dajja.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out here in the Community.

As Rustler mentioned, applying the same customer to different addresses and projects would require slightly altering their name. Since so many of these changes would need to be made in your situation, I'll do my part and pass your feedback along to the Product Development Team.

As QuickBooks evolves, we strive to include great user suggestions like yours in product updates. You can find out more about these types of updates by viewing our Blog: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/.

I wish you continued success. Please feel free to reach out to me here if you have any other questions.

Is there a way to do this yet?  I have two companies in QBO that do work for the same customer at hundreds of locations throughout the year and need to have the address associated with each project as opposed to just my customer.

I can share some information about creating a project in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @KIRSTEN2020.

The feature to set multiple addresses to a single customer is currently unavailable in QBO. That would be a great addition to the current features that we have, so I'll take note of it.

I also invite you to visit the Firm of the Future site. It contains resources and tips to help easily use QuickBooks.

Let me know if there's anything that I can further assist with your customer transactions. I'm always here if you need more help. Have a wonderful day!

Nope. This is what I am doing, two different type of customers.

Customer 1: It is a nationwide company with shopping centers, invoices go by shopping centers, since I do around 4 to 5 jobs at each center every month, I create a customer for each shopping center, with a billing address and a site address, they are always the same, any detail for specific tenant/unit/job goes on the project name.

Customer 2: It is a Bank with different branches, I don't do as many jobs as the shopping center, and billings goes only to the headquarter under one account, not by branches, the job name have the details as Branch name or location / Job Description, here since the site address change very often I add the address to the notes on the project , then I copy and paste it to each transactions.

None of the two options is perfect, but a least I found a work around for me, hope this give you ideas on how to make it work for you. Not sure if an address by job will be ever implemented.

Has there been any resolution on this issue? We are a contractor and were told QBO has come leaps and bounds, and that we should opt for qbo over the desktop version for contractors.  The fact that qbo won’t even let me use two projects, with different addresses, under one customer is concerning.  I’m really hoping a “fix” has been created. Any ideas?

Being able to use projects with different addresses under one customer has been forwarded already to your Product Team, 9130349659890896.

Since we don't hear an update on this feature, you can visit these links to keep you in the loop with what's new and coming:

For now, you can use the current feature of using projects in QuickBooks Online.

Don't hesitate to post again if you need anything else. I'll be around to help you with any QuickBooks issues you may be having.

This issue really needs to be put near the TOP of the list.

As a construction subcontractor, our entire business is set up to serve the same clients at different projects.  Repeat business is exactly what we are after.  For now I am setting up each project location to be a sub-customer of the main customer but really this shouldn't be a hard fix.

Now when my guys are using T-Sheets, we have to set up multiple customers that really are the same customer.  This is really going to screw with our billable hours.

Adding project address shouldn't be this hard.

We want to use a time tracking app with GPS features, but there's no address in the project, so how can this work? Quickbooks only does costing for time if you use Projects, but projects don't link with Tsheets properly for address tracking. Quickbooks is pushing Tsheets, but doesn't seem to have put any thought into how this actually works.

Hello there, @DynamiteBooks.

I can see the benefit of being able to use a time tracking app with GPS features in QuickBooks Online (QBO). That's why I'm here to share further details about this.

Currently, you may find a third-party application that can integrate addresses to your projects in QBO while the said feature isn't yet available. This way, you're able to link your projects with TSheets and track addresses accordingly. Let me guide you how.

You can either visit our App Center through the website or directly within QuickBooks to find integrated apps. To search for apps through QuickBooks, here's how:

  1. Go to the Apps menu.
  2. Select the Find Apps tab.
  3. Use the search bar to find apps or the Browse category drop-down button.

I've attached a screenshot below for your reference.

In the meantime, I'm adding this article to further guide you in managing the growth of your business through QBO: QuickBooks Help Articles. It includes topics about data security, banking, and expenses, to name a few. You can click the + More topics button to view other selections.

