I upgraded to QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus in March 2022 as I did not like the Online version at all. My initial Subscription Charge due March 2023, per QB was $349.99 in April 22. Now QB is stating that the Annual Subscription Charge is $549.00. That is almost a 57% increase before my first renewal.
Has anyone else had this happen? QB's response is unacceptable as there explanation is that they have done updates to make QB better for me. If I increased my customers price 57%, I wouldn't be in business anymore!
Hi, @mtallon. I appreciate you for sharing your experiences and thoughts about the pricing update of QuickBooks Desktop.
I understand how the price change may affect your business's operation with QuickBooks. These aren't the experiences and feelings we want you to have. However, please know that due to the additional features and product advancements, price increases are necessary to provide the services and support that will enable you to do your accounting activities more efficiently than before.

I appreciate you for coming back to the thread and adding extra clarification about your concern, mtallon. Also, please know that we recognize your feedback and will relay it to the concerned team. I'll be sharing details on how your data works in QuickBooks Desktop after it ends, then ensure you can manage your company file accurately.
At the end of your current subscription period or if you don't pay your annual subscription, you’ll only have access to your data for 14 days after your subscription ends. You’ll still have your company file but you'll need a subscription to open and view your data.
Additionally, you can export reports and lists into individual Excel files which are in a zip file and you can print your reports for easy access.

Again, I understand Price Increases BUT almost 57% is excessive. If it were 5-15%, I would be annoyed but not willing to waste my time contacting Intuit. But I don't know of any other business that would do this. It is absolutely Price Gouging. I'm not sure if it is Intuit's intention to force their customer base to switch to the Online Version or that they feel that their customers only option is to pay, but I think its unconscionable.
I did open a case and have asked that it be escalated so that I may speak with someone.
You must pay the renewal price or QB will lock you out when the license expires. If you don't intend to pay for it, consider converting your data to QB Online or another cloud-based accounting app. You can purchase a 3rd party service to convert your data.
I don't understand how they can lock a file after I paid for the software and if I don't want to upgrade then fine I don't expect any changes. I can't below this is allowed in any form or function. If I stop paying my Microsoft fee for yearly support my files can be read by other software.
It's just holding us hostage for additional money. I upgraded from Pro 2019 to 2022 since I always went by the three year process of upgrading but this is total BS. Why do others that have older versions have until May 31st?
I also think it was strange to see so many different items on how this change was going to be handled and seeing that one time my charge was going to $350.00 and now $550.00 is nuts.
I wanted to know if the 2019 version will also lock a file? I still trying to understand when my QuickBooks will lock and I will not be able to see my data. My so called subscription ended on March 12th and it is past 14 days but now the system doesn't count down before something else will happen.
I understand where you're coming from, @jfanschutz. Let me clarify things for you today.
First, QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2020 versions are the only product affected by service discontinuation after May 31, 2023. Add-on services will be discontinued after that date. For more information about the service discontinuation, you can open this article: QuickBooks Desktop 2020 service discontinuation policy.
If your QBDT 2019 is a software-only form (one-time purchase), then it's fully functional indefinitely.
With QBDT 2023 R3 or newer (subscription base), you have view-only access for one year once your subscription ends. After that, the system locks your data out. You have to renew your subscription if you need to extend your access. You can check out this link for additional reference: Renew your subscription or use view-only mode in QuickBooks Desktop 2023.
If you want greater efficiency and real-time business insights, you can consider switching to QuickBooks Online.