I agree wholeheartedly.  How difficult is this "fix" and why has a company like QB not yet managed to make it happen?  We are new to QB in the last two months and so far my experience is NOT what they sold me on.  Until some of these issues are corrected, I cannot recommend QBO for construction firms or subcontractors.  I wish Id have stuck with my gut and purchased the QB Desktop for Contractors.  It's too bad, because the issues I've identified really should not be difficult to correct.  I don't want to use a third party app.  I'm already using QB, QB Payroll, and Tsheets.  Three is enough.

Agreed.  I'm super frustrated I was talked into QBO when my gut was telling me QB Desktop for contractors.  Still don't think this issue with tsheets would be fixed, but maybe.  I'm frustrated with the lack of thought that has gone into the product (plenty of thought has gone into the sales of such product, I wish the developing team was an equal focus.)

I completely agree with everyone.  This affects so many things.  For example purchase orders shipping address cannot be the project address it is the bill to address.  I have zero clue how QuickBooks development team would think that this is acceptable.

While it would be great to have a place to put the location of a project in QBO, if you are using Quickbooks Time, formally known as Tsheets that is integrated with QBO you can enter the Location address in QBT. We also use QBO for contracting work and what we have done was use 1 of the 3 custom fields and titled it LOCATION and we input the address there, this allows us to have one customer with multiple addresses and project locations that we work on. Hope this helps some of you.

2 hours into trying to migrate from desktop to online for 2022 and here's the nail in the coffin. Complete show stopper. Maybe I'll switch in 2023.

For the love of God, Quickbooks Online, you've known about this issue over 3 years. Please find a way to marry new addresses with each project under a client. I cannot believe you have not addressed this yet.

Hi, @ArtisanDesignSally.

I appreciate you joining this conversation. Allow me to chime in and help make sure this is taken care of for you.

I can see how having this option would be helpful for you and your business. While this isn't available yet, I highly recommend sending feedback to our product developers. They're always looking for ideas from users to consider on how to improve QuickBooks.

Here's how to submit feedback:

  1. In QuickBooks Online (QBO), select the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then select Next to submit feedback.

In case you need it, I'll add these articles that tackle managing Projects in QBO for more information:

Hi,

We have been a QBO customer for nearly 10 years. Have used T-sheets for 6 years.

To not have an address field available for a Project (which is essentially a work order for a parent customer) is completely short sighted and like in an earlier post really makes one wonder who is developing for Intuit on this.

It has just been one bug or missing feature after another trying to confirm to this product.  We have been using sub-customers all this time and our customer database has nearly 5000 entries in it. Just creating a new customer can take 30 seconds some time and QBO is very sluggish and slow.  Starting to entertain a new platform that has the integrations and features demanded by today's business climate.

Telling your customers, great idea! Please submit a feature request link here... IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.

I cannot agree more.  I am seriously contemplating jumping ship to another cloud accounting system, because QBO seems focused on creating features that they can monetize or add subscription fees to rather that make the core features useful to a business.  No Project Address?  Really!!!!?  Come on QBO what is the deal?  Sales tax cannot even apply accurately if the project is in a different county let alone state.  How many times does the wrong shipto address or reference go on our template forms to a customer that causes delays in us getting our orders, invoices and purchases processed.  This has gone on far to long.  You want me to consider the bells and whistles you offer at added price?  Then get the nuts and bolts of the system working good first.  You guys were the best by a large margin 10 years back.  That margin is shrinking as you lose focus.  Get the your focus back on small business operations over small business monetization and you can be the leader you have been and still should be.  Quit making us to work arounds for things that "Free Apps" can do.

Anyone find a solution on this yet? I have a project but I need to bill portion of it to one customer and the other to another customer.

Hi Carrie43,

I understand how helpful it would be for you if there's an option to share 1 project to two customers and take payments from each of them. While we are unable to do this setup in QBO, I encourage you to send feedback to our engineers. This way, they can consider creating such an option in future updates.

  1. Go to Help and choose Feedback.
  2. Enter a summary of your feedback.
  3. Click Next.

If you have other questions about projects, feel free to go back to this thread. Take care and have a good one!

It is disrespectful to us for a QB team member to tell us to send a feedback to an issue reported 4 years ago.
